Adoption Post Honestly Lists Everything That’s Wrong With This Demonic Chihuahua And It Goes Viral

Honesty is the best policy—even when it comes to animal adoption ads! A dog named Prancer is enjoying mega internet fame after the woman fostering him published an honest Facebook post about the Chihuahua. Instead of highlighting just his positive traits to get him adopted quicker, Tyfanee Fortuna was blunt about what a truly life-hating creature Prancer is.
And the internet loved it! The post was refreshing, witty, and quickly went viral on social media. The Chihuahua, who has been described as demonic, a gremlin, and a traumatized Victorian child, is currently being temporarily looked after by Tyfanee for the Second Chance Pet Adoption League in New Jersey. You know, until he finds a loving forever home he can hate with his entire tiny being.
Stephanie Pearl, the President of the Second Chance Pet Adoption League, told Bored Panda that there have been “hundreds of emails and offers to adopt” Prancer. However, so far, not many people have followed through with sending back their applications. That’s great news for any of you Readers who have half a mind to adopt Prancer! Read on for the rest of our interview with Stephanie.

Stephanie revealed to Bored Panda that they’ve had applications from all over the US and, indeed, the entire world. However, the organization plans to keep him local to New Jersey. “It’s important that his adopter meet and bond with him, possibly several times, and that we can be accessible for follow-up support as he settles in if needed. We have had lots of people who sound like wonderful homes for a dog but have other pets, men, kids, or not the right environment in the house for him and we are looking for the right permanent fit and an experienced dog person that understands how to work with him,” the President of the Second Chance Pet Adoption League told Bored Panda.
According to her, the organization has “many” pets that have a hard time finding a forever home. “We are a small rescue but our focus is on helping local small dogs most in need—those that don’t do well in shelters or need a bit of extra time, training, and rehab and sometimes medical care to help to prepare them for adoption,” the head of the organization said.
Creativity always helps when helping an animal find a new family
“Sometimes, you have to get creative to get them noticed, and his foster mom did an amazing job with that hilarious well-written post!” she praised Tyfanee. “Besides, the ones with ‘delightfully quirky’ personalities like Prancer our other specialty is seniors, hospice, and medical special needs. We like a challenge and knowing we can help and understand those that others can’t.”
Currently, the Second Chance Pet Adoption League has around 20 dogs in all kinds of foster homes. The non-profit organization has been running ever since 1983. “Our founder, Diane Becker, ran the rescue until she passed away in 2009 and started it to help reduce local shelters’ euthanasia and help dogs who had no other options. We adopt out about 200 dogs per year, most of them small and would be considered ‘less adoptable’ due to age, medical, and/or behavior. We are committed to making sure our dogs find the best possible matches so that they and their adopters can enjoy happy lives together,” Stephanie shared.
The volunteers are hoping Prancer’s story will get more dogs adopted
Stephanie told Bored Panda that everyone at the Second Chance Pet Adoption League is “thrilled” that Prancer’s story has gone global and they all hope that it inspires many other dogs to be adopted. “Chihuahuas are the second most euthanized breed of dogs across the country in shelters (after Pit Bulls, another horribly abused and misunderstood breed),” Stephanie shared the harrowing reality. “Their tiny size and Hollywood has made them popular and people get them to dress up and carry around like a stuffed animal, often not understanding they have special training and emotional needs and then discard them when they develop ‘issues’ like Prancer.”
According to Stephanie, Chihuahuas aren’t for everyone. “But those who love them and know the right way to work with them can attest that they are hilarious loving companions with the right people. If you are adopting a dog, research first and make sure you are committed to them for life! Every breed has different needs, and every individual dog of that breed has their own unique personality, and while they are in rescue we live with them and get to know their individual likes and dislikes and see the good and bad in them so we can know how best to make them happy and what type of permanent home they will thrive in.”
Having a sense of humor is vital in the rescue world
As for the witty and quirky Facebook posts, Stephanie was up-front that having a sense of humor is an absolute must in the animal rescue world. It helps prevent burning out. “It’s been so much fun to see how many people got the ‘joke’ and have relayed stories of their own similar Chihuahuas and connected with this little guy, seeing their dogs (and sometimes themselves!) in his description. One person’s ‘trash’ is another’s treasure, and a ‘problem’ dog like Prancer may have been a terror and inconvenience in the wrong home but instead, he’s bringing joy to millions and hopefully the right person very soon!”

The Second Chance Pet Adoption League is an all-volunteer foster-based organization that’s located in Morriss Plains, New Jersey. If you’re a fan of what they do, you can support them however you’re able to: they’re always in need of adopters, foster homes, and various donations, from funds and food to toys and bedding.
50 percent hate and 50 tremble? That’s Prancer all right (and a 100 percent reason to remember the name)—a walking, barking internet stereotype of what Chihuahuas are like that turned out to be true.
Prancer was apparently never socialized by his previous owner, which actually makes sense as to why he hates the world so much. He appears to only tolerate women, but absolutely loathes men and other animals. However, Prancer appears to tolerate Tyfanee’s many other pets that she keeps at home. He also has never met a kid, so he really isn’t a family-friendly pet.
Apparently, Prancer is very loyal, however, he’s also a huge coward. So if you get into trouble, you can’t rely on him for protection, either.
The two-year-old dog enjoys car rides, is housebroken, and has to be put away like a vacuum if you plan to have company over. He’s still looking for a person or a family to take him in that doesn’t include men, children, or other pets. Sounds like a difficult companion to have in your life, but a companion nonetheless.

