This is a photo-series which I did on women wrestlers in Rohtak,Haryana,India.There are many Indian girls who are undergoing an inexplicable pain having been born in a male-dominated society. However, there are brave souls who chose not to be shattered by such power structure but to stand up and prove their worth. These bravado have won numerous laurels for the country and continue to do so.In a state like Haryana where the female sex ratio is low as compared to other Indian states, women toil hard for their survival. These ladies have shown remarkable talent in various sports including wrestling; in fact they have won accolades for the country. Women wrestlers are of the belief that ‘wrestling is not just a sport but a statement for survival’. Things are not easy for the ones engaging in sports activity,more so after being born in villages which are disconnected from easy-comfortable life lacking proper sports’ infrastructure. These women have to travel miles to practice in order to keep pace with their counterparts, with an objective of making our country proud in international sports. For them, life is all about surviving and they are ready to face the harsh challenges in
order to make a mark.
