Hamburg, Germany. Everybody talks about Berlin, some Americans like Munich, but Hamburg is rarely mentioned.

Linz, Austria. My family stopped there on a trip once, and I wish we got to spend more time. The architecture was beautiful, it wasn't overly chaotic (unlike Vienna), and they had this really cool electronics museum, in addition to a castle with BEAUTIFUL views.

Although I enjoy big city trips I really do enjoy small towns and villages. Some of my favorites (some might be well known...but maybe not worldwide):

Santoña - Spain (world's best anchovies)
Haro - Spain (all about wine and food)
Santillana del Mar - Spain (adorable village)
Najac - France (great local food and spectacular castle)
Tropea - Italy (great food - amazing sea)
Ouistreham - France (looks simple, but got divine food and sweets and an impressive beach)
Luss - Scotland (overrun by visitors in the daytime; calm and beautiful in the evening; great Scottish food in town as well)

These are just some...

Marseille, France. It’s not as well known, but right on the southern coast set against the gorgeous blue green water. The architecture is wonderful and some really beautiful places here. Most people visit Paris or Lyon but the south is well worth a visit too!

Poznań in Poland.
The first city I have visited that stole my heart immediately.
I would move there from if it weren't for the specific political situation in PL.

Surfside Beach, Texas. Very small town on the Gulf Coast. Every house is a beach house painted in summer colors. In summer the water is warmer than a bath.

Drive your car up and down the beach - windows up - music playing, park near the dunes and jump in the water. Stay all night sleeping there

Another answer: My hometown, Raleigh. It's the capital of North Carolina (US state) and while it's not the biggest city in the state, it's really cool. We have a ton of local restaurants and shops, good public transport, good parks, and interesting festivals and celebrations that happen, like the Acorn Drop (NYE).

It's also a really unique city, since it's one of the only major planned cities in the former 13 colonies, so Downtown is very well-organized. Raleigh's mayor also surrendered before Sherman reached the city, so unlike some other major cities in the South, we have a ton of Antebellum buildings, which are maintained by the city.

However, most people come here because we have a hockey team, which is literally the pride and joy of this place. We have Hurricanes banners, there are two MASSIVE pictures of Canes players on two different skyscrapers, there's a city-commissioned Hurricanes mural Downtown, and don't even get me started on the playoffs, you'll see grown adults walking around in jerseys the next day.

We also have a good nightlife (Glenwood South, for instance) and the city passed a "Sip N' Stroll" ordinance, so in certain parts of the city you can get a drink, and carry it around with you after you leave.

The City of Oaks is f*****g awesome.
