A home has the potential to reflect its owner's personality, and when it comes down to it, people have their own tastes. Who are we to judge someone if they like living inside a rock or a tiny cabin in a forest? All that matters is that you feel relaxed and comfortable in your own place while making sure that it’s customized to fit your style.
Yet when out-of-the-box thinkers express themselves through design, it often results in some of the most unusual homes to ever appear in the neighborhood. The unique properties that we’ve collected from the Facebook page “Unusual Homes” are far from the standard four walls. Scroll through this list to get not-so-conventional inspiration for your future accommodations.

Love it. Secretly hoping those bookshelves rotate independently in both directions.
And that if you line them up just right the room lowers and takes you to the REAL library.
Load More Replies...I initially thought they were using towels for window shades but apparently they are just decorative and there aren't any windows, I would at least make the top of the library a big sky light.
Looks like the shelf in the middle is lined with small, rectangle windows and at the very top, the light coming thru the little vertical slit leads me to believe they did exactly what you said you would have done!
Load More Replies...You would hate it, when you are above 40 and it just hurts to get up there for a book... its so impractical...
47 seven here. I have to just use a ladder to go to my truck cabin. I don't see the problem
Load More Replies...Sweet! Although at that point, I feel like some kind of built in ladder is in order, that collapsible just looks out of place!
Yes. It’s great except for the cheap hardware store ladder.

I want this just down the hall from the library above. Put the library underground and have a hall the opposite direction into a sunroom/greenhouse.
I'm picturing the villain sitting in his jacuzzi, while his henchmen and women bring him his champagne, and cigars. Then, his fluffy white cat floats by wearing a life vest.
Load More Replies...This is Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. It's one of the most famous houses in the world and had a huge influence on American architecture. The people who decided it's "weird" really need to educate themselves.
His buildings also have a tendency to leak and have other issues. They're great design aesthetically but they rarely function well as houses.
Load More Replies...A house dug down in a cave is weird, This is not weird. This is ICONIC.
Still an incredible piece of architecture and the way it is part of the landscape is inspiring.
It is an incredible piece of architecture. It was, however, a lousy piece of engineering. When i was there, it was under reconstruction. The balonies were sagging, had to be torn open, rebar inserted and shored up. Beautiful to look at still.

Load More Replies...Toured the place and it gave me claustrophobia. Damp and dark with small doors, low celings, and tiny windows. Creepy vibe. Not the best FLW effort IMO. A Folly.
Lot of his designs had low ceilings. I always wondered if the guy was like 5 feet tall or something.
Load More Replies...It seems that people are weary of the cookie-cutter homes that we are used to seeing, as research shows that 68% would at least consider a custom-built project, while 63% would buy one. 59% said that they liked the idea of freedom that a custom-designed home provides; meanwhile, 52% reported that it would allow them to build a house that suits their lifestyle the best.
Unique properties are in demand in the rental industry too. According to Airbnb, from 2019 to 2021, nights booked at non-traditional accommodations have increased globally by nearly 50 percent. In fact, earnings were higher for unique than for non-unique listings in 2021. Who wouldn’t want to stay at a castle or yurt that offers many far-from-ordinary and eclectic features?
This is in downtown Kinsale, Cork, Ireland and it's just a bit brighter than most of the houses there. They are all colorful, so it doesn't stand out as much as you might think.
Now I have another place to go in my list and I haven't enough money😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. New Zealand, Iceland, Alaska and now Ireland and like is close to Scotland, Scotland.....

Load More Replies...Wanted more info so I googled: "Kaweah Falls originally designed in 1942 by architect Frank Robert, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. The home is located in the center of Three Rivers, California, near the entrance to Sequoia National Park." https://ciprianicharlesdesigns.wordpress.com/2014/07/20/kaweah-falls/
A property that stands out can be stylish but also have many unique features that are beneficial to its owners. For example, tiny homes made of shipping containers usually require less energy to power, heat, and cool, while the materials can be recycled repeatedly. This reduces carbon footprint, is great for the environment, AND saves you money!
Residences like wineries, apple orchards, or castles might be a great way to connect with nature, discover a new passion, or even start a business. Making wine, selling fruits and vegetables, and renting your property are options for people with an entrepreneurial spirit who wish to purchase unique homes. You could start being your own boss, make a living out of it, and have great stories to tell in the future.

