In college i subleased a house apartment with another guy. We were on the 3rd or 4th floor attic of a hundred year old building. We had central heating, but the building had a primitive steam heater in the basement - this meant that the hot steamy air would shut itself off before it warmed our floor.
Believe it or not, “Nurse Wolf” and her husband owned the building. Nurse Wolf would threaten to evict us when we complained of the November cold in Iowa.
My revenge? Iowa Housing or Health Dept came out and observed that our heat could not reach 70 degrees Fahrenheit, so the Wolf family was obliged to buy an expensive new HVAC.
I also informed the city fire department about our lack of fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, (which she had to purchase) and possible wiring hazards in the indoor wooden fire escape.
I considered legal action when she retaliated by evicting me, but i disliked my roomy and was happy to leave
