And he was a blue-eyed white guy....It's right there in the paintings....
Load More Replies...But, but, but, Jesus was a strapping young Viking lad with long golden red hair, pale skin, and deep blue eyes. He also spoke immaculate English and would certainly have been deeply disturbed by Starbucks making their coffee cups secular for the holidays. (I’m being sarcastic for all you Pandas who think otherwise.)
Jesus wasn't a christian though, he was jewish. Other than that yes, it still amazes me too some people can't comprehend people from middle east or Africa could be christian.
He was the origin of Christianity, though. He and his followers formed the new religion.
Load More Replies...Maybe because stuff that happened 2000 years ago is not always relevant to what happens now 🤔 It's like saying "still beyond me that Nigerians are surprised that the Czech republic has a Vietnamese minority."
That comparison doesn't really work though. Christianity is very wide spread and the bible is well known - still the depictions of Jesus are mostly ignorant of his heritage and cherry pick what fits the circumstances.
Load More Replies...Come on! Everybody known Nazareth lies in Belgium. So jesus is a beer drinking, chocolate loving fries eating blond Belgium.
I thought Nazareth was in PA! Either way it's Oktoberfest!!!
Load More Replies...When I was going to church in elementary school and learned where Jesus was born, I had always wondered why he was always portrayed as White.
You will be even more surprised when you hear that Africans depict Jesus as black.
Load More Replies...dude i go to a catholic school and we're taught with a painting of jesus who looks actually jewish and from the little easy not blonde and blue eyes
I don't know why everyone is so upset - never happened. Cue endless backlash..!
Some say He looked more like Osama bin Laden or Saddam Hussein then any white man most people will ever meet. What’s clear is that He was a Middle Eastern Jew Who is described as very plain-looking and also tortured beyond recognition before He was hung on the cross.
I totally feel u. It shocks me when I still run into ppl that think all Africans look a certain way.
Here's a big shocker. There are more non-white Christians in the world than white Christians.
and how many people know that " Muslims believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed many times through earlier prophets such as Adam, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus " ????
He spoke English? How odd, no one would understand what he was saying. Where is this from? Oh course being Jesus he could speak every language. But I'd bet an upper G.I. that you are wrong.
Jesus wasn't Christian but I do have to say that most of what we hear about religion in the Middle East is Muslim or zealots. I only learned that many are Christian about five years ago when I took a job with a company based in Dubia. It's incredibly small sighted I know, but that's the info we have been fed. I was pleasantly surprised to learn there are lots of Catholics, too.
-So you have a Jesus of Nazareth movie for me? -Yes sir, I do. And I was thinking, lets cast Max von Sydow in the titel role, he is a great actor! -You mean the blond blue eyed actor from Sweden that looks like exactly like how you would picture a stereotypical man from Scandinavia would look? -Ye ye ye, that is him for sure. He is great. -Don't you think it will be weird to have a blond Swedish man play Jesus... of Nazareth... as in... you know... in the Middle East? -Jeez, I need you to get all the way of my back about that thing sir. -Well ok then, let me get off of that thing. -Thank you sir, and also, I was thinking... John Wayne. -*sigh* ook.. yeah why not. -Yeah, it is going to be great! In fact, it might even be The Greatest Story Ever Told.
After the illegal invasion of Iraq and deposing of Saddam Hussein the Large Iraqi Christian community was left unprotected and religious zealots took out their wrath on them. Thousands were killed while the US and its allies did nothing. Not much different from the first Crusades. When Turkish Christians came out to greet them but were dressed in local garb, they were slaughtered.
Jesus is a 30 year old dude who wears sandals, writes a lot of metaphors, plays the lute and lives with his father
I am actually surprised that they have yet to start displaying Jesus in a pilgrim outfit shaking hands with George Washington at the base of the Statue of Liberty. Probably because the signature white and blue robes identify the painted figure as Jesus instead of say one of the Bee-Gees. If you progress too quickly into the modern era, you are going to lose your audience.
Maybe you should stop thing a whole culture of people is so much less enlightened than you. It has become so over done and sad. Who the eff would really think Jesus was from New Jersey? I realize this was said in jest, but talk about your bigoted view.

Impressive
It’s no secret that the internet is a notorious meme-making machine. Everything is turned into a meta joke here – from politics to celebrity gossip, from mishaps to… history. And when it comes to the latter one, the History Memes community on Reddit needs no introduction. Created in 2012, ten years later, it has turned into an impressive internet powerhouse with a whopping 5.3 million members.
And while there’s no doubt that history aficionados are not just aware, but most likely engage in this community by sharing history-related memes and jokes, the question remains if academics are just as excited. After all, memes are always on the verge of not being taken too seriously, and history is one hell of a serious nut to crack.
Where’s The Love?
They were part of the British Empire, Britain got the credit. I'm not downplaying a thing, India's contributions in the war were stellar, but being part of the British Empire it was under the British flag and the British military. They weren't an independent nation at the time, and this was an important part of the reason why there were calls for India's independence after the War.

So to find out an expert’s take on history memes, we reached out to Darren R. Reid, a historian and lecturer at Coventry University, the Department of International Studies and Social Science. Reid not only didn’t condemn history memes but even praised them for being a great way to learn about the past. “They help communicate complex ideas in a really compelling and interesting way. And like all memes, they are also great fun!” he said.

When asked if he has noticed any changes in the ways lecturers and teachers teach their students history these days, Reid confirmed that’s absolutely the case. “At Coventry University, where I work, we even integrate content creation into the degree. Students can stage exhibitions, they can make documentaries,” Reid said.
He added that “it's a really exciting way of exploring the past - and sharing your ideas about history with the world.”

And for those children who are thinking of starting a history degree, Reid assures that it is one of the best subjects you can study. “It gives you access to a nearly limitless body of knowledge and stories. There is literally something for everyone in the past. And studying it is a great and exciting honor.”

Meanwhile, Reid’s advice for prospective history students is to always think critically. “There is a lot of false information on the internet today. A lot of groups have tried to politicize the study of the past and that, I think, reflects how fundamentally important history is to our society,” he said.
“So to any potential student, get reading and start exploring the evidence in a critical and open way,” Reid concluded.
