Liminal spaces have been (in)famous online for a long time now, and we love their eerie atmosphere. However, the recent mind-meltingly massive success of the Backrooms movie at the box office has made them more popular than ever.
Bored Panda has adventured through the farthest reaches of the internet to bring you some of the most impressive, creepy, and even disturbing photos of liminal spaces ever captured on camera. Grab your compass and flashlight, and join us as we go deep into parallel realities.

Does Anyone Else Wish To Live In An Indoor Neighborhood?
"The assisted living facility pictured is Lantern of Chagrin Valley in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, one of a trio of properties designed specifically for patients with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The building's interior courtyards and corridors were planned to look like tiny houses with front porches looking out over a golf course."

See, I like this. The building is making use of the space while still preserving the history and bodies beneath. That's far more respectful than just bulldozing it all and (maybe) moving the bodies.

Seattle Ferry At Midnight
There is nothing that will tick you off more than getting on a ferry from Seattle to get back to your car parked in a garage they lock 10 minutes after you arrive, only to hear the ferry captain tell you they're going to wait an extra 20 minutes for those poor poor people (RICH people, unlike us brokeasses who had to work for a living) who were at the game and just can't wait a half hour for the next ferry. I actually had to threaten them that I would make them pay the (then) $120 taxi ride it would cost me to get back home and then back to the ferry the next morning before they would leave on time. It's a ferry and those captains just can't seem to get it through their heads that people actually have schedules they need to keep to. There's enough c**p that happens as it is to keep those ferries from making their schedules without adding to them!

There's nothing like jogging through halls and halls and escalators and elevators and halls in an airport trying to make a connection flight after striking air traffic controls totally fûcked the entire continent, and you know there HAVE to be other people trying to connect to the same major city, but you are going through all those hallways and stairs alone. No one ahead of you. No one behind you. Not even a janitor in sight. The relief when you turn a corner and PEOPLE!

Is It Just Me Or Anyone Else Feel Like This? I Swear I Have Seen This Exact Place In Dreams From Years Ago
As I understand this meme, "liminal" means a space that's neither "here" nor "there". It's on the threshold between them in other words. The movie "Backrooms" (which I haven't seen) is frequently mentioned in the context of this meme. As Maudelin said, quite a few of these spaces do not qualify as "liminal", not as I understand it at least. For more info see Wikipedia: Liminal space
Load More Replies...I've watched a LOT of horror movies. Backrooms was the only one that ever managed to genuinely upset me. In fact I felt physically sick after leaving the cinema. In hindsight it was probably because of my autism; liminal spaces with bright white lighting have always bothered me. Which is strange, because with further hindsight I've been drawn to such places all my life. As a kid I explored mostly deserted sports centres and offices with fascination. More than once. At my old job I loved the scary hidden back corridor with the weird doors that didn't go anywhere. Guess it makes sense that I'm a horror fan, really. I'm fascinated by the things that scare me.
