50 Times People Encountered Perfectly Organized Things And Just Had To Document Them
Interview With ExpertThere's something oddly satisfying about a decluttered and nicely organized space. Our brain loves symmetry, patterns and repetition. And what better way to trigger that dopamine response than to tidy things up according to, say, color? If you're doing it yourself, there's another plus – you can use it as a sort of meditation. Or listen to a podcast you like if you hate being alone with your brain.
This time, Bored Panda has prepared for you some gorgeously satisfying pictures to look at. Whether it's a garage that has undergone a major decluttering makeover or a shelf in a store – we've got you covered. So sit back, relax for a few minutes, and enjoy these lovely entries that might make your brain tingle.
Bored Panda reached out to a certified professional organizer and head of SK Organizing, Shara Kay. She was kind enough to tell us more about how she launched her own organizing company and why we love watching other people being neat so much.

Hot Wheels Display Iâve Assembled For My Office
Same color focused organization is one of my favorite things to do!
Load More Replies...I work for a couple car dealerships and we all have Hot Wheels or RC cars in our offices lol
Load More Replies...First color pops out to me is yellow. There's not enough yellow cars. The only frequent color is red and blue cars.
The colors are fine but there is no logic in the way they stand. Some driving to the left, the others to the right...
Every single one is facing right. Hot Wheels cars have strange shapes.
Load More Replies...We asked the organizing expert Shara Kay how one becomes a professional in the field. She shared her quite unconventional story with us. "I had been working in the entertainment industry for over a decade," Shara begins, "when in 2017, I had a film fall apart in pre-production."
"It was devastating! I turned to my lifelong passion for organizing and began helping family and friends with moves, estate clearing and other projects as a means of channeling my energy."
"It was tremendously satisfying work and I learned that there was a lot of demand for the skills I had always taken for granted. Rather than search for another producing gig, I launched my organizing company and never looked back," Shara tells Bored Panda.

My school bag was this organised on the first day of school, not after the first week. I want to see this on the day before this teacher leaves their job.
Load More Replies...And an organized space has more ROOM to store even more organized stuff!
Even if people who use Shara's services are seeking more organization in their lives, saying goodbye to possessions is hardly ever easy. Bored Panda asked the organizational expert how her company deals with that.
"We encourage clients to examine why they might be struggling to let go," Shara explains. "We suggest strategies and alternatives such as keeping the best example(s) instead of a whole set or category, or taking a photo rather than keeping a memento that is in poor condition."
"When it comes to practical ‘I might need it someday’ items, we recommend setting a rule like not worrying about letting go of unused items that could be replaced in under 30 minutes for under $30," the expert shares some useful advice.
The Way These Wires Flow
I don't (work in IT), but do (salivate). This is not exactly how my home setup looks though... ! đ
Load More Replies...Drat. The cable on Port 13, Cascade 3 needs replacing. If any of the guys I work with used tie-wraps I would remove their fingers.
It's like an amusement park ride for bits and bytes. Very satisfying.
I work in It. They looks coaxial cables. Old fashion security cameras in some big building (a mall or an hospital or any hq site of sort). When local area network (of bits and bytes and not monitor analogic signal) used the same cable standard no way such a populated ports switch ever existed assuming one with fewer ports did. Network trunks were just segments with poor maximum number of nodes (a T junction had to be used for every node) and properly terminated at each end. You were basically lucky if you managed to use a network disk, a printer or the first "email" attempts. Far from what they are today.
Load More Replies...Very unlikely one would ever need to be -- they're simply static cables...
Load More Replies...Its pretty but this one has way too much extra cable. To repair one thing on the third server from the bottom, you'll have to remove cables from 3+ other servers to get access. See the other one with color. The color is a bonus but the cables from one server don't impede access to another one.
These aren't servers. It is a video router with coax cabling going to a patch bay. Once installed and tested, there is no need to re-wire this portion. This is standard cabling practice in the tv industry.
Load More Replies...This effort if truly impressive. In case you did not know, technology works better when it looks better. Neatness cannot happen without attention and attention leads to better results.

"It's incredibly satisfying for both organizers and our clients to see the results of our work. And while there are plenty of larger-scale projects that extend over the course of weeks or months, we can see change happen with each and every appointment. We truly have the best job!"

The Way This Produce Is Arranged

I really love that none of them are wrapped in plastic! Most produces in supermarket near my house comes in an unecessary plastic baggie :/
As you scroll through this wonderful list, you might feel a slight pang of guilt and jealousy. “Why can't I organize my space in such an orderly way?" There seems to never be enough time for tidying up. And there's just so much stuff! Where do you even start?
There are heaps of books, special methods and organizing techniques, making the task of organizing, well, more well-organized. There's the world-renowned KonMari method, the Swedish Death Cleaning technique, and many more. Reaching out to a professional organizer is always a good option too – these people will surely know what they're doing.

