"His wife" has a name too, and it's Lélia Wanick Salgado. They're both environmentalists so they both should be recognized.
^ not meant to be harsh, just a little annoyed that only one of the two people mentioned were named.
Load More Replies...They’re heroes of their own kind, saving Nature and giving back to it; saving and preserving wildlife too. I hope they both received (or do receive at some point) an award for their exceptional work.
Their (her) idea to do this was fantastic, but it wasn't them, it was him buying an abandoned ranch from his parents, and then working to find other people to fund the project, a lot of watering of the trees, and an army of people from the surrounding areas doing the work while they themselves, fundamentally, did very little.
Load More Replies...Indeed, just like it’s incredible how right off the bat you knew the math to figure it out 🙂
Load More Replies...Elephants mourn their dead... they made this man an honorary member of the herd. This is so sweet and sad.
In case anyone else is wondering how they knew: “After his death, although they were not alerted to the event, a group of wild elephants Anthony helped to rescue and rehabilitate travelled to his house in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. They stood around the house in an apparent vigil for two days, and then dispersed.” (CBC)
That’s what has me kinda bugged out. Like, who told them!?
Load More Replies...I whole heartedly recommend reading "The Elepant Whisperer", a book penned by Anthony Lawrence. It's a book about his work on his private reserve in South Africa. I couldn't put it down, had to finish it in one go.
Going through obscure facts isn't just temporary fun. Turns out, it can also be good for our mental health. For example, experts say that playing trivia games can provide a dopamine rush much like gambling, but without the negative effects.
Whether we're playing Trivial Pursuit at home or attending a pub trivia night, the basic premise remains the same: we experience the thrill of providing correct answers to questions about lesser-known facts.
I wish all of us had moms like this! Mine would probably leave me in the burning house long enough to get injured/or straight-up die so that she could then be the poor tragic mother who needs sympathy and attention :/
Load More Replies...See! This is the kind of activities that should consume current headlines each night in the news of this world we unfortunately are existing within. The reason society and humankind has become such exploited doodoo is because people ACT like a bunch o dinghy moral-less ba****ds. ON PURPOSE. Folks deliberately choose to be a flippin' deranged kind of sorts bc it makes them a star instantly. Thank you social media, but today's point goes to the continuance for HUMANITY as every point ought to get assigned
Hell hath no fury…You will not get between a mother and her children. She is awesome!
Wow, she is so brave. I don't think I could ever muster up the courage to do that, but I'm also not a mother.
if you ever have a kid you'll understand. I'd let doctors put me to sleep and take my vital organs for my kids. They are everything.

Impressive. In her case, the bigger they are the harder they fall.
Load More Replies...Reminds me of the teenagers who robbed an old lady and ran off... only to be ruthlessly chased down by said old lady, who was a retired champion sprinter. Once she got her purse back she gave them all a good talking to about how they should be ashamed of themselves.
The old chap is an ex royal marine hand to hand combat instructor. Upsetting him would be the equivalent of poking Mike Tyson in the eye and telling him that he was useless as a boxer.
Frank should’ve finished the job by blackening his other eye to match
Right-handed, with a punishing first hook I'm guessing. His left hand may have been blocking the knife, if the assailant was also right-handed.

Gray story but healthcare to save someone’s life should not drain your f*****g life savings
F*** you to US health"care" just as much
Load More Replies...This story disgusts me. She had to use her life savings to pay for what should be a fundamental human right. Meanwhile the same government pisses money against the wall on its military! Sort your priorities out America!
Yup. And on the military itself, not veterans. It’s all such a sad mess.

Kounios said the benefits can also be similar to those of playing video games.
However, Kounios stressed that trivia is generally not a problematic hobby.
“I don’t think there are any pitfalls,” he said. “Like anything else that’s fun, it takes up time.”
I like to think the world is not a cold, dead place. That people will risk their life to help another soul. Sure the world is not looking good, but I’d risk my life for any of you pandas ❤️
Thank you, my canine cousin! <3 I would do the same for you and all my fellow Pandas as well! Heh, I remember when I was a kid, I really wanted to be a hero and save/help someone, for some reason. I used to draw pictures of situations where I planned out what I would do to save my mother if we were ever in a bad situation together (e.g., getting mugged.) Of course, I was like 6, so my "plan" consisted of using my stuffed German Shepherd toy, Chace, as a flail (I would swing him by his tail), beating up the mugger with Chace, thus easily driving off a grown adult attacker with an 18-inch-tall stuffed dog. Obviously. XDDD I still have that drawing somewhere!! XD

