Hi there! My name is Jasmine, and I’m ̶w̶e̶i̶r̶d̶ an artist.
I guess I’m a ‘Jack of all trades’ sort of artist- I’m a painter, a makeup artist, a bodypainter and photographer all rolled into one. A bit like a creative piece of sushi.
I’ve always been creative, ̶s̶e̶n̶s̶i̶t̶i̶v̶e̶,̶ ̶a̶ ̶p̶a̶i̶n̶t̶e̶r̶ (Cell Block Tango anybody? No?). Nostalgic memories of being in my grandparents living room, sat at my drawing table and attempting to facepaint myself at the age of 4 (photographic proof below 😶). Fast forward a few years to 20 year old me in 2017, still doing the same thing, loving life at London Excel.
Most of my makeup looks/bodypainting, I do on myself using a wide range of products (makeup/bodypaint/accessories /headdresses etc.). Whilst with my paintings, I tend to use acrylic paint and paint on canvas (as opposed to skin hehe).
I don’t create works focusing on any one thing in particular, I tend to stray towards things that I have been inspired by, things that capture my attention or I channel the mood I feel in that moment.
For the past few years, I’ve been uploading images and videos to my social media platforms, documenting stages of my arty ventures- whether that be me sharing new makeup looks and latest pieces of work, filming myself working/renting space in a gallery, or working alongside fellow creative people at events around England.
Sharing my work over the years, I’ve been asked a variety of questions- some more than others…
I’m often asked;
“How long do your bodypaints/facepaints take?”
Answer: I do everything in one sitting and they can take anywhere from 1 hour to 12 hours, anything in between or either side (so specific). It really depends on the individual look, how I’m feeling, whether I did an initial plan or whether I come up with the look there and then etc.
“What inspires you?”
Answer: Anything. As vague as that is haha. Things that captivate me, things that evoke an emotional response, or things that I feel would challenge me. I paint a lot of eyes (not entirely sure why- like I say, I’m weird). I enjoy creating works that are moody and spooky looking- but later that day I might decide to draw a puppy eating a rainbow (not quite, but you get the gist).
“How do you paint yourself?”
Answer: A mirror and a few low key contortionist skills. Granted, I never paint my full body, just my chest- either way, when you’re right handed and need to paint your right shoulder, you gotta be part Betty Spaghetti.
“Do you do this full time?”
Answer: Not currently, it’s more of a hobby than anything- although I do hope to at some point in the future.
To be completely honest, I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing, how to get to certain places or where I’m going to end up, I’m just going along with it (story of my life 😂).
If you want to join me on my arty journey, add me on Instawtitter, Youface, Twittergram and Tubebook.
