Husband Notices There’s Something Not Right About The House His Wife Wants To Rent, Stops Her Before It’s Too Late
If you’ve watched a couple of horror movies, you surely can recognize some of the telltale signs that things are just not going to end well. And it’s more than frustrating when characters in scary films are completely oblivious to the key cues and situations that eventually lead to their demise. Unfortunately for this clueless woman, her senses were blinded by porcelain bathtubs and hardwood flooring.
Last May, Olivia A. Cole, a 37-year-old author from Louisville, Kentucky, shared her hilarious cautionary tale on Twitter where it went viral with over 30k likes and shares. The author recalled a story when she and her husband went house-hunting and ended up being shown around one particular “cute bungalow.” We all know what it’s like when you really like a place, you immediately begin to imagine where all your stuff will go, how nice the fireplace is and oh! We could make a little vegetable garden in the back yard! The negative aspects, like the fact that it may have been the scene of multiple heinous crimes, are conveniently overlooked.
Inside the house, it seemed like all the well-known horror tropes unfolded into many tiny red flags, but Cole pokes fun at herself for being “that white woman” from horror movies that is utterly unaware of the signs of “devil’s handiwork.” Her creative use of GIFs add to a very modern form of storytelling, and the tale unfolds in such a way as to keep you scrolling to the very end.
Scroll down below to read her full story and you will know what warning signs to look out for on your next house hunting quest!

Share on FacebookI suspect it was an old prison house and either the agent didn't tell them, or she was ignorant and didn't research info about the place she was offering to her clients. I'd rent the house for like, a month, just to find out where the goddamn door went.
Load More Replies...I would have liked to see photo's of the mentioned creepy doors, rooms and windows! That would have made the story more exciting than the gifs.
Load More Replies...The most I got out of this story was that you're a white woman- because you repeated it 8,000 times. Point is?
She wanted to say that her husband is black but is too afraid to look kinda racist
Load More Replies...It's a common horror movie stereotype. The black or mixed people want to get out of the house but the white people are oblivious and/or want to fight the evil and then many people die.
Load More Replies...There should have been some photographs of the place.. and a background story of the house would have been more convincing..
A safe assumption is that this is just a story she posted to be all witty with the memes.
Load More Replies...I don't know what her being white had to do with anything. And all of the GIFs made me think it was posted by a 14 year old.
There actually is a fake photo to go with this fake story. The link to this story on the Bored Panda homepage has a photo of a house from the TV series American Horror Story.
Load More Replies...Apparently I'm the dumb white woman because I would LOVE to know where this house is.... plus if it IS haunted I bet you would get a GREAT deal on the rent!!!
Me too, Taryn! I thought it was funny and I am white! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Horrors! LMAO
Load More Replies...Because Losinger is right on this one too I hate to say. Bored Panda is working my last nerve. Most of their stories are culled from the rest of the internet, five year old stories or they're made up. This is really the new click bait because most people have gotten too smart. I come here mainly because I enjoy the commentary of many of these people so I guess I don't care that much. That's kind of starting to be my opinion anyway. I'm not sure if I'm right or not but I'm starting to think that.
Load More Replies...Oh for goodness sake. The grate was old, that's why it had thick iron bars. The little door in the closet was probably extra more secretive storage place for valuables or money (I could see that being important to someone in the olden days). The door in the basement: they didn't explain whether the basement was o the same level as the back yard (unless I missed that?) but I'd assume it's not? Perhaps the door opens to a stairway that runs the length of the wall to open up to a door on the opposite corner in the back yard. That would also explain why one had a window and one didn't. The house probably could've been perfectly charming on a sunny day and a nice place to live.
Exactly. It's not rare or weird for really old houses to have hidden storages or pathways. It was the only way to keep yourself and your important stuff safe in an emergency way back. My apartment isn't even that old and we have a hidden safe inside the main bedroom's built in wardrobe that probably looks exactly like that little door.
Load More Replies...How is being white relevant? We get it, you're white, but that has nothing to do with ignoring creepy s**t. I'm sick of this "I'm white, and I'll put myself down in front of everyone because it's the right thing to do" virtue signalling b******t.
TheKnightOwl, perhaps because in a lot of the horror movies, white women seem to be the center of stories/movies like this and it's a damn joke. God, you people have NO sense of humor. Why are you even HERE? Go read about the gassing of the people in Syria, maybe that'll spark your interest. smh
Load More Replies...Everything about this bothers me. The lack of a story by a supposed "author", the pathetic use of memes to explain every simple emotion listed and seem hip to all the kids, and above all, repeatedly making sure everyone knows you're white, as though that had ANY BEARING on the story at all. This is the piece of trash at the top of Garbage Mountain.
