Looking through shelves, garages, and basements of our parents' homes, what gadgets or extravagances did they buy that have always stayed in storage? We had a Nordic Track under a pile of boxes for decades and a beautiful platter, wrapped in protective paper, that no one had ever seen.

Candles. My parents bought a lot of candle tapers, like for dinner parties, but I don't ever remember them ever lighting them. They would place them in the candle holders and then.put them back in the drawer after dinner. Eventually they would warp and have to be replaced, so I don't know what they were saving them for.
