Every family has particular dishes that are unique. I have a passion to make good food and always looking for something new to try. Different cultures' views of a dish can make it completely different. Would love to broaden my knowledge.

I can tell you about a dish what for me feels like a family recipe, because it is a local specialty in the region in Germany were my mothers party of our family comes from. I know it sounds weird first, but it is really delicious. It is called "Himmel & Erde" and it consists of mashed potatoes, apple puree and pieces of blood sausage, breaded in flour. The mashed potatoes should be spiced with nutmeg, the apple puree is best when it has pieces left in it and is served in room temperature. Sausage must be in natural casing.

I have heard of that before, and would be interested to try sometime, except I can't eat apples. I've never had blood sausage and would like to try it sometime, but I think I would have to go to a specialty delicatessen as it's not common in Australia.

We don't really have family recipes as such, not passed down through generations anyway, possibly because Australian isn't really an interesting culture lol. My grandparents would most commonly cook 'meat and three veg' and the veg would be boiled to death. My dad still eats that sort of thing. My mum did give me a recipe book when I moved out of home that was the same as one she used most often though. I do like the microwave meatloaf (I know this idea repulses some people lol) from that, but have had to adapt it as I can't eat oats. My family did have some good cake recipes though, like a sponge cake and a 1,2,3,4 cake but I rarely bake. Oh, and mum does a good microwave corned beef too- I'd forgotten that!
