Sweet but ferocious. The internet is obsessed with dachshunds all of a sudden and it’s barktastic. These tiny wiener dogs are gorgeous, fun to look at, but… some owners suggested that they get aggressive if you even remotely threaten (i.e. get near) their loved ones. Or do anything else innocent to set them off.
It’s none other than comedian and author Sarah Cooper that we have to thank for the flood of information and hilarious anecdotes about sausage dogs. Her thread on Twitter went viral and people had a lot of fun sharing what it’s like to actually own a small yet fearsome doggo. Check out some of the most hilarious responses below and upvote the tweets that you liked the most.
The friendly team at the PDSA, the UK's leading vet charity, was kind enough to help us out with some great insights about dachshunds, how to care for them and their long backs, as well as how to help temper their temper if they have one. PDSA vet Anna Ewers Clarke explained to Bored Panda that the breed, while popular for their faces and fun-loving personalities, has a higher risk of back issues because of their elongated backs. Do they have a label to indicate which variety they are? (Like when you buy a plant before the flower bud opens, so you want to know what colour it is.)

This reminds me a story from my childhood. I used to be deadly afraid of dogs. One day, me and my dad were on a walk and we met a teeny tiny Chihuahua who started to bark at us viciously. I was hid behind my dad but the dog kept bothering us so my dad barked back at it. The Chihuahua jumped half a meter and ran back to its owners with this "Oh crap, oh crap" look. They were also laughing btw.

The mini Doxies were bred to hunt small animals such as squirrels and mice. Mine is a murderous thug that likes to kill baby bunnies.

Had a neighbor whose toddler was chasing my minpin. She asked me" Does she bite?" My answer, "All small dogs bite, but don't worry because the kid will never catch her." If you have kids keep this in mind. A toddler won't hurt a big dog like an English Sheepdog by being too rough, but they will hurt a small dog... And the small dog is going to react to that the way dogs always react to something causing them pain.

I have a rescued dachsund mix. Supposedly a chihuahua/dachsund pairing. He was practically insane and horribly aggressive when my roommate brought him home. She claimed she paid $800 to adopt him from a rescue and all I could think was puppy mill. Eventually his aggression was too much for her and she gave him to me when I moved. Seven years and a ton of intensive training later he's a much calmer dog. That being said he's ridiculously aggressive toward other dogs, very defensive of strangers if I don't introduce them, and can't stand children. Though thankfully I've trained him out of biting people. I personally think his lack of socialization and training as a pup resulted in an anxious and aggressive animal. Dogs need structure or they can become fearful and/or aggressive. My dog no longer bites at the drop of a hat but I still practice caution and don't allow him close contact with dogs or any contact with children. Though this year he made his biggest step and accepted my new room

mates dog with minimal drama. They're best friends now. Though we keep them separate at feed times.

I want to adopt one...but with 2 cats with strong personality I know that its going to be impossible...So I will keep looking into your fur baboes and take pleasure on that! I would love to have a dog tho!For now I am keeping myself happy with my 2 beautiful cats and maybe one day I will have the luck to find one! Love all your puppies!

My dachshunds got along fine with cats... And birds... And hamsters. Squirrels, not so much.