Load More Replies...That's not weird, it's quite normal to see them in the yards of houses around PA.
Home design can help you to feel better and create a connection with your space. However, sometimes it can become really difficult to update it with so many options available. Something seemingly as simple as making the ceiling a focal point can add uniqueness. Beams, paneling, coffered ceilings, and moldings are features that make the environment more custom and your own, just like at this property.
The front door of your place is the first thing people see when they come in, so transforming it into something more quirky will draw attention. A freshly painted entrance like this one with an inviting stone walkway and lighting will be irresistible not to visit. Adding greenery and charming decor to your front porch also brings interest to the eye.
People also will notice your house if you pay attention to your windows. Whether you play with their shape, color, or placement, it's bound to add some curb appeal. This split-circle window not only looks cool but provides a homey and eclectic home aura.
Not so, much if you have a few acres of land around it or big trees or a wall or something. Actually, I like the idea if it's made properly.
Load More Replies...Those are some serious, costly windows. Glad whoever built it had the money to pay for such a beautiful residence. Like living with the birds.

The house is beautiful but no kitchen counters is a deal breaker. I'm not chopping onions on the floor
If it is like one of the places we stayed at in Japan, the "counter space" pulls out from the wall unit. If this is the place I'm thinking of in Argentina though, I think it's more of an office style rather than a house.
Load More Replies...I think they are very expensive self washing windows which apparently is a thing i learned.
Load More Replies...Nothing unusual here, just not as common as a 'slapped together matchstick house that literally looks like everyone else's house'. I like this one better.
The couch seems to block the cabinet, but all in all seems a nice place
Don't order a pizza. It'll make your house fall over.

What in the wild Weasley architecture ? The only thing holding up that porch is belief.
It looks like a boat shelter ( white part ) with a place to live on top.
Load More Replies...It looks like the house on the water has a thought bubble and is dreaming of another house.
I can just imagine how challenging it must have been to build this. Incredible
If you’re in the market for a new home, you’ve probably noticed that many of them still look like replicas of each other with the same box-shaped silhouette, neutral color palette, and furniture. Unfortunately, the standing trend is low-maintenance, easy-to-replicate designs since customizations can become costly quickly. The term “tract housing” appeared to refer to accommodations that are mass-produced and have standardized designs and planned communities. They are affordable and accessible but lack uniqueness and personalization. Additionally, they reduce architectural diversity in neighborhoods and have low resale value.
I agree. I actually scrolled back up to make sure I read the title of the list correctly.

Load More Replies...While contemporary home designs may become similar, vernacular architecture always remains unique as a response to the geographic and cultural context of the house surroundings. It’s considered a symbol of the cultural identity of a particular place. It uses traditional resources and materials of the area and is built to meet specific needs, economy, and lifestyles of a specific culture. Just look at this breathtaking Yves Saint Laurent museum in Marrakesh, inspired by the local techniques and materials.
Modern buildings don’t have to be a sore sight in cultural landscapes, they can be carefully incorporated with regional resources and principles just like these vernacular towers.
I would like to see the aerial view. Looks like it would appear as a flower in bloom.

Do those windows lead from the kitchen into the garage? Why..? Such a shame with such a nice place.
I see your point. But my guess is, I have an amazing old car and I wanna see it, like a Picasso or another amazing picture( Munch one for example)
Load More Replies...Maybe this was originally a kind of shop/store/mechanic workplace, later reorganized to make it a home
The downside of having an expensive and stunning kitchen is you have forgo having a luxury car
The car actually looks like an antique Mercedes-Benz, which many consider a luxury car..so apparently they can afford both lol.
Load More Replies...I can't find a picture of that side of the lofted spaces, but the feature on the ground level has a painting hanging on the other side of it. They seem to just be architectural elements and not operable doors.

