if the nation could have been exposed to the things that the new york papers and media exposed about him in his yearly years he wouldn't have half the base that he has now. he was a laughing stock to the elite group that he literally conned his way into, doing everything from planting things in papers about himself, making sure he was present during some charity events - he one time got on stage to claim a large donation as his own when the actual person was making their way to the stage. by the time that person got there the press had taken the pics they wanted and left. he called/calls into places using aliases to promote himself. he only thinks he is a celebrity and those that agree are just used to the smoke and mirrors.

He's actually really talented and has put out a ton of consistently great songs over the years. It's not really my style, but I'd say he's worth the acclaim as an artist. He just also happens to have some severe personality problems that make him extremely punchable.
