Not come across that symbol for a fuse before. I assumed it was just a poor rendition of a resistor, which can be drawn as a rectangle with no central line. The fuse symbol I am used to is two circles and diagonal crossing tangents between them.
A resistor is a zig zag squiggle. A fuse can be a rectangle (in the same diagrams that don't represent power sources properly) but is normally a curved squiggle like a S on its side. Your fuse sounds a lot like a switch which does make sense.