My OCD makes me want to bring my pressure washer and some exterior wood stain.
It just seems so out of place right there. Don't know if it's the light wood or what. Just doesn't fit in.
It's new. After a couple of years the wood will mellow to a silvery colour and sit nicely into the landscape
Load More Replies...It would look better with some natural grasses around it. Not the uniform "perfect" green lawn, but native grasses instead of that concrete patch.
Looks like a store front to me. A pretty store front, but still a store front.
This looks like those plastic stairs people get to get in and out of their hot tub
It's actually steps for a giant.. someone just found it a convenient home
Ya gotta watch that first step. But hey, at least they have a satellite dish.
If you jumped out the window to get away from assassins you would plunge into the pool to safety. Yes, I've been binging 007 films.
A big fan of balconing I guess........at least seems safer than just jump from the top of a hotel in Mallorca.
This works well in hurricane prone areas. Wind goes around, cannot " grab hold" and tear house apart. ¹
Gotta make sure to have perfect symmetry though, or in certain wind directions one side will have a low pressure situation :-)
Load More Replies...I think we just found an inspiration from all of those "camping life" signs that have the little rounded trailers.
Unless a storm is coming 😂 but yes, gorgeous view!
Load More Replies...Not bad for a cabin in the woods. But I wouldn't want to live there all the time. Must have a river near by that maybe floods their grounds some, hence the short stilts. Or the floor is not insulated. Shorts summer stays would be nice.
There are loads of areas in the UK that look like this. Especially coastal towns and cities. I used to live I Brighton, and there were countless streets that would look like this. This street is in Chelsea, London.
It just like a wormy house Wich his entrance is q vagina
Load More Replies...Did somebody take a panorama photo and it came out like this and they said, ooh, I like that, let's make a house like that?
So many of these houses are built in the middle of nowhere. I often wonder about the utilities. Electricity comes to mind.
Earthship construction often encompasses solar power and always uses passive solar heating. The way it is oriented (facing south) allows for the sun to shine in during the winter and warm the home. In the summer, when the sun is overhead the interior is shaded and the thick earthen walls act as insulation keeping it cool (like a cave). Uses very little power; extremely energy-efficient.
Load More Replies...It's an earthship! Big community in New Mexico. Made from recycled materials and stucco or cob and designed with passive heating and cooling! Amazing homes - this is what I want!
Those are all glass bottles encased in the green walls, which make surprisingly good insulation for keeping things cool in the heat & warm in the cold.
In a sense it was, the company is called Earthship. They specialize in homes made from recycled materials and that are environmentally friendly. They tend to have solar panels, catch basins for rain water, stuff like that

You are a wise panda. :). Sadly fact, he was hitted by a tram, the ppl thought that was a homeless and ended diying. Read the Wikipedia his biografy is awesome. Also most ppl things he used psilocibes (allucinogen kind of fungi) and can see in his construction forms of that fungi.

If that was filled with white suds it would look a bit like a baked potato.
I hope that the inside has been glazed. If not it could be a little rough on skin.
I thing is a great idea. The stone keeps the warm of the hot water. Just brilliant
I'm sure some people would call it heresy, but I think that wall would look great with a whitewash on it to lighten up the room and still show the natural wood grain.
Is that a real window or a TV screen displaying the image of a window? It doesn't look quite right, and the speakers on either side would be exactly the kind of thing you pair with a TV.

This is way too exposed to the elements imo. I love having an outdoor space but I also want to have the ability to close it off if the elements and I are not in agreement..lol
A normal beach house would be stunning.here with that view, that thing looks so out of place
Looks like its made of drift wood, shells and whatever people left behind
This isn’t weird. It’s just one of those wavy-chair, round-ceiling, tea-light-fire-hazard-star houses.
Hell of a fireplace. The dog looks content. That's all that matters.

I really dislike this style. There are a bunch of apartment buildings that have gone up near me in the last few years with contrasting exterior materials. I can guarantee that in 20-30 years when the exterior starts to need repair the owners are going to look at the estimate and then spray the whole thing one color and it will look awful.
Looks as if you could press a button & the whole thing would disappear into the ground....
I find those black, clunky lamps far more offensive to the eye than the stools
Love the stools. The lamps are just so wrong for the space.

If they had done a better job with the fake stone it wouldn't look so bad.
Load More Replies...This was featured on the BBC programme, Grand Designs, season 12, episode 5, "The Derelict Water Tower". The water tower is a grade II listed building, and the work done had to ensure the safety of the original building. An extension was added to house the elevator, and also the kitchen, dining room and sitting room. The angle at which the photograph was taken makes it look r exposed, but it isn't really.
They actually made it better. It was down for demolition at one point in its history.