This was boring. So this is about a boring woman and her boring house hunt ultimately. OoooO she saw *wEiRd* things.Tee-hee look how white and ditzy someone can be 🙄
She was probably right ultimately. If they have moved in I bet they would've figured out all the "mysteries" within in a day and it would've been a perfectly fine place to live.
Load More Replies...Wow...this sounds like great material to start with, but it is a terrible rambling narrative! Terrible! Rewrite and edit...edit...edit.
No, I thought they made it funnier, but that's just me. Apparently a lot of the people who are on this website act like they have a corncob up the behind. This thread of comments is a bazillion times worse than the article and I'm sick of reading all these crappy complaining posts. Get a grip people and laugh. It'll do you some good.
Load More Replies...i grew up in a home with a secret door to a secret room. also had lots of crawl space between the walls. never a dull moment growing up there. i miss it and would love to live in this house. older houses have much more character than these new flashy homes today
I would’ve liked to have heard the “rest” of the story.....where DID those doors go? What IS the history of the house?! Can the author go back and take another tour please.... and be thorough!
I just wish they'd had photos of the actual house and doors, instead of those awful tacky GIFs.
I am from Louisville originally. Would LOVE to know where this is! Many unexplained happenings in the entire city, with the flu that killed so many from WWI, and of course Waverly Hills. We have much to "offer", lol...
Have to say, if it has a basement and an upstairs, then it isn't a bungalow. A bungalow has only one floor. I know because I live in one.
I am tired of these inarticulate meanderings followed by a slew of irritating, repetitive, OLD memes. COME ON!!
I don't understand what the big deal is. These aren't uncommon features for an older house. Honestly, I would totally love to rent that place! It would be fun to mess with your friends, and all of the "creepy" features just make it awesome! I wouldn't be surprised if it had a really cool history, too.
Sounds like an opportunity for an adult. These kids watched to much ghost hunting shows.
If I had the money, I would buy the house just to knock down that door - well, I would have someone else knock down that door LOL
I wonder what was bevind the locked door, really curious about it! If anyone knows something please tell me!!!
Well; I would be this dumb, white woman... I surely would rent the house, but not despite the door, but because the door!!!

Sorry, but this story was stupid, ridiculous and a waste of time. Just another white person trying to act like they know their race makes them dumb because they're "one of the good ones". The story was pointless and boring. Didn't even tell if it had been an old prison/torture house or whatever. Not to mention there are tons of old houses with extra doors.
The most I got from this is your a white woman if you want to seem more mature them freakin stop using Im a white woman its annoying
Her husband was like "yeah I've seen this shot, the black guy ALWAYS gets killed first, FTS!"
WTH.... I was reading this hoping there was going to be a conclusion to what was behind all these locked doors and weird grates, then nothing. WTF why wouldn't you look and insist about knowing?
You've all heard of 'Flowers in the Attic'? New book coming called Prisoners in the basement! lol
Your DUMB A*S is a RACIST. You DUMB NEGRO what is your point? Your story is YAWN!!
Wow--the racism was so subtle in this piece. It slid right past the author and BP's editors (if any). So can I now write the same sort of piece and just substitute "black" for "white"?
seriously, where do the doors go? IM CURIOUS!!!!!! WE NEED TO KNOW. you cant just leave us hanging here y'know! -__- :(
I'm all like amazed that she's like able to make a living with the whole like writing thing. Unless all her like characters are like valley girls or the like...
Good reason for bi-racial marriages. I’m sure two white people rented the Devil house and are paying dearly for their choice. I don’t mean cash either.
The house I grew up in was at the SE corner of the West Seattle Golf Course. Empty lot behind us and across the street (sideways). We had a HUGE backyard that led into the alley that went down to Longfellow Creek. After cutting down some blackberry brambles, we came across this "never before seen" slab of cement embedded in the far corner of the yard. It was most definitely a door of some sort & creepy as hell. It had this huge iron door-pull like thing in the middle of it. We were scared out of our wits, thinking it was some sort of "torture dungeon" or something. As adults, we realized it was probably a bomb shelter from the 60's. It's long been rumored that the land the West Seattle Golf Course is built upon was once Native American land (well honestly, wasn't it ALL once upon a time?), but this is supposedly a burial site. I'm not sayin' I agree or disagree with that particular theory, but we had some seriously "other worldly s**t" go in at that place.
