At this point, is there such a thing as a perfectly executed wedding? Sure, there’s the perfect wedding within the minds and aspirations of brides (and some grooms). But once the plan is put into motion, does it turn out perfect?

The answer is no (or it depends, but it’s ultimately still a no). Nothing’s perfect. And judging by the stories circulating online, it’s probably not gonna get any better any time soon.

You can see for yourself by reading on, but Reddit’s r/weddingshaming community has ample reason to believe that weddings just don’t come in the perfect variety. And that’s fine. The key here is to brace for impact and make the best of it because you can still have a blast. Also, humor helps.

So, why are weddings so difficult to pull off? Same reason why there’s a law of sorts in engineering that dictates the more moving parts you have in a machine, the more likely it is to break. Sure, weddings can range from simple to over-elaborate depending on the imagination of the newlyweds-to-be. But even the basics require a lot of time, energy, and, you guessed it, money.

YTA. Annie clearly knew what you would be like, and was right to keep you out of the wedding. It was dumb assed of Leo, letting you "Introduce the best man, letting " Shame on you for making a speech, and using it to joke about the failure of his previous marriage and suggest they're going to divorce. They're not "Having an extreme reaction to a joke." You disrespected them both, publicly, at their wedding. You disrespected their relationship. Hm, I guess I am at least partially contradicting general opinion here: I do not think that she is necessarily the complete AH you made her out to be. In my opinion, you can make this kind of jokes/roasts (personally, I find them funny) even at a wedding. So she isn’t TA for that alone and it’s not fair to scrutinize and villainize her for that the way you did, since you basically have no way of knowing her true motivations. However, if you want to make these jokes at someone else’s wedding, you have to be 100% sure that they will find them funny and see them as friendly roasts, which obviously failed in this case. That’s the point where she could be called TA for, not being sure that both, bride and groom, share the sense of humor. And yes, she definitely should apologize for this. But: You simply can not know if it was just a failed attempt at humor or if there’s a deeper vindictive reason. So you shouldn’t judge her this harshly based solely on your assumptions.

🤔 You made a speech that suggested ‘wives come and go but me and Leo are forever’ and are shocked that Annie is upset? She’s probably not jealous as much as protecting her relationship - you may not realize it but you’re being territorial. Why didn’t HE call YOU on his honeymoon? Please go watch ‘My Bestfriend’s Wedding’ and sort yourself out. Annie is the most important person in his life and if you care about him you would value her as well. YTAH and possibly a narcissist.

Seems like you don’t know yourself very well. Call YOU on his honeymoon? She’s jealous of YOU? Sounds like she doesn’t trust you and there’s reasons for that - you over-reached into her emotional territory by suggesting wives come and go but I’ll be here forever (ie - you’re going to outlast her). You are NOT more important to him than his WIFE. Your inability to tell if your did anything wrong show either denial (like the movie Best Friends Wedding) or narcissism.

The intro is a lie, she is not Leo's friend, she's his enemy trying to disguise herself as his friend. She's trying to sabotage his relationship and completely disrespecting him and his wife. It doesn't matter how much fun she may be to have as a friend and how many other wonderful qualities she may have as a friend, she is so incredibly toxic that he will be better off without her. She should realize that there are some things wrong with her and get some therapy, and maybe then she could actually be a good friend.

So, what does the average wedding look like these days? According to the National Wedding Survey that surveyed nearly 2,500 individuals in the UK in 2022, it’s a number of things.

Turns out, today’s average wedding is a $22,382 (£18,400) hit in the wallet. Consider that half(ish), i.e. 47%, of all couples decided to go over their budget, and 63% of them got financial aid from friends, family, and other funders.

A lot of these couples prompted for a first date (86%) and a cake cutting ceremony (79%), but very little went with an alcohol-free wedding (11%).

For context, the average wedding in the US is pricier by about 20% (i.e. $28,000). Besides that, cakes aren’t a huge priority (sub-$100 in a 3rd of all cases), and wedding trends are a bit different. The most popular one (91%) was the first dance, followed by 79% of couples color-coordinating floral arrangements and wedding colors. Another popular tradition was the flower girl and ring bearer, with nearly 2/3 of couples prompting for it.
