Five years ago, my husband, son and I went on a crazy and amazing journey from Sydney Australia to London UK without flying. Seriously. We drove across Australia from Sydney to Perth, took a repositioning cruise from Perth to Singapore and then just trains and buses all the way from Singapore to London. During this trip I knit a square every day and sewed them together to make a blanket that represents that time for me.

Every day now I can look back at that blanket, look at each square and go back to the day and place I made it. It is really special – now more than ever when literally life is the complete opposite of that journey.

The more info link below takes you to free, simple instructions for how to knit a perfect square. Note that this is also the same pattern you can use to make a simple washcloth.

If you are making a wash cloth try to use a yarn that is cotton or cotton blend (this absorbs water better and is sturdier).

This could be a lovely project for you while at home to look back on the time that time for many stood still.