Oh bull... dont quit your day job to become any kind of an author....
I was thinking of Eddie Murphy's bit about the movie Poltergeist as I read this. I was quite pleased with myself when I read her husband is black, "Too bad we can't stay baby." For y'all who don't know the bit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InLfUMjyKNo
ok, the door in the closet is to the crawlspaces. they can be fairly large in some older homes. Mine was big enough that I used to hang out back there with maybe 1-3 friends (that's all that could fit really)and smoke weed. my crib was stored in there.
I expected to read that the couple did a search and found something out bout the house that was gruesome. But no. It was essentially a pointless story about a woman who puts herself down, over and over, for being a Caucasian. Stop beating yourself up, lady. And hey, it's okay to be white.
Your frequent references to your "white a*s" tells me you have some sort of underlying emotional issues. I'm praying for you.
I wasn't able to read the "story" but I very much enjoyed reading the comments - genuinely funny and interesting (unlike the devil nonsense from what you've all said!)
I would dearly love to borrow her husband to go house-hunting with me!
So, when you were in the back yard, and looked through the window into the basement, the locked door on the opposite wall was not there???
I would LOVE to live in a spooky haunted devil house! I want PROOF damn it!!
What the hell does this have to do with being white? I find it offensive that you seem to associate vapid, clueless and easily fooled with " white female" If youd said you were a black woman lured by a watermelon patch...😒
So funny! My Italian husband would have been out the door and waiting in the car, pissed off because I was still looking around.
So there was a door...so they didn't get what sounds like a really nice house? And what is it with her repeating that she is a dumb white woman who likes pretty houses? Isn't it more idiotic to think that a house is haunted based off of what movies tell you you should be afraid of?
Cale Erendreich, Bad Samaritan. David Tennant might have been in that basement....
I knew the story would end before the interesting parts paid off, but I read it anyway...
Fake. The link to this story on the Bored Panda homepage has a photo of a house from the TV series American Horror Story.
So you truly are so stupid that you don't understand what a stock photo is, huh? Man, I knew you were dumb, but this is impressive.
Load More Replies...IDK why skin colour was mentioned as if it was as important as the hellhouse but oh well...
Honestly i was expecting that the agent was gonna be like, "Oh and also someone was murdered here" or something. Literally all the things they were creeped out about are normal in old houses. I used to live in an old farm house we rented and yes, the bars are to keep the ac in place, the little room in the closet is probably a trunk space because people used to keep their clothes in a really big trunk. (That's what the mini room inside my closet was anyways) and the bolted door probably went to a pantry or cellar.
Just read some comments and wonder, how the hell did this story get to be so f- g racist? It seems to be the theme these days to further divide and conquer and those of you who fall for it have a questionable mentality and need to grow up and become adults. Enough of this BS.
I'm an amateur lock smith, I would have popped open the first few locks to see if the agent started freaking out.
Wow. The headline intrigued me since I like mystery, but then that happened. Um.
Look at all the white people who want to know where the door goes Olivia. Tell your husband we are a hopeless species. They probably wanna go check out the attic filled with trunks full of curses, hexes, and butcher knives too.
... all I got was there are some creepy dark rooms in an old house. One was locked tight.. probably some old storage area. No actual evidence of paranormal or creepy individuals.
As an INCREDIBLY curious and reckless person who's drawn to danger, I would have bought the house just to see where things went from there.
Wanted to see pictures of the house instead of random useless GIFs, but the pictures never appeared.
Wow...I mean wow! I guess I'm not the only one who could've overlooked a "devil door" for a claw-foot tub and a nice yard!
Unfortunatly I probably would have been the person that rents the house and opens the satan doors because i now need to know whats inside.
OK story to tell in a bar over a few pints. For the whole world to see? Probably not.
I would have made an offer to BUY rather than rent! (Oh, and would have started searching on Google for an exorcist, just in case.) I'd love to own a place with secret places, and I'd take ownership of those secrets.
What has the fact that you are white got to do with anything at all? This lady has issues.
My problem is I need to know what the hell!!! What happened in that house!!!! Someone needs to call paranormal investigator. The one where they lock themselves in for a few days!!!! I need answers
Are we sure there were no people locked up in this house? There were a lot of signs of trafficking. This is awful.
I'm sure the agent knew the entire history of the house. He's looking for a paycheck so lies through his teeth. Better to burn down the remnants of evil.
Haven't you ever heard that line before? It's from something....I can't remember what though. I'M not saying it. I don't even believe in Satan.
