Pretty much anything can become material for one of Joseph Nowak’s cartoons. Animals behave according to their own wonderfully questionable logic, everyday expressions are taken a little too literally, familiar characters find themselves in ridiculous situations, and even darker subjects can become the setup for an unexpectedly silly joke. The artist has described his work as “silly,” and that simple word fits his comics surprisingly well. Rather than relying on much dialogue, Nowak often takes an ordinary scenario and changes one small detail until the whole thing becomes absurd.
