I am a Northern California artist and I create fine art portraits which demonstrate the range and versatility of tape, an everyday material. I was first attracted to masking tape 17 years ago because of its accessible and malleable nature. The portraits are constructed of thousands of hand-cut tape elements carefully placed to give the impression of a continuous tone on first viewing but create a surface of complex texture upon closer inspection. Each portrait is constructed on a wood panel and coated in resin, taking a minimum of 150 hours and roughly 1 mile of tape to complete. After making my self-portrait in black and white tape, I challenged myself to create Bill Murray because he is inspired by the way he lives his life. I further explored the possibilities of the medium by bringing in color.

I created the contemporary art form known as Tapigami, which is the art of applying imagination to tape.