We rescued a chihuahua like this one time. Her name was Woogie and grown 6ft + men would cower to her. She only loved the family but not my son! She would try and attack him everyday. We had to put her away of people came over. She would act like she wanted to be your friend then attack. She was so sweet to me, my mom and my daughter. We had to put her down during pandemic. :(

Chihuahua's are great! Such compact, tiny, trembling little demons! My chihuahua is well socialized, but is still a hateful little s**t. When I started dating my boyfriend, he (chihuahua) straight up ignored him and pretended like he didn't exist for about 6 months. Then one day he was like "ok. I like you" and now my boyfriend is the favorite. Everything has to be on their terms. Life wouldn't be nearly as comical without my little bug!

Man, boyfriends and chihuahuas do not coexist, I also tried to introduce a boyfriend to mine a while ago. My chihuahua acted somewhat cordial at first. Not really friendly, but not really hateful either. Later, we were hanging out on my couch when my dog walked into the room. He then proceeded to make direct eye contact with my boyfriend, pop a squat, and then pee literally all over the floor. At that point he was completely housebroken, and had been outside only a few hours before. He knew exactly what he was doing. The little bastard is sleeping next to me on the couch right right now. He is 80% spite and pretty much hates everyone and everything except for me and family, but he's the best little dog I could ever ask for.

Good example of what happens when puppies are not socialized and trained properly. Not the dogs fault. Stupid people. Spending time with a pack of larger well trained dogs would help him see and learn normal dog behavior, too.

One of my friends has a dog who loves people, but is not easy to train. As a puppy, he spend the Christmas holidays with a slightly bigger adult dog and became a bit better mannered.

I was given a chihuahua by a couple that had to move and couldn't take him with them. He was my baby. He was hit by a car w them as a puppy so he had some health problems too. He only liked me and my daughter and my other dog that came w him. He was attached to me and would howl if he couldn't see me. He was bossy grumpy and stinky but my god I loved him so much. He passed away a year and a half ago and I'm tearing up writing this. I hope prancer finds his perfect family bc I know whoever adopts him will love him so much.

I feel so sad for little dogs like that. My former neighbour had one. Kept it indoors, never walked it. It would bark it's head off if you passed her unit on your way to the garbage bins. My cats got more leash walks in one summer month than that dog got in the three years she lived there.

Chichis are a species (not just a breed) unto themselves. No two are alike. As with humans, they have more diverse traits than similarities to each other. And... I LOVE THEM and their individuality!! Clear and honest information -- avoiding pre-conceived breed expectations that usually aren't met in the end -- is the key to finding forever homes for these unique characters. I wish I was located on the East Coast so I might be considered for adoption by Prancer. But I am certain He will find the perfect female(s) and his forever home very soon.

Look... chihuahuas are all this and more, but their personalities far outshine their problems. We had 2, one being almost 20, and she was neurotic, hated everything, and she would bite you till you bled at least once a month. She was spoiled rotten, with for the last year we pushed her on a walk in a stroller, and hand fed her whatever she wanted. Peaches was never a good eater, unless it came to human flesh. She did try to protect us from a kelpie we were playing with; through a door and running in the opposite direction whilst barking and trembling. Yes, she was far, far, far from perfect, but aren’t most humans?I wish this pup best of luck, as well as those who adopt this trembling ball of anger.

My sister has a half chihuahua/corgi mix, who we believe at some point was a rescue. His name is Finnegan. I have owned many dogs in my lifetime, and definitely subscribe to the idea that "there is no such thing as a bad dog". However, like Prancer, Finnegan is simply the angriest, bitter, detestable animal I have ever come into contact with. I try with him, I really do. He absolutely hates me though, and while I don't "hate" him, his feelings of strong dislike for me have become mutual. He hates virtually everything else on the planet aside from my sister (who is way too much of a softy to properly and diligently train a dog). He also has the most brutally abrasive, earsplitting, terrible little bark (more of a cross between a howl and a screech really) that I have ever heard from a dog. He is scared of literally everything including his own shadow, and will bite anyone who comes near him or my sister when he is in a bad mood. When he's in a "good" mood, he snarls and growls. DEMON.

I have to admit, I kind of want to adopt him! Fortunately for me I am on the wrong continent, I live with my father, we have a parade of (mostly male) carers in and out of the house, and we have a dog. So I am completely and utterly unsuitable in so many ways. I hope someone finds their perfect dog in this little bundle of neuroses and teeth,

I had a tiny 2 lb chihuahua with color dilute alopecia, an improperly healed broken leg and horrible teeth. She survived on table scraps and hate. She refused to eat decent dog food. Such things were beneath her. She bit everyone. Me included. Her vet was afraid of her and she refused to be housebroken. I was convinved she was going to live forever just to spite us, but she tragically? dove for a piece of dropped food in the same instant as our German shepherd. The German shepherd just happened to catch her neck with a tooth in the most gruesome freak accident I've ever witnessed. It was truly awful and has definitely scarred me for life. I immediately grabbed her because, horrible as she was, she was still my dog and I DID love her, but there was nothing I could do. And for anyone wondering, there had never been any previous altercations between the two. She literally dove into the other dog's mouth. It was insane. I guess even her exit had to be dramatic.
