Dog Goes To Target, Has The Best Time Of Her Life

I work in retail and everyone thinks this is cute but its not. I cant tell you how many shopping carts have been soiled by dogs. Sometimes we find out and clean them but im sure many times they just return the cart for some unsuspecting customer to use. Imagine all the things you buy coming in contact with that. There are many other reason only service dogs should be aloud and even service dogs should not be in the carriage because of hygiene issues. Not cool very selfish! I feel very strongly about this i have seen a lot in 30 years of retail.

Zira is insanely cute! Sure, dirty doggy paws I'm the basket are gross, but then again, how about drippy chicken or beef water from people's meat purchases, dirt from fresh produce, pesticides from unwashed produce, leaks from household chemical purchases, leaks from dirty diapers, and who-knows-what from toddlers' shoes? Germs are just everywhere. At least doggy germs come with cute!

After seeing all of the post about dogs in stores. I wonder if things have changed in Germany. When I was a kid it was completely normal to go to a cafe/restaurant and see people's dogs sitting on the floor next to the table. I can try and empathize with those with allergies or immunity issues, but they bare the responsibility for their issue more than any other. I saw a post about a child with a compromised immune system. The mother was irate about kids coming to school with a cold. Blaming everyone for trying to harm their kid. Again I can empathize with the struggle they have to deal with, BUT... The rest of the world cannot accommodate every issue that exist. Otherwise nothing would exist. I probably sound uncaring. Asfor the dog messes. Those people suck. That is something they can and should have cleaned up.

I'm pretty allergic to dogs AND cats, and with airborne allergens, anyone can have a horrible reaction. They should put the health of their customers first, IMO.

I lived in Germany, where dogs was allowed in numerous malls and stores. Of course, not in the food shops. Not in a cart, but on the leashes.

Also btw I appreciate everyone bring the dog issue up in retail stores. All I saw was a bunch of cute dogs. But why wouldn't they be responsible. That has to be frustrating.

Your dog( non service animal)went to Target , and left dog hair in the cart and all over Target for people with serious allergies. Way to go!!!! Try thinking about others. Non service animals need to stay out of public places.

I don't want dog a*s in my shopping carts. Groceries sold in the store or not - no pet a*s. I love my dog and my cat, however they do not belong in stores. The only ones the dog has ever been in are ones where it is posted specifically that they are allowed.

Pets don't belong in stores. Only service animals do. Even in pet stores, you can have conflicts between animals. I saw someone behind me at PetSmart letting their cat try out several toys, and then put them all back. NO! I work with several visually impaired people, and their dogs should go anywhere they do. But pets don't belong in stores! I just took my 2 cats out today for the first time in a year, and it was to get their booster vaccines, and they each have a carrier. I practice what I preach.

I would prefer most dogs over many adults and a good many children. Can you imagine the bacteria from a soiled diaper? I've work in retail too and saw a woman leave her child unattended and he reached into his diaper and "decorated" a section of the store. Animals can't help being animals and even their owner can put down a pee pad in the cart.

I think that well behaved dogs (who don't jump/bark at people and/or pee or poop on the floor) should be allowed in all buildings that don't carry food, but should not be put in the cart. Sure, it is cuter and probably easier for you but this is a dog we are talking about, not a doll, and the dog would probably prefer to walk. Also, the dog would be getting the cart dirty. Ask if you want to take the dog in a store and on a short, well controlled leash.

Bonnie you really don't like kids do you. You do realize you were a kid once! I'm not against dogs they should be service dogs on leases if they go into a store. Why is that so hard? Pets don't have to be in carts. Unless they are trained to handle the noise, bright lights, lots of people and other stimuli you can be doing them a disservice and stressing them out.I have a son on the spectrum and he occasionally has a meltdown ( not a tantrum) so we go outside. I see dogs barking pulling on leashes and owners just keep walking along. it's not ok.

This is another example of people taking advantage of the service dog laws (it's against the law for retailers to even ask). It puts a negative view on the importance of service/therapy dogs, and gives a bad rep to responsible owners (those who actually need the animals for assistance).

Just wait for the first dog bite in Walmart or target. Lawsuit waiting to happen!

Pet dander triggers an asthma attack with dangerous COPD symptoms closing my bronchial tubes. I love dogs and wish I could be near them, but I love breathing more. Please don't be an entitled person. Respect those of us who risk serious illness or death. Another point, where do pet owners draw the line? Should society allow a pet owner to bring a dozen dogs in a store? How about horses, monkeys or emus?

To all the people saying pets should never be allowed in stores: I worked the front door as security at a sporting store that allowed pets, meaning that I saw every pet that came in during the 8 hours I was on the clock. We sold plenty of food there. It is not against health codes. I am scared of small dogs. I have severe pet allergies. I am still alive. We never had any problems with pets in our store. Ever. We had: dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, rats, mice, and more come into the store. Get over yourselves. We drew in MORE customers being pet-friendly than we did before people found out we were pet-friendly. No one died. We had no incidents. The only rules we had for pets was that they were trained for relieving themselves outside and that they were friendly. Other than that, all were welcome, and again, no problems at all.

I've never heard of any store - not just a Target - that allows dogs other than service dogs.