He was interviewed by Obama when Obama was President. That’s quite an achievement.
PBS shows Nature on Wednesday evenings where I live. One of my cats is smitten with Sir David’s voice. He will awaken from a sound sleep, in another room, when he hears Sir David’s voice and will come watch the program. Sir David usually has birds in his program, so it’s a win-win as far as my cat is concerned! Truth be told, I’m smitten with him, as well!

I'm gonna start asking loud men, "Why are you yelling? Is your peepee tiny?"
Not Americans, but some people. Have you heard of Sharia Law? It’s not very American and more based on revenge than any other system. Furthermore, America is 7 times more populous than the UK, which has seems some wild vengeance in crimes like these. Additionally, Eastern Europe runs on vengeance or revenge equal to or more than America. Stop with overly gross generalization to criticize Americans.
Load More Replies...There's no excuse at all for what was done to these men but he deserves the sentence. A person cannot simply decide to mete out justice as they see fit and not reap the consequences. Otherwise society is lawless, chaotic, and broken.
He did reap the consequences of the justice he dealt though. He's in prison.
Load More Replies...I hope he verified their crimes before beating them up because some people on the list are there for indecent exposure due to public urination because they were drunk. Or they were teenagers and had sex with another teenaged girl and her family reported them. It's bonkers how some people get on the list and stay there forever.
In the UK (can't speak for other countries) people who are on the list for incidents that you describe would only be on the register between 2 ½ and 5 years, to be added for life requires a considerable custodial sentence.
Load More Replies...“Sooo newbie, what are you in for!?” I beat a bunch of sex offenders with a hammer. “….shake my hand.”
This guys mom let her husband move back in with them after he was let out of jail On a 3 year sentence, convicted of assaulting and molesting her boys. WTF?!
It's sick that some mothers put their love/sex life over their children's.
Load More Replies...I can't say I really approve of his methods. A hammer is perhaps too much. I can't say I disapprove either. If my children were abused and the ofender got just a couple of years in jail I would do the same.
I want to say "Job well done" however This action cant be allowed, can it ? a bit of conflict going on in my brain right now !
Sarah Kishler, who works as a librarian in California, loves trivia games and enjoys attending a monthly pub trivia night in which a team of librarians participates.
"Learning facts so that I can get better at trivia is definitely a passion of mine," she also told Healthline. "Getting a question right is definitely very satisfying to me."
Word of caution: overcoming an addiction is a lifelong habit that requires a conscious effort each and every day. And, if someone falls after a period of sobriety, they need their support group to guide them back.
To help them realize that falling is not failing, and that they’re not alone. Addiction is such a beast.
Load More Replies...My grandfather did this with alcohol. Years later and after he had already passed away my grandmother finally threw a very swollen can of beer out of the fridge and into the garbage. I grew up seeing that can of beer and didn’t know until I had gotten out of college and mentioned throwing it out before it burst that I found out the significance of it being there. I had no idea he was an alcoholic because I never saw him drink as I was growing up.
Exactly! Everyone can throw all the shade they want to at Eminem, but he stepped up for his daughter and, by all accounts, is a great dad. He also legally adopted and was given custody of his sister-in-law's daughter (the child of his ex-wife's sister), as well as the child from his ex-wife's affair. He also raised his younger half-brother Nathan. Yeah, did he have drug and alcohol problems when he was younger? Yep. Did he step up to the plate to raise children that weren't even his biologically, but needed a parent? Yep! And that's what's more important.
Load More Replies...That is cool, congrats Bobi! I wish all dogs lived that long or longer.
Seriously! I can only hope and pray to the Dog Gods that my current pupper lives this long. I was fortunate with my gray cat - she lived for 20 years. But my German Shepherd only made it to 12 years. Maybe I can write to Bobi's owners and get their recipe book so I can feed the same things to my Stilgar XD
Load More Replies...My last two died of cancer years before their time. As you say 20 years is not long enough, but when you lose between 5 and 10 years that they should have been around it's even worse.
Load More Replies...Right! I was thinking he is looking good for his age
Load More Replies...yep, we're so backward using clean water to flush poop and urine, all the while, clean drinking water is becoming scarce. reclaimed water would work just fine.
Totally agree. Such a waste to use drinking water. We often use the water we catch from the shower while it is heating up. We have a full bucket in two days, it helps a bit.
Load More Replies...Conservation-wise, this is a great idea, but wouldn't it be difficult to wash your hands while straddling the bowl?
I never had a problem using these while there. I just approached from the side. It worked.
Load More Replies...I flush my toilet with my bath water. You'd be surprised how few people know that you don't need the cistern at all. You can literally take a bucket and throw the water straight into the toilet pan. I've had people at work gasping and going, "You can't do that!!" (The suburb is often afflicted with water shortages so we flush with borehole water.) Um, my father worked for sewer maintenance (20 years as superintendent) for 35 years, I think I can remember what he told me.
My mum (a plumber) installed a toilet and a system like this fully under our stairs when we moved house.
We have a sink like this because we have so little space in our bathroom
When a loved one leaves the pain is insurmountable. In my opinion, this pain never leaves. This insurmountable loss and pain becomes a part of our life as we cherish the memories.
Couldn’t agree more, my father died when I was 7 years old, we were inseparable…My life was changed, and I don’t know what life is without depression even though I have a loving wife and a child both of which are my world…There is still that void that can’t be filled…
Load More Replies...As a person with diagnosed depression, I can also relate to this. It seems losing a loved one sends people to the same emotional space where depression resides. I'm sorry for all those you lost.
I have depression too, and I'm grieving the loss of my wife. I think you're right about grief occupying the same emotional space. I hadn't thought about it that way before. It makes both much harder to cope with.
Load More Replies...My mother and I can both relate to this very well, unfortunately. She’s lost so many loved ones over the years it’s incredible she’s still going strong. The worst for me, that I’m still not over and don’t think I ever will be, was losing my dad… I would say this is a pretty accurate depiction. F*****g emptiness hurts.
When my parents passed I was broken. The greatest comfort I had was knowing I would see them again in Heaven. Thank The good Lord for that Peace beyond all understanding!
I wish I could believe that. I'm sure it's a great comfort.
Load More Replies...My friend, who I had known for 47 years, passed over a year ago. I miss him every day.
My dad, brother, and best, most favorite uncle all died within a little over two years of one another. I was a wreck for quite some time.
You never 'lose' a person, they just get on an earlier bus. All are reunited in the next life, unless they've been very evil...this isn't faith, it's fact.
This brings me some comfort, as I wonder every day where my father ended up and if I’ll ever see him again. Thank you for comfortly reassuring a stranger of something that drove me nuts thinking about.
Load More Replies...I've lost all my siblings, one brother and 2sisters. I was the oldest one. None of them reached the age of 50. I still think about them everyday. The pain of loss never goes away, you only learn to live with it.
So much loss. I'm sorry you had to experience that, you have my condolences 😔
Load More Replies...Over the past decade, pub trivia nights that are popular in the United Kingdom appear to have grown in popularity in other parts of Europe and the United States as well.

