Think Norway, and the first thing that comes to mind are fjords, blonde people and Vikings - not fairy tale architecture.
Below, you’ll find photographs of architecture in the Norwegian countryside that looks like it’s been taken straight from a fairy tale. The architectural styles range from Stave churches, which were built during the Middle Ages, to ghostly natural waterfalls and traditional wooden houses constructed in the Norwegian vernacular style (byggeskikk) during the 19th century.
Let us know which of the pictures you think wouldn’t be out of place in a fairy tale, and as always, feel free to submit your own examples from your own travels in Norway.

Natural Swimming Pool In The Forest
I took this pic and got the semantics and the background all wrong. It's not a swimming pool, it's not natural and all that. It's a water reservoir made for some rich folks a century ago. Still nice, though ...
Load More Replies...nothing natural about it? the water is coming from a natural source. c'mon people...how can humans find something negative in even the most beautiful things...
Google "natural swimming pools". They're also referred to as green, or organic pools...
Actually, it is not a swimming pool, it was used as a water supply for a farm. The farm is long gone, but the water supply is still there. I used to live nearby, it is actually well within Oslo's city borders.
What could be better than that, you know that concrete keeping the water cool? Still fantastic!
sit at night just looking at the stars with a good bottle of wine and my best girl, what do you think Deb
there is nothing natural aboud this it's manmade look with your eyes

Though it's not inside a cave, this feels a lot like the lake Harry Potter and Dumbledore visited. I used to see Potter-like things often, but it's been a long time.

This is not the smallest church in Norway. This is the smallest stave church. The smallest church in Norway is St. Georgs kapell in Neiden.

All the pictures are awesome , I could live there , I have Norwegian in me on my grandma side . Looks so peaceful and beautiful .
Love these pictures! I've been to Norway a few times now--have family there--but there are obviously many wondrous sights I have not yet seen, and would love to!!! :-)

I lived there when I was young. I would love to retire there. They left out so many more pictures that show the beauty.. The people there are so kind and the crime is low.
My heritage....no wonder I natively respond to this. Awesome. Thank you
Norway is stupendly beautiful, and horendus expensive to be in. Try buy a pizza in Oslo, and you understand what I mean. 20 euro is not impossible. But other than that - one of the worlds most beautiful countries.
Erik. They also make more money than we do and Oslo is a city and all cities are more expensive.
Load More Replies...I've never seen such beautiful places! I'd love to see Norway so much.
My dream destination... Anyone from Norway, just one question, doesn't the green on the roof rot the house?
They put a special cover /cloth between the roof and the soil which protects the roof.
Load More Replies...Many wonderful pictures of Norway! Unfortunately, not many showcasing fairy tale architecture.
Absolutely beautiful. I especially like the barn with the circular earthen ramp. Everything, however, is stunningly beautiful. God did good!
I really need to move there away from all the chaos of the United States, I really need peace and quiet in my life. I'm not afraid of snow etc. I live in the North as it is.
Honestly, you haven't even lived cold yet if you live in the USA. Unless you live in Alaska, which I have a strong inclination to believe you do not. You do not understand the pain of having 8 hours of sunlight, of -40 degree weather (fyi, celcius and fahrenheit overlap around this temperature.) and having to deal with it for 6 or more months of the year. You probably wouldn't know how to deal with the little creek in your backyard turning to a major flood, rolling boulders down your backyard during the thaw. I don't mean to be a Debby Downer, but you've probably greatly over estimated your ability to survive in harsh conditions. If you think living in the USA is chaos, you have no idea what living out there would be like. To be completely segregated from society, at the mercy of nature. I mean, even being able to make a rebuke would be one of the things you'd have to sacrifice. Pretty sure all these places don't have a wifi.
Load More Replies...I think I need to go to Norway. It's just like a fantasy...beautiful! Jackie Drown
Beautiful places that inspired artists illustating fairy tales!
Norway blew me away, I only have been once, in February, Rain, hail and snow the whole week, in bleak forests and almost black and white tones...Pure magic was in the air!!
A lot are pretty and cool looking but not all were fairytale looking let alone architecture ones. Mostly they are just really pretty locations.
