Tomatoes? I don't much like eating them, but they're pretty easy to grow, abundant, and just all an round happy plant. There are big tomatoes, massive tomatoes, itty-bitty ones, and cylindrical "Roma" ones. Pick one that suits your personality and have fun.

Pets, definitely pets. Even if you can't get out of bed because of depression, you can get up to feed the cat. The greatest anti depressive is a fuzzy little forehead, and a plaintive quizzical meow makes life worth living.

Absolutely for sure. I am now 73 years old and have suffered from depression my entire life. I am now dealing with Stage IV metastatic lung cancer. Nothing makes me feel better then being with my little dog. I talk to him constantly and hug him as much as I can. The physical contact is very soothing. Pets can indeed be miracle workers.

I have clinical depression and I'm being treated but a HUGE part of taking care of my mental health is taking my dog for a long walk to the park everyday. I get sunshine, get some exercise and Hank gets to chase the squirrels. It has improved my mental health by leaps and bounds so even when I don't feel like it I can usually make myself go. Hank helps keep me on track too because if 3pm comes around and I'm not putting my sneakers on he starts whining at me and giving me the sad eyes.

Exercise. I go to the gym 4 times a week, swim one a week and take a Pilates class. It always makes me feel better when I have worked out.

Being by myself. The best part of the working day is clocking out, knowing I'm going home to a nice cup of tea and total solitude.

If I'm feeling depressed or anxious doing these three things helps : 1, Do something kind for someone else, 2, Do something creative and 3, Achieve something (usually some form of housework).