Load More Replies...My HS biology teacher told us about watching a couple of kids pestering a lion at the zoo. It backed up against its enclosure and sprayed all over them.
Load More Replies...Here in Africa, we call it a safari. Lions sometimes get special treats when tourists climb out of their cars for a closer look.
They have these in lots of places, they're just called safaris not zoos. e.g. African Lion Safari in Ontario.
Lol, I've been on a bunch of African safaris as a tour, I've been my own tour guide and driven around a few game parks, many different times, all in actual Africa, so that's where I thought you were going with it, but then you said "Ontario".....I was NOT expecting that, lol. I actually haven't tried any of the American "African Safari"s, or Canadian, except I've been on the one at Disney World in Animal Kingdom, I imagine it's pretty similar.
Load More Replies...The more amazing part of this is that they did this with cars from 40 years in the future. So this is actually a time travel story...
A quote from Snopes (site commonly used for fact checking) disputes the likelihood of this being accurate: "John Mohr, the Executive Director of the Society of Automotive Historians, told us that the cars in this picture were not available in 1895. Rather, these vehicles were likely manufactured decades later in the late 1920s or early 1930s." https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/only-two-cars-ohio-crashed-1895/
Fun fact: the "location" known as the Sea of Japan stretches for over 1000 miles, along almost the entire western coast of Japan. Not every inch of coastline is what everybody would call beach, but every inch of beach is a place where the water, beach, and snow meet during an annual event called "winter".
So? We get snow to the water line in Canada frequently, as do many other countries.
The actual location is San’in Kaigan Geopark in Hokkaido. The "Sea of Japan" is literally all of the sea between Japan, the Korean Peninsula and far east Russia, where the Japanese Archipelago separates this area of sea from the Pacific.
not that impressive, any cold country would have this, e.g. iceland?
✨AMERICA✨, land of the free, amirite? (speaking as an American, lol)

