George Michael, the founding member of Wham!, died peacefully in his sleep over the Christmas period at the age of 53.
"It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period," his family said in a statement. The family also asked to respect their privacy "at this difficult and emotional time."
His death inspired a wave of tweets about how generous George Michael was during his life.

Load More Replies...It doesn't matter why GM was there, he could have made a big deal about what he was doing. He didn't - that says a lot. Thanks for sharing your story <3
He wore a hat :D Now, seriouslly, sounds like a good human being.
Load More Replies...Do you remember the call he made to Capitol Radio's 'Help a London Child' and doubled the total amount raised??
In vitro fertilisation, where the egg is fertilised outside the body and then put back in the mothers womb to grow.
Load More Replies...Love these stories, but don't understand the negative comments. Haven't you ever heard of 'don't speak ill of the dead'? Comment away if you're perfect. RIP George.
Who in the hell would say ANYTHING bad about HIM?! Did he come to their house and kick their dog or something??? How IDIOTIC! If you have nothing nice to say, go away and shut the f**k up!
Load More Replies...Sarah Ray - do you not think that maybe the stranger was perhaps invited to that cafe by a friend who she talked to about being in debt? Just because someone is IN a cafe, doesn't mean they are spending any money. Or, she may have given money for a coffee. Ultimately NOBODY knows the background information about this story apart from those involved - so please THINK before you make a sarcastic & spiteful comment about a situation you know NOTHING about. It does not make you look clever - it makes you look shallow, bitter and cold-hearted. The whole point about these posts is for people to post NICE comments about George Michael. Were you not taught common courtesy? Were you not told "if you can't say anything nice, it is better to say nothing at all"? Even if you did not like him or his music, or you thought he was an awful person... that is fine... they are your thoughts... no-one else's. That's the way THOSE kinds of thoughts should remain... to yourself.
Plus,if you are thousands of dollars in debt, the price of a cup of coffee isn't going to make an ounce of difference....But it will give you somewhere warm to sit...

R.I.P. George. You were a treasure in more ways than one. Say hi to David and all the other talents that have left us this past year and before....
I'm so shocked about George Michael's death. He had one of the most beautiful voices ever (when he sang 'Somebody To Love', wow... that was mad!). Now, like some other commenters, I don't understand the negativity coming from some people. I hope they aren't that way when they go to funerals: 'Your dad died because he was an obese creep and deserved it', 'What else did you expect? Your sister died because God hates lesbians and her life was a sin'.'Your husband was a lousy guitar player, I hope he rots in hell'.Just unnecessarily mean comments (thoughts and feelings!). George died alone in Christmas and, yes, he had a life before his death, like all of us; just leave his soul rest in peace, please. :'(
R.I.P George Michael. You go straight to heaven for sure. At least I hope so. 😇
We were listening to "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, and I remarked that though Freddie Mercury was gone, George Michael had the same amazing voice, so we were lucky. Then I hear the news he, too has passed away. Dumbstruck! Over the years GM has given us so much great music. He'll be missed. Too many unique talents have gone, and can't be replaced.
I've never known him and after reading this, I regret I didn't know him...
l was away over the Christmas break for four weeks without tv and internet..l did not know that he had passed..had also missed the passing of Carrie Ficher..a lot happens in four weeks..l am truly sad at hearing of who we have lost over the last month.. :(
