I Inspire People To Create The World They Wish To See Through My Paintings

I love painting because of the subconscious symbolism and infinite possibilities that it represents. I do not wish to provide fragmental answers or an agenda through my work; rather, I aim to disarm through my art so the viewer feels safe in boldly exploring the unknown, and thus receive the spark of faith.

My process is very symbolic of my worldview. I work in multiple layers of charcoal, ink, spray paint, and acrylic, and finally finish the painting in oil to give a juicy, 3d like quality. I often paint the primary subject realistically, while leaving the “supporting characters” in the painting intentionally undone to symbolize the sum of parts becoming a whole, and the power of transformation.

I feel that art can and should be redemptive, and the art we choose to surround ourselves with and allow into our hearts can in turn transform our circumstances. If an artist is able to create a new world from a canvas, why should we not be able to do the same with the canvas of our lives?

I believe that art can and should be redemptive. The idea for this painting struck me like a bolt of lightning. I tried to write the meaning of it, but felt that my words and personal explanation would only detract from the meaning to the individual viewing it. For that reason, this quote will suffice: ‘Mountains are only a problem when they are bigger than you. You should develop yourself so much that you become bigger than the mountains you face.’ ― Idowu Koyenikan

“When You Find Yourself Lost” 22×28″ mixed media oil on canvas

This was based on a dream that i had. There was a city on the edge of a cliff, and down below, there was a junk yard. People were driving through it and were searching for something lost. Despite the way it might sound, the dream was not bleak; as the night drew on, there was a sense of hope and urgency, and they knew every moment spent searching brought them closer to what they were looking for.