That’s heartbreaking! 💔 I hope the courts have mercy on him and got him the help he needed instead.
In Bermuda we had a well known street person who would smack a police officer upside the head round about November so that he could be sent to jail for the month of December and enjoy a really nice Christmas Dinner with people around him. The Bermuda Chief Magistrate who shoved him in the nick every year more or less admitted that this was a sort of charitable donation because otherwise the fella would be alone on the streets for Christmas. Everybody (including the cops) were okay with him because although he was permanently pissed (drunk to non-anglo speakers), he was not too much violent or mean, was a real character, , and he is now deceased, so no names, no pack drill - that's just how it was in Old Bermuda in them days. Try that in the Southern US now and they'd shoot him in the head just for being black and homeless and assaulting a police officer. Go Figure.
That's 'Murica for you, the greatest country in the world that doesn't take care of its citizens even a little. No "rights" no healthcare. This country literally isn't even in the top 25 hahahahhelpus
Seen a clip of almost same scenario in Shameless, the character walked up to a cop and punched him, as he was being detained the other character screamed why’d you do that, he said, I need health care
“People really like to have some expertise on something and the brain is very good at focusing on things that you’re interested in,” Deborah Stokes, Ph.D., L.P.C., B.C.N., a psychologist in Virginia, who focuses on neurotherapy told the same outlet.
According to Stokes, learning large bodies of knowledge can often start with trivia. And people who are interested in trivia can be brainy, have a high IQ, and be smart on a lot of levels.
we Aussies are ashamed. To be fair, Emu's are fukn frightening and tough buggers...
Not trying to throw too much shade on you Aussies, but didn't y'all lose against bunnies as well? (Though those are an invasive species, to be fair.)
Load More Replies...The infamous Emu War. Watch the video on Oversimplified on YouTube. It's hysterical.
Great suggestion. The vid was informative and amusing. (Not necessarily in that order.)
Load More Replies...To be fair it was just three blokes a s****y gun and a Ute
Load More Replies...I was reading up on this just a couple of weeks ago from a contemporary writer. The farmers of wheat crops found that emus were destroying their crops by trampling them. They trampled more than they ate. So one group of farmers petitioned the government and got a detachment from the army with machine guns to shoot the emus. The first problem with that was that the emus didn't wait around to be machine gunned, but darted hither and thither through the crops causing more damage. The second problem was that machine gun bullets travel a long way, and became a serious hazard for farmers and their stock. In other words, the emus won.
I understand that the troops all carried feather dusters as a form of intimidation. Clearly, it didn't work.

Student confronted with a knife? What was he supposed to do? Get stabbed?
In the eyes of many school administrators? Absolutely. Which explains why schools are getting out of control (not counting spree shooters: that's a while other can of worms)

