Father Publicly Disowns His Son With A Powerful Open Letter After He Marches In Charlottesville Protests
The small town of Charlottesville, Virginia, is making international headlines after a right-wing multi-group protest scheduled for August 11th turned shockingly violent. A Fargo, North Dakota man named Pearce Tefft has bravely stepped forward to denounce and disown his son, who identifies as a white nationalist and marched at the fateful Unite the Right rally. “Peter Tefft, my son, is not welcome at our family gatherings any longer,” he writes in a powerful open letter published on August 14th.
The Tefft family announcement comes just 6 months after Peter was labelled by locals in his hometown as a ‘Nazi,’ following the discovery of disturbing Nazi Germany-related content he had shared on social media. Though Tefft has refused the title and prefers to be known as a “pro-White activist,” his father admits in his letter that Peter has made jokes about throwing non-Fascists “into an oven.” Pearce Tefft, a liberal Democrat, maintains that his wayward son did not learn this discriminatory behaviour at home, and that the entire family rejects his actions and beliefs.
The Charlottesville protests, which Peter traveled from North Dakota to attend, escalated into chaos after a man associated with the neo-Nazi movement rammed into a crowd of pedestrians with his car, killing a 32-year-old woman named Heather Heyer. The rallies were triggered by plans to remove Confederate monuments from public spaces in Charlottesville, and have spurred new conversations about interracial conflict in the USA.
Read Pearce Tefft’s poignant letter below, and tell us what you think at the end.

All this hate towards Whites, Blacks, Asians, Hispanics and Muslims is all pointless, it is the Orange one you have to be fearful of

Terrorism is terrorism, no matter what label you give yourself. His son is no different to the members of ISIS.
The thing with this is that people only go along with these things when they are vulnerable individuals or incredibly ignorant of the world. It is the reason ISIS has managed to recruit so many young people. While I agree with the stand this father has taken, I would like to know how many times they have tried to reach out to him and talk about this, to understand why he thinks like he does. The guy is young, impressionable and an idiot in understanding race. While what he has done is inexcusable, everyone should be looking at why someone from such an accepting family could be so easily swayed to hate the world. I don't see public shaming and isolation can possibly help him. I don't know what the solution is, but I'm not sure this is the right one. I guess it all depends on how much his family means to him and whether he is prepared to lose them over his feeling of superiority.
Thank you! At least someone pointed it out. I completely agree with you.

My question is, even in the face of freedom of speech, why in hell do we as Americans that sent our young men and women to fight against the Nazis, allow these animals freedom to roam our streets?
This "pro-white" stuff reminds me of another phenomenon that's prevalent in the U.S. called "Christian persecution". Basically, some Christians (mainly Evangelicals) think that they're being persecuted because, nowadays, people won't like them if they bash gay people or they get pissy about people not putting Jesus first in Christmas (while not knowing or acknowledging that the majority of Christmas stuff is hand-lifted from pagan holidays like Saturnalia, and Jesus was just shoved in afterwards to fit Christianity into already familiar holidays and practices). The reason they feel like this is that they used to be, basically, the only respected group in America, so the introduction of social equality causing them to have to tolerate other people feels like persecution to them.
Please separate from the genuine persecution experienced in ChrIstian countries.

I don't understand being racist in any capacity. Being racist requires one to be ignorant of reality and accuse people of things based on genetic phenotype. It's like hating black dogs or tabby cats specifically. You have no basis that they're worse or different, but you can group them as visually distinct, so that's "good enough", apparently.
Well apparently, the Jews are conspiring to wipe out the white race, so white nationalist need to preserve their race and make sure it remains the majority. This is genuinely what they believe, I kid you not.
