I created a challenge for myself. A new cosplay every day in the month of January. The suggestions for who to cosplay came from friends and family from a suggestion post made on Facebook and Instagram in December.

The catch? I could only use supplies and clothing from my closet and around the house. I didn’t sew anything new and limited myself to tape and safety pins.

Many believe that we need professional maker skills to create a costume. It’s helpful, but what’s hidden in our closet may be more useful than we think. You know that old prom dress? With a little bit of adjusting it could look just like Meg’s from Hercules. Those thrifted garments, every day clothes, and old costumes can be re-purposed for something new.

It doesn’t have to be perfect your first try. Having room for improvement can make it fun and ever evolving.

What cosplay do you have in your closet?
