Have you ever gazed into your dog’s eyes and felt a bit like you’re falling in love? There’s actually an explanation for why we feel all mushy when locking eyes with our pooches. It turns out the oxytocin levels, of both humans and dogs, go up when we stare lovingly at each other. In case you’re wondering, oxytocin is also called “the love hormone”. It’s responsible for bonding and attachment. So no, you’re not imagining your heart skipping a beat because of those big, puppy eyes.
We at Bored Panda are suckers for puppy dog eyes, so we spend a fair amount of time scouring the net for dog-related content. We happened to hunt down an Insta account called Woofie.TV. As their bio states, it’s "a happy place for dog lovers”. A wall of wholesome, adorable and hilarious pooch pics.
Keep scrolling for our favorite picks from the page, and remember to upvote the ones that make you want to rush off to cuddle your dog. Don't miss the chat Bored Panda had with expert dog trainer and behaviorist, Susan Bellis.

this person deserves an award. alot of animals that make friends with others in the shelter and get depressed wen their friend gets adopted. most ppl ignore that but the ppl who dont and adopt both deserve awards
Thank you for adopting. Rescues will love you and adore you until they take their last breath.
Oh, he will. Look at the size of those paws!

Good trade. Who can be ignorant and just turn around when there is a poor, help seeking soul? Your friend will be faithful until the last day.
Aww this made me cry happy tears, thank you, I needed that! how sweet! Children and their dog siblings are just amazing.
Nice comment. I LOVE your name, btw. (I'm a Myers's (Jamaican) Rum fan.

Just one of the benefits we can get from owning animals. They can do so much good without even realising just beeing there.
That is absolutely amazing. If you own a dog, you will know what love and someone having your back, no matter what, really is like 🩵🐶🐾🦴
Around 65.1 million U.S. households own at least one dog. And we aren’t really surprised. They’re cute, they’re loyal, they’re funny and they’re affectionate. But you might be surprised to know that they’re also good for you. According to the University of California, dogs “have been proven to reduce stress, anxiety and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise, and improve your overall health.”
Harvard University adds that dog owners have lower blood pressure, healthier cholesterol levels, and a lower risk of heart disease, than those who don’t have furkids. If you’ve never owned a dog before, we highly recommend you try it. And we’re hoping that some of the pictures featured here might just convince you.
Susan Bellis is an expert when it comes to dogs. She's been a trainer and behaviorist for decades. Bored Panda found it fitting that her first dog's name was "Panda", so we just had to reach out to Bellis for some top tips when it comes to adopting, buying or owning a dog.
The expert began by sharing the number one thing she wants all people to know before getting a four-legged friend: "Make sure you have time and patience to train a dog and choose a dog that suits your lifestyle and family. Don't be influenced by emotions or the latest film!"
Ohh...my mom printed this picture out and stuck it under the glass on her dresser. I asked her why and she said it reminded her there are still good people in this world.

There isn’t a dog in any of his wedding pictures that I could find, so I’m going to guess not.