"I don't know who you think you are. I know what you want. If you are looking for extra marks on your test, I can tell you I haven't got any for you. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for schoolkids like you. If you go sit back at your desk now that'll be the end of it. I will not send you to the principal's office, I will not give you detention class after school. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will give you zero for your test."
I can't even tell you the c**p that goes on in these schools. Although they are allowed to "defend" themselves, any action made to defend themselves or other students is taken and abused and lied about. Ignore me before I start ranting.
I need to know how f'd up the dude was after. So after some googling. The gorilla was intoxicated on fermented bamboo. He came at the photographer with all his weight and it felt like being hit by a train he said. He was left with a souvenir scar on his forehead. (I'm guessing from where his camera went into his face.) Then the gorilla just walked right over him and went on his way. (Super lucky he's alive imo).
Appreciate the added info. In this day and age we’re living in I’m surprised the photographer didn’t try to sue the gorilla 😏
Load More Replies...Getting in the face of a drunk gorilla seems kinda like knocking over the line of Harleys in front of a dive bar while the owners watch.
Yes but everyone knows that the way out of this scenario is to put Tequila on the jukebox and dance on the bar in your platform boots.
Load More Replies...Do not ever call bamboo shooters chimp drinks in a gorilla bar!
The photographer should really read some books on body language. That gorilla's expression is saying "I'm going to punch you, m**********r" loud and clear.
I had no idea the back story of this photo! Silverbacks can be pretty scary, but a drunk one would be terrifying.
*Super Mario unalive noise*…All jokes aside, you couldn’t pay me enough to go hang out with gorillas, chimps, orangutans, etc.. Nope y’all do you and keep looking fabulous…
Purely out of curiosity, why have you written "unalive" instead of dying or death or similar? :-)
Load More Replies...I am surprised that Christophe survived the encounter. I would have expected for his head to be knocked right off his shoulders.
"In typical people, my observation, not backed up by any research, is that their interest in trivia is confined to topics that they are generally interested in," Kounios added.
"So if a person is very interested in history, then they may either seek out history trivia, or they might just naturally pick it up in the course of learning about nontrivial aspects of history."
Stokes also pointed out that trying to retain information about things we're interested in can be like a good exercise for the frontal cortex as the brain ages.
So if you're up for more, fire up our earlier publication on 'WTF Facts!'
2 days of work for about almost what I make a year🤔, are they hiring ?
With as many support cables those towers have, you would probably need a new one each time
Load More Replies...The job is real but logically the pay is total BS. Anyone have a legit source? I can find video of this guy but the 'sources' of the pay amount are just randos on sites like twitter / reddit. The legit info I can find is stuff like starting pay for tower climbers is $17/hr. -- If a company was really paying $20K per climb then logically it would make fiscal sense to do it differently. 1. Haul someone up there with a helicopter the way they do for some high power line workers in remote locations. 2. Install some fairly simple circuitry and 2 or 4 bulbs (or whatever) that would just auto switch over to a new bulb. Either on burn out or on a timer. Then said change could happen once every 2 years instead of twice a year. The pay stated does not pass the sniff test.
I think it's relevant because the Marshall Islands don't speak Spanish - they speak Marshallese. (Yes, that really is what it's called!)
Load More Replies...well obviously he's shouting in spanish if he's mexican, what do you expect, shouting in amurkan? ffs
He is actually from El Salvador and him speaking Spanish to the first people he came across when he made it to land in the Marshall Islands, the official languages of which are English and Marshallese, is part of the story. His book is called 438 days. I try to read it every so often because it really makes you appreciate the comforts you have and his determination to live is very inspirational. Didn't appreciate your latest insult of Americans on this post about something that means a lot to me and didn't seem to have anything to do with any Americans being a******s or stupid.
Load More Replies...There's an amazing book about this fittingly called 438. The man he took out on the fishing trip (spoiler alert) had never been out to sea before. It was his first trip and unfortunately his last.
There's another book worth reading called "survive the savage sea" where a family of husband wife and children survived 38 days drifting at sea in a dinghy after Orcas sank their yacht.
Load More Replies...Surely he must've been slightly if not entirely insane at this point, the isolation for that amount of time would break anyone's mind!!?

They go wherever the queen is it is neat to watch when capturing swarms they will land and march to the queen. Put her in a hive box and in they go.
Well... You will have car full of bees... They will fly in instantly. You should take/throw the queen out, but better way is leave it to some beekeeper in protective clothing I think...
Load More Replies...So somebody drove around for 2 days with a bee in their car, and a swarm of bees outside it? I don't think so. This was a prank.
If this is the story I remember. It was in the UK, in Bristol. The driver only drove a few streets away to work /shop during the 2 days before noticing and calling a beekeeper in.
Load More Replies...When I was a kid I was told by my great grandma's 2nd husband that in the late 50s early 60s him and his friends were responsible for several faked foot prints and other evidence such as howls of Big Foot in Skamania County WA. The irony of it all is that later in life he was a converted believer in Sasquatch. I've been wanting to tell this secret since I was 15.

