The canon in my living room.......pointed at the front door. Yes, it's a real canon.
We have a set of racist dental tools marked "White Surgery" and "Colored Surgery" that my mom found when she worked at the University of Tennessee. She didn't want her children whitewashed so she hung them up to say LOOK WHAT HAPPENED. People obviously often assume it is a racist statement but it is the opposite. Nobody would ever be able to convince her white, privilege happy kids that horrible racism was not the norm and in many ways still is. We weren't ALLOWED to not be anti-racist. That seemed like a triple negative. No racism allowed was her statement. Because look how disgusting it really feels when you mount it on the wall.
Wish my rents were like that, but my father is extremely racist and my mother is a closeted racist. It really sucks.
