Dad Of A 3-Year-Old Illustrates The Joys And Difficulties Of Parenting On Your Own
Forgive me for the cliché, but children do grow up so fast. And parents usually document their precious moments by taking pictures or shooting video, but one single dad from Taiwan has his own method of making sure he remembers what it's like raising kids.
To capture the joys and difficulties of parenting he faces in his everyday life, Lan Shengjie (aka BLUE) is illustrating them. "I have been working as a freelance artist since 1999," BLUE told Bored Panda. "I started this cartoon drawings series right after my child was born in 2014." Recently, Sharp Point Press has even published it.
"When you have a kid, a lot of things happen unexpectedly. However, as I started drawing the surprising moments we shared as father and son, I didn't think these cute drawings would get such a hugely positive response."
BLUE said he's usually rushing through his beautiful drawings since he's always taking care of his boy. "I hope that my child can grow up in a safe and healthy environment," he added. "I worry about him becoming a hooligan or anything else that can go wrong along the way. That's why I always try to accompany him as he's growing up and help him when I can."

when I see stuff like this with a woman and baby, it seems normal and i don't think anything of it. When it is a man and baby, the first thing I think of is "Where's mama?"Dead? Divorced and left her baby to dad? Maybe he is the at home parent? what?
I remember my husband bringing home a huge cardboard box and cutting it up for our daughter to play in.
My real time work with facebook Im making over $2000 a month operating low maintenance. I continued hearing distinctive people divulge to me how an lousy lot cash they can make on line so I selected to research it. All topics considered, it become all legitimate and has without a doubt changed my life. For more statistics visit below site HERE☛..................www.jobsish.com
Freaking cute~ especially that they got the water gun. Idk bout you guys but one of my fave things growing up was when I'd sneak into the shower or bath with my mom. Kids don't sexualize things, so why should us adults? Granted nowadays parents prolly wear swim trunks or underwear just to keep others from thinking their pedos....
Yup, been there, done that... like 20 times a day (mom a of crazy toddler here) :D
This is so like my daughter stepping on my head to climb something... To get food😂😂
This is so true lol Both my littles did this to me and sometimes still do, ouch!
😂 Cheeky little rascal. That must have been embarrassing for the dad
Lol, I see him reaching into his coat pocket for candy... I'm judging yippy see something else XD
Load More Replies...I get that à lot from my lol daughter. When she gets mad, she goed under my dress and grabs my leg... Since she's short
So true....whenever my preschooler has to have violent diarrhea, it's always in the public washrooms at the mall! Oh man the sounds......we get comments from other stall inhabitors cheering him on lol
Ah, the potty training. So tough to go through and so wonderful after it is over.
Electricity is expensive in asia so people dry their clothes on the balcony, which is sometimes closed in for winter drying.
That's the father; still feeling like a kid himself, but he has to be in control and act like he's an adult now.
Load More Replies...The concept is more of the toddler is the dad's boss, in a fun way.
Load More Replies...Thought provoking. He is both “in his father’s head” and seeing through his father’s eyes.
this terrifies me. I was carrying my baby niece like this one fine day but then it decided to storm. it's a really scary when you felt the instinct to run quickly to shelter but you don't want to shake the baby too much. I never got the courage to carry another baby anymore, I don't want to cause them any hurt.
Yes. Legos Hurt SO MUCH. My foot would find one after the infant was asleep and I was tucking in the 5 year old. Muffling scream!! Don't.Wake.baby.
I'm able to relate my sisters have them all over the floor. (Lego's cars, ect.)
What is beautiful here is dad's focus: He could crash the boy's complex landscape but instead he does some (near-silent) tai-chi!
Sam W that is true but I wouldn't advise it and MammaG true also
S-sorry, Jimmy's a bit naughty, he didn't mean to disturb you. But hey, I was wondering... Are you... Are you free tonight?" This is how love begins...
You are right-I am the oldest of my 8 year old brother and 2 year old sister. My dad said I was the only one that I would let him read to me because my other siblings didn't like it.Know reading is on of the best things I am good at.
Load More Replies...My favorite. Love the subject, the colors, the perspective, the intimate mood.
I had to invest in rip-proof books until my daughter was old enough to know better. And now my daughter is going through the same thing with her sons.
Man my toddler will kick and scream like we're murdering her when we try to cut her talons 🤦
My little dog does that. I wonder what the neighbors think? Lol
Load More Replies...I can recognise a few, but I've never been to Japan. Do you know Calpis? I can't see it here.
Load More Replies...You can always tell when a server doesn't have kids, they always put burning hot food infront of tiny tots :/
He's just making sure the waiter won't accidentally spill the hot soup over his child.
Load More Replies...Don’t understand this one. Were you afraid hot soup would be spilled?
Ever seen a kid suddenly stand up? I have. seen some near-misses, too.
Load More Replies...My guess: the food is hot and the father doesn't want it to accidentally end up on his son as he's very little and the waiter can't see him very good (because of the stool and the serving tray). Or he simply doesn't want the waiter to transport the food over his son's head (the easiest and quickest way for the waiter, unless the little one suddenly stands up on the stool of course and especially since he's not sitting down properly).
Load More Replies...Sure looks like it! Double points for minimally adequate supply and inventive use!
