A lot of people believe that Christmas is that time of the year when anything magical can happen. Even in times when it seems that nothing good can come out of the situation, something totally unexpected can occur. That is what happened to TikTok user @hollybrooke92 who decided to share what a lucky occurrence her family had witnessed after saying their last goodbyes to their late grandfather. It is not easy to accept the fact that you just lost someone dear to you, so anything that reminds you of them becomes of great importance. In her now-viral video with 8.7M views, Holly reveals that her cousin found some old unwrapped gifts prepared for them years ago by their grandparents. This finding meant the world for the family who had the opportunity to receive one last gift picked out for them by their relatives.

Very often Christmas is seen as a magical time full of miracles and one TikTok user decided to share an exciting occurrence that happened to her family

The woman started her video by showing a box full of wrapped gifts with names on them, stating that these were found by her cousin who came to clean the grandparents’ house after their grandfather passed away. While cleaning the attic, the woman found a box full of Christmas gifts together with an old Christmas card with some money that was from great grandparents who, according to Holly, passed away in 2002. Soon the great mystery of when these gifts were supposed to be given to them became the main question the TikToker tried to find the answer to.

The family tried to find out when these gifts were prepared by looking at the Christmas cards that had cash inside. The main clue that helped them to figure out when they were supposed to receive these gifts were the money bills dated in 1995. The woman shared that it was the year when her sister was born, also adding that her great grandmother died in 2008, so she guessed that the gift was supposed to be given somewhere in between that time.

A lot of people were curious to know what were the presents that their family members received from their grandparents. In the following videos, the woman revealed the gifts that she and her family received. These turned out to be some practical and thoughtful gifts, as her dad received a massage chair and a flashlight, and Holly got a cozy pink blanket and a matching “Snuggie”—a wearable blanket. The woman remembered that at that time, pink was her favorite color and the blanket was one of the things from her wish list, so this showed how considerate her grandparents were.

People online tried to help Holly to track down the date when these presents should have been gifted originally by giving some tips such as checking the date on the Christmas cards or on the money, also noticing that the wrapping paper which was used to wrap the gifts was pretty old. After the TikTok user showed a video where she opened her gifts, stating that “everyone is about to be disappointed,” she received some criticism from others online. Some people in the comments misinterpreted the woman saying that, as they would be happy to get something that would remind them of those who already left them. She later addressed these comments by saying that while she believes that some of the people find them to be nothing interesting, she values these gifts very much.

In one of her last videos, Holly shared her theories of why these presents were lost or forgotten and couldn’t be given at the right time. The woman revealed that her grandmother passed away in April of 2015. So the gifts could’ve been bought for the Christmas of 2014. However, the family didn’t have time to go and see the grandparents for Christmas of that year, and after the holidays, Holly’s grandmother’s health started to decline. The events spiraled and the gifts were put away and simply forgotten.

The woman also speculated about the Christmas cards and the money left by her great grandparents. Having in mind that these “fresh”-looking bills were taken from the bank in 1995 and considering that that was the year when Holly’s sister was born, the woman had an idea that this was when they were supposed to get it. Another speculation was that the great grandparents could’ve given the cards to the grandparents in 2007, since Holly’s great grandmother died in 2008.

Bored Panda contacted Holly to find out more about this wholesome story. The woman shared that it was shocking to see the video go viral online and it made her happy to see that something this positive was appreciated by many people, stating that her grandfather, who used to appear in newspapers, would have also loved this.

It is truly amazing to be left with a surprise from your loved one, so we were curious to find out what was Holly’s first thought when she found out that there was something that her grandparents had left her and whether she had any guess what it might have been. The woman shared that just like some of the other users suggested, she thought she might receive some vintage toys, but instead got something that was “just as amazing and even more so thoughtful.”

The woman also took time to share some of her theories on how these presents were only found now

Having in mind how many people were interested in this story, some providing useful tips, and some being more skeptical about the situation, Holly revealed that these comments made her feel both disappointed and, at the same time, delighted. She was saddened by some of the comments stating that she is ungrateful and even questioning the truthfulness of this story. The TikTok user revealed that her boyfriend helped her to disregard these negative comments, saying that they are not worth focusing on. What Holly is happy about is the reactions from those who found this story important and inspiring.

Holly also tried to understand how the Christmas cards and the money from their great grandparents ended up with the rest of the gifts

The TikTok user revealed that this situation gave an idea other people to surprise their loved ones by leaving unexpected gifts themselves: “a lot of people have said they want to hide gifts for their children and/or grandchildren to find after their passing to have a special last holiday as well.”

Not quite the same, but my mom saves Christmas paper and ribbons and we reuse them every year. Everything's stored in an old suitcase (that used to be my ps1 travel case). Well, this Christmas, I ended up using some REALLY old wrapping paper for her gift. Like, really, REALLY old. First, I noticed the still-attached sticker tag was addressed to my deadname (that I haven't used since graduating high school 14 years ago). Then, I noticed it was from my Nana AND my Granddad (who died my first year of high school, 17 years ago). And THEN I realised that it wasn't just addressed to me, but also my brother, and BOTH my parents--- who have been divorced for over 25 years. So yeah, SUPER old paper. It was kinda wild.

How lucky to find this treasure trove of gifts and memories! I have a small family, and we all live in small houses, so I don't think anything like this could ever happen to us, as nothing would go unnoticed for that long. This year though, right after my mom passed at age 96, we found a box containing every card she'd ever received for any occasion, from when we were preschoolers up to the present. We had a lot of tears and smiles while going through the box.