But why do people find it so hard to declutter? Why is it so hard to get rid of things we don't need and tidy up our spaces in a well-organized manner? Organizing coach and author of Organize Your Way: Simple Strategies for Every Personality Kelly McMenamin says the phenomenon at fault is the big capitalist beast – consumerism.
"When a consumer buys something because it elicited a positive feeling, improved self-esteem, and increased social belonging, then it's easy to see why it might be difficult down the line to toss those happy vibes into the trash like yesterday's news," McMenamin writes for Psychology Today.

The Way My Mom Mows Crop Circles Into The Lawn
Best thing to happen to a lawn! Definitely prettier/more interesting than a regular mow job.
That's one of the main reasons why saying goodbye to a thing you no longer use might be hard. There are certain memories and feelings mixed with that item. Sometimes even parts of your identity might be in the mix. "The act of decluttering an attic full of past purchases is therefore a lengthy exercise in anticipation of bad feelings," Kelly McMenamin writes.

Wow! I wish the idiot who had organised the water pipes for our building could see this! Only 12 apartments, and they still couldn't even get the meters installed in any kind of numerical order, plus some are randomly stuck on another wall, despite plenty of space.
Ok. Playing Toccata and Flush in D minor, by JS Bachroom.
Load More Replies...Sorry to be the contrarian, but won't stacking them so closely create problems if any has to be serviced? I see a lot of joints in the middle of that stack, and I'm thinking there's no way they can be loosened or tightened.
Exactly. These appear totally unserviceable. The same aesthetic could be achieved by adding a separation of a couple inches to allow for maintenance. Otherwise they would have to unscrew both ends of each relevant pipe instead of only the middle section/junction.
Load More Replies...McMenamin is also an advocate for messy organization. That might sound like an oxymoron, but she assures that it isn't. "Some people are messy, some are neat, and neither has anything to do with organization," she writes for Psychology Today. "Organization is about retrieval. You can be organized regardless of where you fall on that messy/neat continuum."
She has a funny way of dividing people into two groups when it comes to organizational styles: 'pilers' and 'filers'. We can describe the two groups in more simple terms as well: messy and neat. 'Filers' are neat. They're tidy. Piles of paper immediately look disorganized to them.