Load More Replies...".... And then Jeff the monkey climbed to the top of the tree and ate the banana... Gosh this is boring, so then Jeff... "
Yes! Lol. My daughter sucked on it until she was about one. Then it turned into a hammer for some reason.
Load More Replies..."Look Mama, we make snow, came play with us, maybe we can get more paper." My son. Oooooh my God,how I gonna clean this mess ?!?! Oooooh he looks so happy and proud, was my fault let the door open,so I will just explain him to not do it again, but now I just gonna play with him. . . Now he grow and don't want to play with "snow" anymore. They grow so fast. 😥
your entire name is a hamilton reference and I love it
Load More Replies...Also, it happens every parent. Well it happened to me. Yup, hurts like heck!!!
A wonderful dad, all he does for his son, the important things I hope he has some help !!!
I like seeing how the artist's technique and skill has changed as the child grows.
Favorite sport: rolling over when the completely filled diaper has just been opened.
YES.. and then I tell her stop and she does it even more. You know, I think they are on to something
Load More Replies...Just when you’re done, the baby decides they have to pee. And that’s usually just before you start to close the diaper getting your face and shirt all wet with pee. Oh well! Kids.
Being a father of 3 I can tell you that when you are changing the baby you feel like you need about 8 arms just to keep him/her still and things out of there hands.....but would not ever change a thing love all 3 of the little monsters :)
What about it? I cut my own hair and I do it in the bathroom. It's the easiest place to keep the hair contained and sweep it up. If you're holding a child while having his hair cut it makes sense to sit down, and the toilet makes sense. Not sure what the problem is with the location.
Load More Replies...Love the location! Where else can you cut hair without it getting all over furniture, etc. Love the perspective!
Lol. Hopefully the museum doesn't have an audio system installed as well.
once there was a dinosaur exhibit a lot like this one that my boyfriend and i went to and a woman didn't know that the dinosaurs would move and roar every few minutes. She leaned into the exhibit to take a picture and one of them started moving. You can probably guess what happened next.
THIS WAS ME AT THE SCIENCE CENTER UNTIL I WAS 7 Embarrassing fact Forever alone ;-;
Don't feel too bad - my instinctive response to this pic was to blurt out "Holy s***"!" Dinos are scary!
Load More Replies...Dad should wait a few years, then he probably won't be afraid.
Load More Replies...I do this with my cat, so he can delicately sniff all the plants . Probably not as heartwarming as with a tiny child, but it's sweet with my kitty.
I dunno, it warmed my heart! That's very sweet.
Load More Replies...Does anyone remember having to pick your childrens nose?
How did he know where to put those white highlights? They really make it pop!
Those are Green Toys! haha I got the submarine and truck for my little guy. I wanted to get them all too...
I recognized them immediately too. I have that boat in my bathtub right now.
Load More Replies...Yea, just 2 scoops left and the store is 15minutes away and baby screams like a dragon when she's hungry. 😂😂
I love it when little kids peek around or over the seat. My husband and I both smile and give a little wave, and we usually get a nice big smile in return. Cheers everybody up, especially the parents, if the seat neighbors are friendly to the baby!
Thank you! Nothing worse then these disgrateful looks you get when your little one isn't just sitting calmly
Load More Replies...I know, so talented and yet so relatable and sweet all in once. It’s a really rare one this’un. So talented.
Load More Replies...Riding a train in Japan - many social codes to comply with. No talking! No phone-calls! No climbing into strangers' laps!
I never had any patience for this "game". I'd let them drop whatever 2-3 times and then either leave it on the floor or keep it and not give it back. I'm pretty sure this is one of the reasons I've been "meanest mommy of the year" so many times. ;P
lol my friend told me this story that his mom told him about when he was two... his mom got a call from the pre school reporting that he had said a potty word. she told them that he had probably just been trying to say sit, as both words sound very similar, but the day care told her this: 'no ma'am, he dropped his sippy cup and screamed.' XD
Little kids are terrific mimics. When my daughter was two she dropped something and said, "Oh, cwap!" That was the point at which I decided I needed to watch my language better...
Load More Replies...In meeting Japanese tourists around Christchurch, my kids always got mobbed. AND SQUEEZED! (by women only)
Aren't they great? I was going to say that he has an instinct, but that's not giving him enough credit - he put a lot of work into developing his artistic style.
Load More Replies...but this method costs you nothing and works instantly lol
Load More Replies...This entire series is fantastic and should be shared widely — what a gift! I’m a huge fan and would love to see more of your work! Well done!!
In Japan, the public release of snot is one of the grossest thing ever. NEVER blow your nose in public!!.(Doing so in a restaurant is the equivalent of taking a dump right on the floor, apparently.) So I guess you don't want your baby to shame you, either.
Finally. A comic series that shows the beauty and wholesomeness of having children and not those cliche ones which constantly whine and make parenting looks undesirable. This is honestly beautiful and the art is just :')
I worked with kids for 20 years, and most of them had absent fathers. It's beautiful, to see a father caring so much for his child in these artworks, especially one doing it on his own.
I liked all of them. The color looks great, the perspective was different and interesting and I could feel the love and the struggle to make the paints as well to grow a child.
You couldn't have said it better. This is such a lovely series of great illustrations.
Load More Replies...I'm raising 3 girls alone. Mom bowed out early and refuses to pay child support. Aside from being tired a lot I have no complaints.
so beautiful at capturing those everyday moments of joy (or pain) as a parent!
