“An Entitled Mother Rips Open The Doors Of My Ambulance, And It Does Not End Well For Her”
Paramedics see a lot of things, but even Reddit user u/Ok_Interview_1739 wasn’t ready for what he experienced a few months back—even though the guy had been in the EMS for nearly a decade.
It all started when the Redditor and his team went to help an elderly lady who had an accident at her home. As they tried to take her to a hospital, her neighbor got in the way. But not to make sure if the lady was OK or anything. The woman needed someone to look after her kids the next day and thought the senior who was having a medical emergency had to be there for this. You know, because she lives close by and her care is free.

It’s obvious we shouldn’t give the woman mentioned in the post a pass for what she has done, but many American parents get a headache whenever they’re thinking about childcare, which is getting more expensive than ever.
The Demanding Change report found that the national average annual cost of childcare in 2020 (the latest data available) reached $10,174.
This figure accounts for more than 10% of the median income for a married couple and more than 35% percent of the median income for a single parent.
To put the number into perspective, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that parents spend no more than 7% of their household income on childcare. The report also discovered that the average increase in the cost of childcare is outpacing inflation by more than 3%, so parents need to stretch their dollars further than ever before.
This growing gap has resulted in thousands of parents leaving the workforce. Especially mothers.
“One of the repercussions for parents that we’re starting to see is the exit of women from the workforce,” Child Care Aware senior data analyst Kristina Haynie told CNBC Make It. “Sometimes it’s just not worth it to work because the money that you’re making is all going toward child care.”
It’s a problem that researchers think is fueled in part by the difficulties that child-care centers are having in attracting talent. Offering competitive wages requires raising prices, but raising prices forces some parents to pull their children out because they simply can’t afford it.
For many parents, the alternative to quitting their jobs to take care of their kids is to enlist the help of family, friends, and neighbors, Haynie said.
“It’s difficult to try to cobble together all these different child-care solutions just so that they can keep working for the same paycheck when everything is getting so expensive,” she said. “[It’s putting childcare] just that much more out of reach.”
So again, while this doesn’t give you the right to assault the paramedics when they’re taking away your nanny-neighbor, sadly, there are probably many more parents who would at least have the thought pop into their head.

Oh no, no, no. Someone from social services needs to be reviewing this old ladies living arrangements. Elderly at home suffering falls they have no recollection of occurring needs to be reported and an assessment of living arrangements and any unsafe issues in the home addressed. This will also lead to discovery, hopefully, of any potential elderly abuse by visitors or neighbours.
I'd still refrain from sending them to a retirement home without their will, it'll just make them miserable. My late grandmother's best friend fell and was put in a retirement home against her will after she fell and her house was deemed unsafe for her because it had stairs. Long story short, she hated the retirement home and got extremely depressed, looked visually worse every time I visited her with grandma and then died less than two months later. My grandma remained in her house after she fell (because she fell off the toilet, and had no stairs, I still remember her calling my mother and telling her that the toilet was a b***h) and lived for 8 more years before she passed away. However, you are right that someone has to check for elderly abuse, that neighbor Karen really is a POS. Glad that my granny never had a neighbor like that.

Having the odd idiot neighbour is annoying but normal but this wasn't normal. The neighbours behaviour was so irrational that the circumstances should really be investigated.
They need to do a wellness check on the nutty one for the kids sake.

If you don't call CPS when a neighbor dumps their kids on you, you are just enabling them. I would have called the cops the first time it happened. This woman doesn't sound like she is in good enough health (even before the accident) to watch children.
As a mandated reporter in the US it is not our job to "prove" anything. We are required to report if there is a "suspicion." It's up to social services to do the actual investigation. You were told the children were dropped off, unannounced, with a frail, elderly neighbor. That's neglect right there. Then you witnessed the woman trying to yank the lady out of the ambulance. That is clear cut elder abuse. This guy failed in his duty to protect. Maybe social services would investigate and say there's nothing they could do. But at least they're on the radar now.

You should take neighbor to hospital as well. For mental state examination, or maybe for suspected drug abuse. Sane person don't do this.

Uh no. Contrary to an above comment the thought of assaulting an EMS employee or trying to rip someone out of the back of an ambulance truck for my own selfish entitlements NEVER ever crossed my mind.
Blood thinners are a b***h, my mum's on them after microstrokes, her arms look bruised to hell, the bruises don't disappear because of the thinners.
That Karen seems to think that her neighbor is her 24/7 unpaid servant. Glad to hear that nasty woman got the tazie. The PoPo won't put up with any Karen BS.
All that may be true, but this woman sounds either mental or really entitled. Not being able to afford childcare didn't cause her to complain that the emergency services woke her up.