The mistake he made wasn't dropping acid, it was having a conversation with a horse. Horses *love* f*****g with people on hallucinogens.
“He kept going on and on about that time he bit off the head of a bat. “said the horse.
Funny anecdote. Ozzy claims he had no idea the bat was real. He thought someone threw a rubber bat up on stage. A friend of his advised to keep that tidbit of information to himself. The bat incident gave Ozzy a s**t-load of macabre cred.
Load More Replies...First off, good for Ozzie. He credits his wife with saving his life - encouraging him to get off or at least use less chemicals. But as worded - two things I saw on BP this morning made me laugh when compared to each other. 1. Eminem quite all drugs and alcohol a number of years ago. 2. Ozzie. "Well, I think I'll stop doing acid". LOL. I think in reality he has quit a lot more than just the acid - just the wording that made me chuckle.
"I knew I was in trouble, when he started to sound intelligible." -- the horse.
Anyone who knows about Ozzy's health and his retirement from an illustrious musical career might do well not to laugh at him right now. You ignorant c***s.
He really was a legendary performer in his day. Some people can keep their addiction at bay, others can't. Think of Ozzy's working conditions. Plentiful drugs and parties and enablers and no doubt a lot of stress. I know under those conditions for decades I would probably come out a mess. Fans who turn on somebody whom they used to practically worship because they got old and, unfortunately, used a lot of drugs suck.

Load More Replies...It is not the clearest in the country or world. I live here, it is beautiful and there is a lot of money spent to keep invasive mussels out and other water management. The clarity depends of wind, wake, location, weather and more. It is amazing and it is the largest natural freshwater lake west of Mississippi. Unfortunately it is no secret it is about and hour south of Glacier National Park and is overwhelmed by tourists. Also if you come to Montana (or anywhere) pack it in and pack it out we hate tourists for a reason!
Not if people have anything to do with it. Won't be clear for long. We suck.
They had questions if she was that old-like maybe her daughter took over her identity. The other fascinating thing is her lawyer went into contract with her to purchase her apartment en viager when she was 90. Basically someone makes a monthly payment until the seller’s death, when the property becomes theirs. She outlived him. And his children had to continue the payments by law until her death. Maybe karma thinking he was getting a great deal on real estate.
Yes. A possibility is that she died young, about 38, and a close younger relative took over her identity in order to evade the death duty. The townsfolk were complicit in this because they didn't like the death duty tax either.

This makes me feel better, it's a great reminder to check yourself for thinking in stereotypes. My IQ is close to that, and I've not made any noticeable accomplishments that would give it away. I am disabled, and feel I can never live up to the potential I had as a child. I think everyone expects that a high IQ means we've gotta be nerdy, awkward geniuses. Higher IQ does, however, increase existential depression, so please, bring on the cannabis so we can make it until tomorrow. Do not judge a book by it's cover, or even by it's reputation 💜
I think a lot of truly gifted children struggle when they get into the "real world." They have to deal with average people, bureaucracy, and other frustrations they find depressing...
Load More Replies...not denying his intelligence, the dude has obvious gifts, but IQ tests arent a great metric to test true intellect. It's mainly used to test school performance...
Question people, what's it with you Americans and IQ tests? I have no clue about my IQ and never met a person that made an IQ test? What's your obsession with them? They are pretty useless and can't really tell actual intelligence?
Americans like to use IQ and EQ to compare and judge how worthy someone is to engage with, like it's some sort of flex or determines their success rate. I've never had an IQ test, as it's not considered a necessary test for neurotypical students. But if someone has a developmental, intellectual delay or disability, an IQ might be determined at some point later, after many, many assessments over the years. My daughter has a developmental/intellectual disability, we saw her IQ number mentioned in the summary report when she turned 18. It's lower than average but not by much. The way she articulates and holds a good, deep conversation you wouldn't suspect there's anything wrong. But give her directions to do something she'll be lost until you tell her every single, little detailed step with a visual demonstration. Just an example. Otherwise, yeah, they don't hold much use or value for anything or anyone. Anyone can come up with something genius and people will slap a label on the person as being a genius, despite they're just an average person who created something no one else thought to create.
Load More Replies...IQ is not an accurate measurement of intelligence. Not only does it not it take into account any social or emotional skills, all the questions are skewed to favor white, middle class individuals. Not suprising, considering the test was created by people from the same demographic. (if you're wondering I'm not biased because of my own IQ - my last test said 155). Someone may not be familiar with a fibonacci sequence, for example, because they've never been taught one, but that doesn't mean they aren't intelligent. Check this out if you want to read more. https://theconversation.com/the-iq-test-wars-why-screening-for-intelligence-is-still-so-controversial-81428
IQ is overrated and a highly suspect measurement anyhow. There are countless “geniuses” that never amount to anything because they can’t figure out how to apply that intelligence or have very low emotional intelligence and just don’t know how to deal with people or think they’re too good for rules. When anyone over the age of 12 talks about IQ, I check out; tell me what you’ve accomplished. Or how you’re applying your genius to solve difficult problems like cancer or climate change. Otherwise, just shut up and let the people who actually want to make things better get to work.
IQ is not the be all and end all way to determine someone's intelligence there are many other forms of intelligence that are often overlooked, emotional intelligence for one .... remember the smartest person in the room is the one who knows they're not the smartest person in the room
Many people with high iq do deliberately “sabotage” themselves to keep from going insane. CBD helps me.

