No matter how much some people dislike sayings like “seize the day” or other cliches stating that we all should live our life to the fullest as we never know when things are going to change, there is some truth to it. And all of this becomes more than real when something serious and tragic occurs.

It was the evening of August 11, 2020 when James Alvarez lost his 23-year-old wife Yesenia Aguilar, who, at that time, was 8 months pregnant. Even though the accident took her life, the medics were able to save their daughter Adalyn Rose. A year after the tragic incident, the dad decided to recreate his late wife’s pregnancy photo shoot with his now one-year-old daughter.

James and Yesenia were very excited to become parents. However, the 40-year-old driver Courtney Pandolfi, who was known for driving under the influence, crushed the family’s dreams. On the evening of August 11, 2020, the couple decided to take a walk, as was suggested by their doctor. They were not that far away from home when the DUI driver jumped the curb and hit the woman.

Yesenia died in the hospital, but their baby girl Adalyn Rose, who was delivered through C-section, survived and became the main priority to James. Bored Panda contacted him to see how their family is holding up. Just before the accident, he and his wife had a beautiful maternity photoshoot in nature. One year later, the photographer who was working on the first photoshoot suggested recreating the same photoshoot with Adalyn Rose. They did everything to make these pictures perfect and in this way honor Yesenia’s memory: “We had my daughter dress up like my wife in a light pink dress and take the pictures in the same location as my wife did. We took pictures in the same pose and time to make sure everything was perfect.”

James recollects the time he and Yesenia took these pictures, remembering every beautiful moment he had with his wife that day: “it was so beautiful because she loved being pregnant. I remember how happy she was that day and I will never forget that. How beautiful she looked and that mesmerizing smile that she had. I remember looking into her eyes and telling her how much I loved her. I’ll never forget it.”

This year’s photo shoot was very emotional for the dad because it brought back a lot of memories from that specific day with Yesenia: “It was hard not to cry but I kept a smile on my face knowing my wife was looking down on us. Seeing my daughter that day made me realize how much she looks like her mommy. Beautiful as her mommy.”

Since the accident, James focuses on his daughter, who is growing up to be a beautiful and lovely girl. Her happiness reflects in the pictures, to which the dad added that Adalyn Rose reminds him a lot of her mom: “My daughter has such a beautiful and happy personality that can be addicting. She has a personality that can light up a room, which she got from her mommy.”

Having to go through such a real-life nightmare is more than challenging. But seeing James not giving up and providing his girl with the best life is an inspiration to all people who have had to go through similar experiences. The dad is very thankful to everyone who was there by their side and hopes that sharing his story will also help others “to show the world that no matter what’s thrown at you, you’ll be able to overcome it.” He also revealed the most important lesson that his little daughter taught him and that is “to always keep fighting.”
