Elon Musk Picked A Twitter Fight With Bernie Sanders Over Tax Policy And The Tesla CEO Got Roasted In These 19 Tweets
Social media, for whatever reason, often brings out the worst in people. They stir up drama or just argue for the sake of it even if their arguments lack logic. Sometimes it’s funny to read what people are thinking and what they consider important.
It gets elevated to a whole other level when we are talking about famous people. Usually anonymous comments don’t have a lot of significance, but famous people have a lot of influence on others and many look up to them so when they get involved in petty drama, it doesn’t set a very good example.
Also, when well-known people do it, there are a lot more opinions on their actions. The past few days, Twitter users can’t stop talking about a tweet Elon Musk posted. It was actually a reply to Bernie Sanders’ thought that wealthy people should pay more taxes. The multibillionaire was probably not fond of the idea and the best response he came up with was to poke fun at his age.
More info: Twitter
Twitter witnessed a little bit of a sparring match between politician Bernie Sanders and Tesla CEO Elon Musk

Bernie Sanders shared his thought on Twitter that the US should make the extremely wealthy pay more in taxes

The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, has 63.8 million followers and is known for trolling and chaotic tweets. But this time Twitter users were not happy with one of his latest remarks.
He replied to Bernie Sanders’ tweet saying “We must demand that the extremely wealthy pay their fair share. Period.” with “I keep forgetting that you’re still alive.” Which is not very nice as the Senator is quite a popular politician and is still active despite being 80 years old.

Elon Musk never agreed with the idea and replied to the tweet making a lame joke about how he keeps forgetting the politician is still alive

That didn’t go unnoticed and other Twitter users couldn’t understand why super rich people are so attached to their money

It is known that Bernie Sanders supports plans to make the main source of US energy from renewables and that would serve Tesla. However, it is also known that Sanders thinks that super-rich people should pay proportionate taxes. Elon Musk, who holds the highest net worth, is completely against what is often called “billionaire’s income tax.”
This was evident from the exchange of tweets but people couldn’t let the childish response slide. Instead of providing arguments, Elon Musk thought that to make the politician’s opinion worthless it would be enough to bring attention to how old he is. He hints that the Senator is so irrelevant that he already buried him in his head.

People found Elon’s tweet to be funny in an ironic way and also distasteful as well as rude

Not only did Elon Musk make fun of how old Sanders is but also came back after an hour with another reply, “Want me to sell more stock, Bernie? Just say the word …” Most probably referring to the fact he sold about $6.9 billion worth of stock just last week.
Musk’s rant didn’t stop there and he responded to his followers’ tweets by further mocking the politician, saying “Bernie is a taker, not a maker” or agreeing with people who also thought ‘billionaire’s tax’ is unnecessary.
After all, the money they would pay in taxes would come back to improve the life of American citizens

Yet how many people can relate to Musk’s $285 billion net worth? Definitely not a lot, so that is why the tweet received so much backlash. People who earn a lot less pay their taxes and it can be a big chunk of their earnings, but they understand that what very rich people pay currently is a drop in the sea.
If billionaires would pay higher taxes, everyone would benefit from that because tax money would go to the government which could invest in technology, education, public transportation, healthcare, defense and interest on government debt.
While some people were taken aback by the childish trolling, others started trolling themselves

Twitter users applied the phrase “I keep forgetting that you’re still alive” to other contexts and the results will give you a good laugh

Elon Musk disagrees and tweeted “Eventually, they run out of other people’s money and then they come for you” on October 26th. Other people who oppose the tax say it is unconstitutional and that is a strong argument when the constitution is the legal basis of the country.
But statistics show that more Americans would agree with the ‘billionaire tax’ and that is reflected in the responses on Twitter under Elon Musk’s comment. Twitter users were trolling the billionaire, clearly showing that they find it funny when a person with such wealth finds taxes so repulsive when everyone else has to do it.