The Macgyver episode "the wish child" may relate to this. A person was claimed to be reincarnated in order to be proclaimed head of a religious movement. He's not an inherently evil person. He's not Hitler-class. It's just that China is a horrible, horrible place in terms of human rights, and the average Chinese person does not DARE speak out against China/the CCP/the government/etc. and they feel obligated to be very vocal supporters of the government. ESPECIALLY if you are a Chinese actor or athlete or similar - your livelihood (and the literal lives of your family members) relies on the government's support. Chinese actors have spoken out against the government before and have been literally "erased" and blacklisted into the shadow realm. Peng Shuai is a tennis player who accused a government official of sexual assault, and she LITERALLY DISAPPEARED mysteriously (I don't think she has been found to this day.) Zhao Wei is an actress who spoke out against the government, and she disappeared as well (she allegedly moved to France), and the Chinese government has systematically scrubbed out all of her work. China SUCKS right now.

Middle child, yup. Admittedly, I was rebellious (& the youngest was spoilt rotten, and the oldest was treated as the babysitter), but was forgiven for my rebellious streak when later, in my mid-20s (as I had to wait, being a female born in the 60s) achieved a (first) degree in Engineering. Load More Replies...With that hair I'm guessing it was all through donation..... Surprised his wrist isn't in a sling.
Just to clarify the situation: He provided semen to a lot of spermbanks. In Holland, but also in Belgium and Germany. The Dutch law was changed years ago after he already fathered more than 25 children by half the spermbanks, so they stopped immediately using his seed. The others stopped at 25. It wasn't known by that time he donated at multiple places. Only after a sort of centralized registry it was discovered. Now he is banned from donating IN HOLLAND. Other countries have their own laws, so within those foreign laws, he's still free to donate anywhere else. Nothing the Dutch authorities can do about that.
Why "cringe"? People with penises can struggle with infertility/low sperm count sometimes, and couples may want a child, but the person with a penis perhaps cannot physically father the child, so the couple turns to a sperm bank. They aren't gross or cringeworthy, they are incredibly valuable and can be a miracle for infertile couples who want children. Sometimes, single people with a uterus may want a child as well without having to have sex (perhaps they are asexual, for an example), so again, the sperm bank is a blessing for those people. If you're cringing because this particular dude donated a lot of sperm, well, I guess that's your opinion, but sperm production and ejaculation are totally normal bodily functions, just like menstruation and the release of eggs in people who have a uterus.

