I Hike To Abandoned Places To Photograph Them At Night With My Own Light (10 New Pics)
I've been exploring abandoned places at night for a few years, and for 2 years, I am working on a photo project to enlighten them in my own way with many colors.
The lighting gear is important for those images. Everything is captured on location, and the post-processing is mostly enhancing colors. I experimented a lot with light painting, so I can create an image with only one flashlight if I don’t have anything else. But most of the time, I carry a few speedlights in my bag. How many I bring depends on the size of the location, how long I plan to be there, my intuition from the research I did before, among other factors. I want to avoid carrying gear that I won’t use, but on the other hand, if I brought 8 flashes and 2 are enough for a photo, it is fine.
I focus on quality before quantity, trying to make something unique, so I do not often come back with more than one or two photos. And sometimes there is no framing catching my eyes so I come back with nothing interesting.

I liked them but I feel like maybe if they didn't have people in them it would give more mystery. I really like the idea of lighting abandoned places with different colored lights. It's a really good idea and gives it a whole new look. But some pictures would look better without any people in them...but of course,that's only my opinion.

Sometimes it can't be helped. When I explore I usually have one of my daughters with me(13 and 18yrs old). Sometimes when I take a pics of us exploring abandoned places one of my kids would accidentally photobomb my pic or someone else would show up exploring and ends up in my pic. If I take multi pics of the area I would use the pic who doesn't have anyone in the pic so I can put it up on my abandoned pics fb group page. If I am in a rush (getting freaked out or it starts raining or something I would make do with the pics I have... Can't be helped sometimes.