"I got my first rottweiler in 1980 and trained with her at the Meridian Rottweiler in Midrand, South Africa," Bellis told Bored Panda during our chat. "There was not the over-abundance of Rotties, and dogs in general, as there is nowadays. I'm almost ashamed to say now that I did have a litter with my Panda, and it's probably why I ended up with 5 Rotties at one time - all trained!"
Bellis says she's had 12 rottweilers over the years. Either through breeding, rehoming or adoption. "I started my own training school in 1996. To gain more confidence in giving out advice, I took the course through the Ethology College in Pretoria under the guidance of Professor Odendaal, and qualified as a Dog Animal Behaviorist."
When she's not training other people's dogs, or looking after her own, Bellis volunteers at a local animal welfare shelter near her home outside of Cape Town, South Africa. "Maybe because I volunteer at the kennels and people know I work with rescues, I get a lot of perceived 'problem' dogs. I think it is so rewarding to help bring harmony and understanding between family and their dog," she said.
I don't trust people who don't like animals in general. You might not like dogs, fair enough but if they just don't like ANY animal I find that weird.
Load More Replies...One of my old coworkers/employees (I was promoted) went to the same chiropractor as I did. They have a little dog that acts as the unofficial greeter. She came in and I watched Little Dog run out to see who was there, make eye contact, then turn and sprint to the back where she couldn't get him. I know she never did anything to hurt him, but the fact that he ran away from her reinforced my dislike of her.
My dog always barks at the manager of my apt complex.. I know she's never done anything to him, so I don't understand his dislike of her. She's so nice, it makes no sense..
I'm not sure that dogs barking at someone and a more visceral and possibly non-vocal dislike is the same thing. You can tell when an animal really doesn't like someone. The look in their eyes, their body language, look how they hold their tail, how they protect themselves or how aggressive they get in protecting you... Barking is like talking. Dogs bark for all different types of reasons just like people talk for all different types of reasons. Don't assume your dog dislikes the woman. Look for other signs first.

My chow is generally pretty wary around new people to begin with. However, our new neighbor, she WATCHES him. Not the way she watches all new people until she gets used to them, like she would a threat. So yeah, I just avoid him as much as possible.
Bellis says she loves every aspect of running her training school. But volunteering at the animal shelter can be heartbreaking. "Maybe one of the hardest things is when dogs are surrendered and the family do not even give a backward glance," she revealed. "The stress and hurt for the dog is very hard for me."
Around 3,1 million dogs end up in shelters in America every year. The latest data from the Animal Shelters Count shows that almost 212,000 dogs have been euthanized this year alone. Rescuing or adopting a dog from a shelter can be one of the most rewarding experiences, as these people found out. And it's no surprise that Bellis a big advocate for dog adoptions.
I once asked a neighbor about an elderly dog of hers that I hadn't seen for a while. She looked wistful and said "Marlin's become an angel." "He was always an angel" I replied. "All that's changed is that he's finally earned his wings."
This is so true, sometimes my wife and I will decide to grab us a bite out, and leave our Yorkie at home for an hour or so, but; one look at her ears laid back and those beautiful eyes looking at us, well next thing you know we have decided to all go and eat in the truck, so an angel she must be!!

wen i had to b taken to the hospital my dog ran out of the house and jumped into the ambulance. he was a small dog and evaded all the emts attempts to get him out. i remember him jumping on me and biting my hoodie. he wouldnt let go and since he had nasal cancer no one could touch his snout or nose to try and get him to let go. i told them im the only one he allows to touch his nose and snout. the issue was my body was in full paralysis mode bc not only was a stung by a wasp which im allergic to a d my reaction is paralysis but i also had a seizure cuz of my epilepsy at the same time so the emts had no choice but to bring him with us. wat i didnt mention was that if i asked him to let go and say id b ok he wouldve listened and gone back inside. but he was a worry wart in his old age and would howl the whole time i was gone. i didnt want him stressing out at the age of 16. the only time he wasnt laying on me was during a ct scan. he was however in the room with the ct scan tech person. doctors and nurses found his determination to stay with me adorable so they allowed it. he was a cockapoo the size of a bichon so he wasnt in the way of anything. thats probably y they allowed it. ppl sometimes underestimate exactly how much dogs care about their owner. he never left my side. he even ran out of the house a bunch of times and hopped on my school bus trying to go to school with me wen he was younger (back in early 2000s). wen i went to sleep away camp hed sleep on my bed and never left my room unless he had to go outside the whole month i was gone. wen dogs make a connection to their human its unbreakable.
"Only family can see the patients." "Great, just point us to his room!"
I have seen this pic so often but never got an answer for the most important question: Were they reunited with their human?
I'll say it again.. animal love.. there is none better.. none God bless these precious animals..💕💕💕💕
I know there are people who cringe when they hear us refer to our fur friends as family, but come on. How many humans are in the hospital right now with no family or friends visiting, and this guy has four.
We asked Bellis what people should look out for should they decide to adopt a dog. "Never adopt two from the same litter- do not be pressurized into doing so," she warned. "Take into consideration your own life - time, patience, energy. Do not get a dog if the dog is going to be on its own longer than 4 hours (if under 6 months) or 5-6 hours even if an adult. It would be selfish of you and not good for any dog."
If you have your heart set on buying a puppy instead of adopting, you should deal with a reputable breeder. Bellis adds that you should always "ask to see both parents" of the pup and "be very careful of scams".
My grandparents' dog from when I was growing up had a rare blood disease and needed transfusions regularly. Their vet brought in her own dog to donate multiple times and my grandparents' dog lived to be 13 years old (which is higher than average life expectancy for her breed; she was an old English sheep dog and their average lifespan is 10 to 12 years).
My 2 German Shepherds were regular doggie blood doners. Just tell your vet you're willing to help.
My doxie, Oliver, loves stuffed unicorns. We go thru a couple a year.
Whether you're adopting or shopping, there's no shortage of dogs to choose from. The World Canine Organization is an international federation of kennel clubs from 84 countries worldwide. The organization has a list of 360 "officially recognized" dog breeds, while America has 200 recognized breeds. It might sound overwhelming but there are certain breeds that come out tops.
The American Kennel Club releases a list of the most popular dog breeds every year. In 2023, the number one spot went to the fancy French bulldog, while Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds and Poodles also made it into the top five.

