From a phrase to an action, anything can help break down society's boundaries.

Usually, people do the opposite of the stereotype to break them and realize that it's what empowers you. Women can't work in construction? Work in construction. Men can't cry? Cry.
Stereotypes don't do harm in and of themselves, it's how people perceive them. I.e. "Men tend to be more physical." Yeah, they tend to be, it's not a law, though. Stereotypes are never a law — realize that, and you'll break free.

I'm Irish and I don't like potatoes! I'm over 6ft, broad-set with a beard and generally 'look like trouble', but I grew up with 3 sisters so I know how to do so-called 'girly stuff'. I also did a lot of stage acting. Needless to say, I can paint nails, do make-up, sew and cook considerably better that my wife.
You don't break a stereotype, you just don't be one. Then when the next generation come along, you be sure to tell them that they can play with barbies or action man, cars or ponies, football or ballet. Just do what you enjoy and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
