I am a graphic designer who has always admired creative detail. I never dreamed that one of my biggest design projects would include butter.
I was eating dinner in San Francisco when our waiter brought out the bread and butter. A beautiful square dish held a thinly sliced butter pat topped with twig of thyme. Absolutely beautiful! I wondered, “How many other restaurants are serving unusual butter?” I was going to find out. I contacted over 800 restaurants, pored over thousands of food blogs and restaurant websites, and looked at countless butter images to seek out the most creative butter displays.
The chefs that I contacted were as excited about butter as I was. They gladly sent photos and gave interviews. Guy Savoy, Paris, gave me a tour of his restaurant and invited me into his kitchen.
I have compiled all of my photos, interviews, techniques and any specific butter information I can find into my website Butter Journal.
I am now a butter enthusiast, seeking out all I can learn about butter and sharing it with you. Enjoy!