What do you think of Elon Musk’s response to Sanders’ tweet? Do you think extra wealthy people should pay higher taxes because they were lucky to find themselves in such a position? Or do you think that it would be unfair to make people pay only because they can? Let’s have a discussion in the comments!
once again ... the US is the 4th worst country on earth considering wealth inequality. the 3 richest men own more than the bottom 50% of the population. the top 10% own almost 80% !!! that's insane.
Elon Musk still isn’t American, he just lives here. We didn’t have a choice in the matter.
your comment doesn't even make sense !! the problem is not his nationality !! he became a greedy billionaire that exploits his employees thanks to the f****d up american system. are you telling me the US are not responsible for their taxation ??
Is whining about the problems of a different country than the one you live in cathartic for you?
is insulting someone instead of discussing basing your comments on facts a valid way to win an argument for you ? i was talking about the tax system in the US ... you answered Elon Musk is not american ... doesn't make any sense !! you're alias is maybe not the best one for you ... but yeah !! keep your eyes closed. you've been brainwashed way too much anyway. ignorance is bliss as they say. have a great life !!
Thanks for the essay. I was saying your cute little statistic would have been incorrect had Elon not moved here, but I figured if you couldn’t understand something so blatantly obvious the first time there wouldn’t be a point in explaining it. Also- do you not know a way to end a sentence without spaced double exclamation points !!
oh poor insecure thing that has absolutely no data or valid point and needs to insult other people to feel valuable ... so sad !! but your dishonesty doesn't change anything about facts. sooo ... keep your eyes closed. that's way more comfortable for sure. !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !!
Please stop commenting, it’s giving me secondhand embarrassment. My point is that if you want the US’s situation to change, virtue signaling for internet points is not the way to go.
if you don't want me to answer your replies ... just don't reply ! i won't shut up just because your unable to face reality and are disturbed by facts. data doesn't lie unlike you ... but i guess if knowledge scares you that much it explains a lot. “There is no worse blind man than the one who doesn’t want to see. There is no worse deaf man than the one who doesn’t want to hear. And there is no worse madman than the one who doesn’t want to understand.” ... if you've been brainwashed to th point that you believe it's normal accepting that your own government treats you like tht, that's sad

That stat is only factual because most of the innovation comes from America. Innovation that we the people find valuable and will pay to the innovators. Elon wouldn't be rich if the consumers didn't find his product to be worth more than the money in their own bank account.
Down voted Tobin based on the first sentence alone. Even as an American I know better than to believe that sh!t.
Elon Musk himself is an immigrant from South Africa. Most innovation comes from America? Only with help from (cue Hamilton soundtrack) “immigrants: we get the job done.”
Bud Im from Germany... But my point is still true. Did he innovate from South Africa? How about the founders of Google and their families? They did it all from America. I never claimed that the innovations purely came from American people. Nice fallacy though.
LOL he wouldn't be rich if he wouldn't have stolen the money from PayPal account holders and then sold PayPal.
He was born rich, so even without PayPal he’d have his family’s mining wealth. His is not a Horatio Alger story.

So what? You think you're entitled to the wealth of those people via confiscatory taxation?
Confiscatory taxation? Tax rules are made by politicians, and those rules change. They currently heavily favor the wealthy. That's why people say to pay their "fair" share.
You believe there is a way to honestly earn billions of dollars without doing it on the very back of your employees? Do you even realize how much he possesses?
He possesses little comparatively. Most of his wealth is stocks which isn't a possession.

There is nothing wrong with wealth inequality. Poverty is a problem, but whining about other people having more than you is just selfish and petty.
i think you might want to reconsider your comment ... what does provoke poverty if it's not wealth inequality ?? your comment doesn't make any sense. oh and if you need to insult people who disagree you may need to work on your insecurities before trying to argue with anyone

Drugs, bad decisions, unplanned pregnancies, parents who don't care to educate their kids, mental health issues (probably the biggest one)... there's a lot of reasons for poverty other than the fact that there are rich people out there.

