Creating bridges of expression, collaboration and understanding in the arts is inherent in the soul of Tjokorda Gde Arsa Artha (known as ‘Gde’). From an early age, Gde studied a diverse spectrum of the visual and performing arts in his Bali homeland. During the 1980’s, he arrived in New York and attended the Arts Students League then went onto success in the visual arts which included a commissioned work from UNICEF and a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. In addition to his visual art success, Gde’s progress also flourished in Balinese music and dance performances.

While Bali rests in his heart, New York is his home and Gde combines the two influences in his artwork with vivid color, strong outlines and exuberant energy. His figurative paintings create a fantastical appeal with a subtle sultriness within compositions from mythology, nature and Balinese history. His mastery of line and hues are clearly drawn from his experiences on two continents.

Gde has a contagiously positive personality that is always bursting with fresh ideas. He tells engaging stories and anecdotes about Bali and New York that make his love of both lands evident. With all his attributes combined, becoming a leader in the arts community was the next natural step in his stellar career. He is currently the Director of The Pomona Cultural Center which hosts highly regarded visual art exhibits and a broad array of musical and cultural performances. Gde takes on the role of an art superhero whose mission it is to share the beauty and joy of the arts with everyone he encounters.
