The abstract signature design I carve into my pieces is something I’ve been drawing since childhood and developing all my life. I begin carving with a loose plan in mind but mostly make decisions as I go, and see how things unfold. Both the process of making and the final result are, for me, the perfect balance between organic and structured.

Work happens all over my Philadelphia home. My ceramic studio is in the basement, where I create pieces on the wheel using stoneware clay. The long hours of hand carving and, after a bisque fire back in the basement, painting glazes are done in the comfort of my living room with something stupid on TV in the background. After a final firing I take everything up to my photography studio where they live until they are sold.

Taking photos is a the boring part of the job so I had some fun and put together some family portraits of different color collections in addition to the standard product shots. And I always make sure to take plenty of lager-than-life detail images.