Wealth inequality is not related to poverty. When everyone is equally poor, they are still poor. When everyone is middle-class or higher, they are all pretty fine despite wealth inequality. Those are totally unrelated issues. Assuming that poverty is caused by wealth inequality almost implies that the wealth of someone has somehow been "taken" from someone else, which is not true. Wealth is created, not harvested, so when you are rich this money is your own creation, you did not take it from anyone and neither did you prevent anyone from having the opportunity to get it.
Which middle classes are all pretty fine?? The one that hardly exists anymore because of things like major wealth inequality? That one??!! Cause majority of people i know, work with, & live amongst are in that group & we are far from "pretty fine"...
Ryan, the US doesn't have a middle class anymore. "Reaganomics" made sure of that.
Ryan, only governments may "create" wealth. As they are the only authority which may issue currency. If you acquire a massive pile of money, you "created" NONE of it. It came to you by way of harvesting it from others. It's literally how money works.
I said "wealth" in the first economical sense, not "currency". People create wealth, and national banks create money to trade this wealth more efficiently.

If you feel insulted whenever someone disagrees with you, you are the problem.
If you are continually butt hurt because no one agrees with you, you *might* be the problem.
saying people who complain about wealth inequality because unlike you they are brave enough to face the sad truth that they are "whining" is a form of insult ... and that they are "selfish" and "petty" too. you're not even honest enough to bear your own words !! that's pathetic. and anyway how asking for equality could be called "selfish" ?? that doesn't even make sense.
You can't point out the fact that insulting someone is bad, then insult them.....

That's selfish and petty because they want to take other people's money. People ask for equality because it will benefit them at other people's expense. "Equality" is just a shorter and more politically correct way to say "steal from them and give to me"
Spoken like someone who has more than he needs and doesn't want to give it up. Your parents didn't encourage you to play nice and share with others when you were a child, huh?

So I am the bad guy for being against theft? Because sharing must be a free decision, or else it is just theft. Also, stop pretending that whoever is against theft is necessarily rich. I am poor, but I am just less selfish than you. Yes, seing that many people have it easier than me is frustrating, but I am not petty enough to try to steal what they have.
Did you seriously just try to gaslight me by claiming that unrestrained greed is less selfish than wanting to help people in need? You truly are pathetic.

Ah, childish rhetoric now. About what I expected from you. I tire of your poor attempts at trolling, they have fallen to grade school levels now. I shall leave it here so you can have your precious "last word" that nobody save you cares about.
Ah, avoiding debate and disguising it as "taking the high road" to fool yourself into thinking you look like you have had a moral victory... A classical technique, but it never works.
Taxation is theft?
No. It's the subscription fee you pay to live in a country and access it's resources like protection(police, armed forces, fire safety...), infrastructure(roads...), and the list goes on...
OMG, “subscription fee” is the best analogy!
I know! I was questioning his view on living in a country which provides public services! ;)

When it is unequal and excessive, yes, it can be.
no you're the bad guy for calling national solidarity "theft" ... that is so dishonest !! these multi billionaires not giving their employees livable wages and becoming the richest people on earth is not acceptable. this is theft. your comments show you clearly have it way easier than many many people and you still need them to suffer to feel valuable yourself. that's a very toxic mindset !! and trying to pretend that poor people are responsible for their situation is so unfair and false !! the system makes it impossible for them to evolve. but sure, ignorance is bliss and it's way more comfortable to blame the victims than to look at yourself
Only very few poor people are responsible for their situation. Usually, they are just the victims of unfortunate circumstances that prevented them from earning more despite their will and efforts.
Straight out of the conservative handbook.

LOL you couldn't prove someone wrong if you tried. Oh wait you have. Loser.
Such a state of denial is pathetic, but not in a funny way anymore... Your cringe is just sad.
Why do you you conservatives hate women? It's such a sad pathetic show of insecurity. And I'll tell you people trying to overthrow our government and killing five cops in the process isn't funny either.
Conservatives don't hate women. You are just a liar making up fictional arguments because you know you are wrong so you try to change the subject to hide it.
Actions speak louder than words. Conservatives HATE women. In America all the new conservatives are wife beaters. Trump Trash never met a wife beater they don't want to endorse. Stand up for your people!
Wow... I can't even debate that. I can't explain you why your logic is biased or why you misunderstand a concept, because those are just wrong facts. The things you just said are lies, and you are so ridiculous you can't possibly not be embarrassed by your own stubbornness.
No they're not. Conservatives in the United States hate women. They want control over our bodies and they will not get it. Take your head out of your own ass and pay attention.
