I started drawing My Tired Mommy illustrations not long after giving birth to my first son. As a fresh, overwhelmed mom on maternity leave, this was my way to express the struggles, frustrations, absurdity and humor that I often found in many of these new situations.
Sharing these with my friends on Facebook, I received amazing responses from many moms who've been through similar experiences and related to the sentiment. So I decided to make it into a comic strip and publish it regularly in social media.
I often touch those sensitive (sometimes even taboo) topics such as breastfeeding, career life, relationship with spouse, extended family and their holier than thou views on raising a baby, and of course - lack of sleep and its effect on the mind and body.
I hope you will find my illustrations funny and relatable, maybe even annoying. Just remember - we're not perfect. We're mommies!

I can relate to that :) Just have a looooong hot shower. It gets better, I promise!
Or a quality nap. I have to be put into general anesthesia for surgery after two months of having a baby. Honestly I feel so thankful and rested after I came to because of sleep deprivation (I have a toddler and a newborn back then).
Load More Replies...hahaha..sometimes wud be true but two hours is juz too long for me to not see them LOL!
You are so right, if i only knew..
Load More Replies...Too funny and true too. I am not the same, after 2 kids and the pumping :(
Load More Replies...My husband was like that, I had to wake him up and tell him to attend to the baby, that was after almost 3 weeks of very limited sleep. You'd expect that on weekend he'll take over, just to give you a break but oh no, he would sleep soundly, in fact sleep in the second room so that we don't disturb him. I would be really angry and sleep deprived until I decided to give the baby to him by force so that I can sleep. I am ashamed to say he was not that much helpfull. He is the kind of a guy who will not just help until you ask him. But he is the one I chose to marry
Load More Replies...This is so common. I feel like I only made it through this stage because I had to. It sure wasn't fun feeling both exhausted and in a way lonely, because some people expect mothers to just smile over the miracle of this child and cope with everything. Remember that mothers are people too, and just because they might be strong doesn't mean they don't struggle hard.
AMEN!!!! In my house, we both work, and I'm actually the breadwinner if we get right down to it. But I still shouldered the majority of childcare--and to this DAY, my dear husband says, "I don't know unless you tell me--just ask!" Ugh...
Load More Replies...My daughter used to give me kicks in the head at night .... Chuckeline Norris
"You don't know how to do" is not really helping men to feel responsible. If you feel it's unbearable, get out and let him deal with it. He'll have to find a way.
But also very true. Sometimes you think the fathers do it on purpose.....
Load More Replies...Lol, I am a grandma and I did the same last weekend while babysitting my grandchild. Unfortunately, I didn't have this nice baby carrier so I still have a lame arm :)
Ha ha..next time take a carrier(:
Load More Replies...It's just how having children feels some times. Parents are tried and sometimes they feel trapped and overwhelmed. I think we are all disturbed by it because we always see parents on instagram and tv and in movie and in commercials that are happy all the time. It's like marriage; it can't all be bliss.
Load More Replies...I don't get this one....I don't have children but I can at least understand the others this went over my head
Until she goes back to work and can go to the toilet alone.
Load More Replies...I understand, because this is the reality. Of course you love them above all, just keep in mind that you can't just rest or sleep when you are tired or sick. Even when you feel like you can't even take care of yourself properly, or you just feel completely drained, you have to take care of someone else too. Nobody could have prepared me for how hard that part would be. But of course it's not exactly same for all, many have family and friends helping them which I think is the ideal when having kids.
Load More Replies...very true and relatable. And yet so much joy at the same time. It's really hard to explain to people who don't have children how you can be tired and very happy, fretful and joyful and anxious at the same time all the time! You can't unmix it.
I had postpartum depression and even though I loved my baby fiercely, there was no joy at all.
Load More Replies...So tired of Dads being treated as stupid and a bad parent. This thinking is so dated. By not dumping on the dads, it doesn't take away from the struggles and challenges of being a mom. Being a Mommy is tough and wonderful, no doubt. Parenting is hard, challenging, and pretty awesome for all parents.
Remember that when you hear any men refer to watching their own kids as "babysitting."
Load More Replies...Everytime I see these it's-so-hard-to-be-parent cartoons I hope people don't really regret it and just think it's not funny to write about the good times
Well. Ask again in about 20 years. I can tell it yet.
Load More Replies...I've really got to stop reading these sorts of posts - our first is due in June, and I think I really want to enjoy these last few months in blissful ignorance... :D
Haha! These things are very common, but you could be the lucky parents who have it a bit easier. Actually not all new parents have absolute "chaos" and are seriously sleep deprived, but then you might feel a bit suspicious instead haha! This was the case with a friend of mine, her kid slept through the night from day one so they had to wake him up to feed him. Good luck and don't assume the worst 🙂