I Have Synesthesia, That Means I Remember Books Better By Their Color Than By Title Or Author, So This Is What Happens When I Have Enough Shelf Space
Worked in a bookstore when I was younger. I could never remember authors, or sometimes full titles. But show me a cover (or just the spine), and I could about 75% of the time accurately remember if we had it in the store. Useful, as for at least my first year we had two levels of inefficiency - no in-store inventory search, and books were arranged âalpha prettyâ (only kind of alphabetical, larger books to the outside edges, small middle). Alpha pretty was the worst. Youâd have 3 4â sections of books (6 shelves per section) that a specific book might be located in because all of the books in those 3 sections had authors that started with __ (whatever you were looking for). I wish I still had that memory. It was a big store, and I could remember a lot of books.
Itâs amazing to me, the variations synesthesia that people have! For me some sounds have color, and images have smell âșïž
I volunteered in a library in the 1990s and one patron was looking for a book: I can't remember the title or the author but it has a green cover.
I was once that type of person. I was looking for a book, could only remember it being blue, about the plague and set in Eyam. Book was Children of Winter by Doherty.
Load More Replies...And then when you wear out a book by reading it so much and go buy another, the cover is a different color and throws your whole system off.
Thatâs exactly what happened to me with Harry Potter! Iâm used to the British audiobook covers and Audible changed them and now Iâm all confused. And theyâre different from the American covers too. When someone says âthe blue Harry Potter bookâ my first thought is Goblet of Fire but then they go âno Order of the Phoenixâ and then I remember the American physical copies have different covers than the British audiobooks
Load More Replies...I don't know which is more interesting -- the fact that they have this many books arranged by color or if it's because they're all apparently paperbacks the same size.
Okay but how are the sizes all so perfect?? If I tried this with my books the horizontal stacks would never be even because they're all different heights. You'd have to purposely acquire books that could be sorted by both color and height.
I suspect this person has misunderstood what synaesthesia is. Remembering books better by cover colour than author or title is not a type of synaesthesia.
The Way These Shirts Are Arranged
This unfortunately does not work well from what I have experienced. You have to go through a whole stack to find the size you are looking for. It does look great and neat, but I have seen people create an unholy mess trying to find what they are looking for. It does work easier though if they leave the shirt stacks with the shirts in the packaging, easier to see the size and people create less chaos.
I agree completely. I feel terrible whe I have to search through a display such as this, when trying to find my size. I usually try to take the whole stack and carefully fold downward from the collar to find my sze and carefully flip them back and put the pile back as neatly as I can manage. Still makes me feel like an inconsiderate monster though. A display like this is aesthetically pleasing, but not practical.
Load More Replies...Although this looks beautiful, unless they have about 2 customers per hour, it'll soon be a mess - because no matter how neat you try to be, you're never going to leave that pile as you find it, not when you're looking for your size.
As someone who used to work in softlines retail (aka the clothing depts of Walmart) I can say my soul is both soothed and stressed out by this display. Because customers are a******s who don't care about neatness or attention to detail. They just want to find whatever it is they're going to buy, and if they have to destroy an entire display to get to it, well... "It's the employee's job to clean it up, not the customer!"
As someone whoâs also worked in a shop where we sold clothes, it WAS my job to clean up a moderate amount of mess. There are some customers who take it too far, but at the end of the day the purpose of the displays is for people to buy things. If youâre getting mad EVERY time a customer leaves a display anything less than immaculate, either youâre trying to get out of doing your job or youâre misdirecting anger about your employer not staffing the shift well enough for you to do your job. Either way, thatâs not the average customerâs fault.
Load More Replies...Customers destroy it whether they want or not. Smallest sizes are always at top, so if you're not super thin, you have to take one underneath
McMenamin's 10+ year experience in the organizing business has taught her that the second half of the population, the 'pilers', are not untidy. They just have differently wired brains. "I learned that there's usually a rhyme and a reason to any mess or pile," she writes. "Often, a slew of piles masks a simple organizing strategy: a rudimentary piling system."
Seems Like A Good Time To Finally Show Off The Spice Rack I Built
I'm absolutely drooling over this setup and the amount of spices! I have to limit what I buy due to having space issues.
My mum desperately wants one like this, despite having a whole walk in pantry with plenty of shelf space
I notice it's sorted by brand. Better to sort by alphabetical order, or frequency use, or by food usage. I keep my meat spices away from baking spices.
I've Been Working In A Supermarket For 11 Years And Still Find "Facing Up" Oddly Satisfying. I Took These Pictures 1 Month Ago
I understand. It's been 40 years since I worked retail, but when I put something on a shelf I still have to turn it so the label faces front, even drinks in the refrigerator.
Same, itâs been 15 years for me but I still occasionally find myself facing the pop in the convenience store when I go for a snack run lol
Load More Replies...My dad worked grocery for 38 years he still without thinking will face a shelve without thinking about it's just what he does
I work at supermarket, but no matter how well I organize things, customers aways mess it up.
I've never worked in a grocery store, but one of my former students informed me how much he hated "leveling" stock on the shelves. Now, decades later, I take products from the back or I just level the rest so it's one less row clerks need to adjust.
Good way to start off a day, even if tw@t customers mess it up... Us more responsible types appreciate the effort put in.
After Ordering Some Shrimp, Customer Returned The Plate Like This
idk y u r getting downvoted. I mean, could be. But it also could be for fun
Load More Replies...AAiiiiiii - I have a hard enough time dealing with the shells. The heads would tip me over the edge.
Yeah, it's a no to the headed shrimps. Besides having them look right at you, I heard that when buying shrimp, you should get the ones that are de-headed, as after a shrimp dies, an enzyme is released from the head that begins the decomposition process. Buying shrimp with the heads on could mean mushy shrimp.
Load More Replies...The professional organizer describes how she helps the 'pilers’. "I build a piling system that replicates the essence of their natural piling strategy while creating more visual order and efficiency than was there beforehand. I figure out how many piles or categories tend to occur and buy clear, open bins for each and label them."
What's the reasoning behind the organizing method that 'pilers' prefer? Essentially, there's no visually pleasing element. There are no satisfying well-organized spice racks, bookcases are not color-coded. So how can they enjoy the messy order?

When I was in the Air Force, we did this for all our tools in the toolbox. It makes it so that you can instantly tell if a tool is missing. This can be critical on the flight line where a missing tool might be sucked up into a jet engine. We even had two layers of foam. The bottom you panted red, and then the top was black foam. It really made it stand out.

Oh, this makes my spine tingle in the most pleasant way - it's so unnaturally neat and measured. (I'm not making sense, I know, but in my head it's all good. đ)
How?? Selecting your chosen items, mapping them out, and then custom sawing a sheet of wood?
And, redoing the entire thing for the very NEXT item to be added...
Load More Replies...McMenamin writes that it's because the 'pilers' are visual thinkers. They find it hard to locate things once they're away from their sight. In some cases, people even forget that they had an item they hadn't thought about in a long time. For those who prefer piling organizational systems, cabinets are places where things go to rest and never see the light of day again.

