The first radio station was/is in Pittsburgh…KDKA. Fuzzy on the details as to why, but it was decided as more stations opened across the country, the stations west of the Mississippi River would use all K’s to start the name of the station and east of the Mississippi would start with W’s. But not KDKA! They refused to change, and to this day is the only station east of the Mississippi that starts with a K, and none west of the Mississippi start with a W.