French bulldogs are perfect for those who don’t want to spend hours exercising their four-legged friends because these dogs only need around an hour of exercise a day. They’re also small, so they’re perfect for apartment dwellers. “Frenchies are good for family atmospheres. They’re loving, playful and make cute noises,” said Dr. Antonio DeMarco from GoodVets.

The flat-faced dogs don’t bark much, and aren’t big shedders. But if you’re looking to buy or adopt one, you should be aware that they can have trouble breathing. It’s important to keep an eye on them during walks or exercise time. And don’t over-exert them, especially in hot or humid weather.

Animal control and child services often work hand in hand, because yes, if one is being abused, the other one is too.
Load More Replies...When it comes to training and dog ownership, Bellis has seen people make many mistakes. "The most common are people assuming their dog knows something. For example, they haven't taught their pet that a particular sound (word) means an action like 'sit', 'down' or 'come'. They scream 'COME' when their dog is chasing a squirrel, and the dog thinks the person is encouraging them!"
The expert says people also tend to get their animals confused with humans. And expect them to think and act like a person. Then, she says, there are those who "use harsh methods instead of positive reinforcement".

I learned from a dog that if he is running away, to stop and walk in the opposite direction. If you run after the dog, they will think it is a game and will keep running. Pick something up off the ground, a rock, acorn or an imaginary something and be vocal, using words that your pet recognizes as play words and, loud enough that your pet hears you and wants to come and play. If you squat or kneel down, they are more likely to come and investigate.

My dogs were constantly listening to and nuzzling my pregnant belly. My 2 year old female pit mix got very distressed towards the end of my pregnancy, which I did NOT realize had suddenly taken a turn and was going badly. Days before baby stopped moving and I needed an emergency c section, she started ripping her fur out of her legs to the point she created open wounds, she was so very agitated and stressed. When I got home after my short hospital stay, she was back to her normal happy doggo self. We both have scars from that situation. But she's been exceptional with my kiddo for the past decade now.

I found two posts saying it was in Brazil, and google says the writing on the pump is Brazilian Portuguese. I found posts at least as far back as December 2022, and possibly 2020. The story being passed around is that it’s a stray that started living at the gas station, and that the owner adopted it and took it home. What I couldn’t find was any evidence of it anywhere but social media pages and meme sites. So, definitely Brazil, resolved one way or another years ago, but we probably won’t be able to find an authoritative answer.