"There is no point to me creating an entire new system for a client that looks pristine with everything tucked away inside of a filing cabinet if it's not going to actually work for them," McMenamin concludes in her blog post.

If you guys.like to organize not-too-large things and have access to a 3d printer, google for Gridfinity..
For custom work I'm pretty sure you need some software to do 3d modeling before you can 3d print it.
Not really.. There are tons of places you can download models from for free. Printables.com is my starting point, and if I can't find that, yeggi.com is a search engine for 3d models you can print. You download either and STL file or a 3MF file, load that into some software called a slicer, and then send the results to your pinter. A model like this one would take about 20 minutes to find, download and sent to your printer, than about 2-3 hours to print. Total cost of filament would be less than $2.

Please don't do this - wires should NEVER be coiled around a metal centre (or a hollow one where metal could end up) as it creates a coil that, depending on the current in the wire, could heat the metal centre to the melting point.
This is only true for single conductors. The net current flow in the wires is zero (current on hot and neutral cancel each other out) and this will not create an electromagnet.
Load More Replies...Not a good idea if the stand is metal, you've just created a coil, which might start heating up. For this same reason a boxed extension cord should always be unrolled completely even if you only need 2 of the 5 meters in the box. Same for vacuum cleaner. Speaking from personal experience...
Vacuum cleaner cords and extension leads heat up when coiled due to their resistance and lack of air flow in the coiled state. Being wound around something metal will make absolutely no difference at all. Current on the hot wire and the neutral wire are moving in opposite directions. There is no net magnetic field in this scenario.
Load More Replies...Visually pleasing but dangerous as the other posters already pointed out.
I was abt to say heâs a keeper until I saw Karstenâs postđ
This has created an inductive loop. It will create a strong magnetic field and high resistance in the cable. The end result is heat, potentially melting the insulation, shorting and fire.
No. It won't. The scenario you describe would be true for a single conductor, but not for a cable carrying current in both directions. Two parallel wires carrying equal current in opposite directions result in zero net current flow. Net current flow is required to form a magnetic field.

I'm sure I could pull out carrots from the middle with no problem. Simply place one hand on them is a C shape with one in the middle and pull out the carrot with the other hand.

I don't understand why people organize larger collections of books like this. Must take an Ge to find the one you want if you don't know what colour it is.
Yeah. I love books and I usually sort by genre and non-fiction topic. :) but never ever by color. Looks pretty but not very handy if you want to actually read books.

I Always Sort Puzzle Pieces By Shape Before I Put It Together. Am I Weird?
I haven't done many puzzles, but it seems to me that sorting them by color would be better.
Neither do I. But I 'd argue sorting by shape is better. Our eyes can scan for specific colors far faster than for specific shapes. So, when looking for a piece with specific color and shape, having the shapes already sorted out will speed up the search greatly. The person who did the sorting above, even went the extra mile by orientating all the pieces in a uniform direction. Let say he wanted the piece with white top and blue bottom. I am sure you all can see how fast you all are able to locate the matching pieces from the photo above.

I haven't done a physical puzzle in a while - with cats around, it's not possible so I stick to a puzzle app instead - but this is definitely a new form of organization in my book. How well does it work - does it make assembly faster or slower?
I put the last puzzle together 5 times because the cats kept knocking it onto the floor. I'm getting a rotating puzzle board with drawers and a cover.

Not in books I don't. This type of organizing drives me batty. It's pretty in everything else but I gotta have books by author last name if fiction and by Library of Congress call number if non-fiction.

That is beautifully done. I have a thing where I feel the need to swap the position of the knives with the smaller spoons. I stir more hot drinks more frequently than I butter bread, so having them a centimetre or two nearer would get my tea/coffee to my lips sooner. Priorities!
I do this too! Never thought it was worth a picture though.

So, not everybody uses the same spice labels (in answer to an earlier comment).
If you go on Etsy, you can find labels for all the spices for sale. People will actually make them and print them out in various designs. The other thing they have are jars where you can get etching on the outside. I always wanted to get two jars, one etched with baking soda and one etched with baking powder.

My little contribution. The wiring in my house DB was done nicely before. Then I called another wireman to fix my auto gate. He spoiled it (bottom right). 20230929_1...26b160.jpg
Very satisfying!! I used to be organized like this, before I had a husband & 4 kids, numerous dogs & cats and it all went to hell in a hand basket lol. I now thrive in chaos 💪
Sometimes a customer just needs to get the c**p beat out of them because you know they come along, pull something out and then just dump it someplace else.
As somebody with OCD, I will now keep this page open forever. I have never felt as calm as I just did scrolling through this
All very well, but the retail displays will lose sales because no-one wants to disturb them, and sorting books by colour makes it much harder to find one unless you can remember what colour it is.