So that somehow justifies murdering EIGHT CHILDREN and two adults? How does that make her a "poor girl"? Yes, she had a horrific childhood. Yes, she should have gotten help from the adults in her life. That does not justify murdering children nor does it make her a pitiable "poor girl". Not trying to coin a cliche, but PLENTY of people have horrific, abusive childhoods - some of them even worse than Brenda's - and they do not choose to slaughter eight children and two adults. I'm not saying she did not suffer horribly in her own childhood, I'm not saying that she should not have gotten help (the adults should have stepped up to help her; she had a history of violence and truancy) but she still made the choice to slaughter innocent children. She is not a "poor girl". She is a murderer. She literally "talked of doing something big to get on television" to her classmates before the murders. This should be a standard everywhere. Why are we normalising fat. It's wrong and also hypocritical when we're also talking so much about over-consumption.
When the houses/condos are over $1,000,000 then you get a lot of millionaires and a lot of people that can't afford a home.

Yet somehow the city is in “crisis” because of a few thousand migrants. Someone is not paying their fair share, and it’s not the asylum seekers.
A rich city or country is one where everyone eats regularly, gets medical care as needed and there are no homeless! Can anyone name a rich city or country that does that?
Disgrace, that people all over the world are willing to listen lies of the outright a******s, just to feel themselves better and safe. I'm not American, but really.

One would assume that the fact his Visa had been approved meant he'd satisfied that requirement. Takes about 3-4 years on average and they were engaged and moved to Australia in 2018 (they met in 2015) and he ditched her in 2021. So chances are good that he met the requirements and they won't deport him. It sucks, but that's the law.

Ghosting is rarely understandable, but I've gotta say, I've never linked it to looks. Stunning people can also be s****y people.
Load More Replies...I've always been of the opinion that a sportsman should be able to bet on themselves (or their team) to win. But never on anything that they can control. So no betting you'll lose, or make an error in the 53rd minute, or even win by small/big margin. But betting on yourself to win, that should be fine.
If AI written essays are as bad as AI created people, those students are in trouble.
If you saw some of the stuff they turn in on their own, you wouldn’t say that. 😉
Load More Replies...Somehow, I did not foresee having to say, “back in my day, there was no AI to get our degrees for us”
... we had to pay human ghostwriters to do it.
Load More Replies...most students just dont try. i knew a person in 8th grade who, instead of writing an essay for the history final, wrote the lyrics for “how bad can i be” over and over again. he got a 100 because teachers were so done
PSA: The crown jewels were actually given as a birthday gift from South Africa to the British King.
Nope. A single diamond gifted by a Dutch/German governor after it failed to sell at auction, reclaimed by the Dutch diamond miner DeBeers, cut down and then sent back to auction. Oh, and for all of the commenters talking about the British Crown stealing the diamond, causing a war - the Boer wars, 2 of them, and killing thousands of Boers - the Boers were white Dutch settlers, not black African people. There's a reason the predominant language of South Africa is Africaans not British like the rest of the Commonwealth. South Africa was ejected from the Commonwealth in 1961 because of Apartheid. They were invited to rejoin in 1994, after the end of Apartheid, 30 years and 1 day after being kicked out. President Nelson Mandela was a vocal proponent of rejoining the Commonwealth because of the trade value to South Africa from Commonwealth nations. It certainly wasn't the British Crown who imprisoned him for his political stance, it was the Dutch/German government, the very people who implemented Apartheid.

And it was gifted to the British King by a Dutch/German person.

Gifted by the non British government of South Africa in 1906 to the British King as a 66th birthday gift. It's really not that hard to find out the actual facts.

I would still punch him for putting me through that and then buy him a drink

I read a short horror story once where an extremely horrible rich man with a beautiful younger wife suspects she's cheating on him. So he pays off the local doctor to drug him so he appears dead, then revive him after the funeral and report on how the wife reacted. The doctor goes ahead with it... but doesn't revive him, instead allowing him to be buried alive. Because the wife WAS having an affair - with the doctor.
Creeps on twitter are constantly faking their deaths when girls turn them down. This is emotional manipulation. Juvenile.
Not strictly true. Men have a bunch of feel-good sleepytime chemicals released after sex, but it's not a guarantee for sleep.
Under those circumstances I probably wouldn't be able to get it up in the first place.

Fun fact: I love the list, hate the title. I don't say "WTF" when I learn something because I know more words than that. What's wrong with "Fascinating Random Facts"? And by the way, unless they start the sentence, words like "of", "the", "and", "may" aren't capitalized in headlines.
