I recently started going through old photos and came across a great pic of my great-grandparents thinking they were Bonnie and Clyde! I'm sure there are some wonderful photos out there of family being way cooler than us!

My grandfather liked to play piano and although not a true composer, he wrote a piece for her called ‘my little dancing girl’ which so eloquently summed up his love for her and their days of dancing. He didn’t reveal that to me until a few years before he passed away. I only heard him play it once and it was a very touching moment when he did that in front of a few family members after many decades of that piece sitting dormant in the back of his memory.

Such swagger.. Back then they really didn't even try to stand out it was just so natural.. The clothes people wore lent them selves to style. 20s and 30s especially,at least in my opinion how could you not feel all that and a bag of chips ,wearing clothing like they had

Mind boggling to think how our technological advancement accelerated in the 20th Century. People born in 1900, when most folks still drove around by horse and buggy, used candles or had gaslight in their homes, and probably didn’t have a telephone, washer or dryer, or an icebox, were able to see it all as it happened, going to the moon, computers, automated appliances, cars, just The Future, and it was way better than even Jules Verne imagined! Those that lived to 100 got to ring in a not just a new century, but a new millennium to boot!

Oh they were the nicest people ever! Sadly Nanny Milly had 2 types of arthritis and her body became so weak that she passed away due to it. Pop developed dementia shortly after we lost Nanny. We think it was kept at bay because he had Nanny and her health to focus on. I was working as a home carer, going to college and looking after Pop too. I was there when he passed away, and I always remember he smiled at me and then passed over to be with Nanny. They were salt of the earth and I adored (and still adore) them x

He went in for overtime an was going to work through lunch to leave early. It was their anniversary. My mom was 5 when he died. Nanny never remarried. His nickname was Red cause of his hair. My grandmother with my dad, early 1954. My grandfather was in Korea at the time and didn’t get to meet my dad until he was 18 months old. She wanted to be a nurse but my grandfather wanted her to have a more traditional role at home, so she was kind of the midwife of the small town they lived in and helped deliver several babies. She also painted, sewed amazing clothes, and pretty much had a small working farm that she did all the work in while my grandfather was at work. I miss her stories. And her dumplings.

When they went in their first date he got her an elephant charm bracelet. He was also killed in a work explosion on a Saturday he normally didn't work. He went in for overtime an was going to work through lunch to leave early. It was their anniversary. My mom was 5 when he died. Nanny never remarried. His nickname was Red cause of his hair. Thought I'd add a bit more.

Also this was supposed to go under the photo of my grand parents at the beach. My great grandfather was a bit old fashioned an yes stoic. People really didn't know to smile in photos.

Looks like grandpa was the fun one. She looks a bit stoic but for all I know she was the life of the party and he was stern.

It is a cedar stake used to hold a beaver trap in place. he has just hauled a big one out of the water and my father took his picture. the beaver is in the lower part of the frame. Most likely late 40s or early 50s

Sarah Ann's husband died of measles at the age of 40 in 1902. According to an old newspaper article, Sarah Ann said she and the children worked the farm and were able to add an additional room to their one-room home. Shortly after that construction was completed, a cyclone demolished the home completely. Sarah and two daughters suffered serious burn injuries as the wood stove was going at the time of the twister. The two other daughters were swept a mile into the field and were bloodied head to toe from getting entangled in some barbed wire. The folks in the community came together and built them a new home. This short description does not do justice to the hardships they endured and the strength they all had to have to get through those hard times. I often think to myself if Sarah Ann managed to take care of her family like she did, then I can deal with whatever life hands me. CORRECTION: The youngest was only 13 months old when Sarah's husband passed away.
