I Made Olympic Athletes Out Of Layered Paper

Hi, I’m Raya and I’m a paper artist based in Barcelona.

Previously I’ve shared my paper foods and now I designed a series of Paper Athlete sculptures.

The concept of this design was to express movement using paper. The added texture, light and volume that the serial planes technique provides reinforces the fluidity of the pieces.

All the sculptures are entirely hand cut and assembled, some of the figures have around 150 pieces and up to 500 separators. The project required many, many hours of work, but the end result was very satisfying for me.

Pictures below were taken by photographer Leo García Mendez.

these are amazing.. but how durable are these? These are paper after all and I see you're holding some of them up. You should sell these. (And I hope youre recycling if you're not selling any because youre using up so much paper, aside from the pieces taken off to shape them, if youre just throwing these away after taking these photos XD)

Hi Jerie :) They are art pieces and will not be thrown away. They are small sculptures so the amount of paper is not so big, and I have carefully chosen the most eco-friendly paper I could use. Thanks for the comment :)
