Negative stories about a few bad apples in the police force hog the headlines, while the small, everyday heroic acts that officers undertake to keep us safe are often taken for granted. Sometimes we forget what a tough and dangerous job they have, and at the end of the day, they are normal people too!

Civil Forfeiture is legal theft. Research it. They can take large amounts of cash without a crime happening. Don't get caught going to buy a car with a thousand in your pocket or car. They will take it and say you were going to use it to buy drugs. Then you have you have to go to court and fight to get it back. Prove it was yours from legal means.

Legal theft and people are haha-ing it up. It is an awful practice. Parents have lost a home due to a teen selling drugs from it. People traveling with cash have to go to court to and prove where it came from. Even without a criminal charge. Just YouTube watch Civil Forfeiture. John Oliver has a good episode on it. It is a gross act. A government over reach.

My dad was w police on a ride along as a clergyman (ministers/rabbis/imams/priests work w police in certain situations). Dad found a wallet w ID and $500+. Owner had numerous warrants out, didn't come to station to claim his wallet. After 2 weeks, Dad had $500!

The German police can be quite cool. They have an initiative to promote safe, legal aftermarket tuning. At every big car fair and tuning fair they have a tuned police car present to promote that initiative. The initiative has been going since 2005, and they had a new tuned car every year since then. If you Google it some other people also say it means that it's OK to talk about issues of suicide, etc. with them (police). It means you're safe with the person who is making the gesture. Don't know for sure but that's the other explanation I got besides the game.

I think that it shows cops are people too. It is ironic I look at this when the news shows so many protest against police today

I think the prime factor to that is that the news almost only report on the "negative" interactions police have with the general public, so most think that that is the norm among how police act. Yes the news sometimes report on the good ones as well but those are the exceptions, both in the news and in our minds. It's not so different compared to almost any other "group" of people, most reporting and memories are about the "negative" interactions with them.
