There is still good in this world. Good dogs, I mean. And it's our job to protect them. One of the best ways to show compassion to our four-legged best friends is to adopt those in need.
About 3.3 million dogs end up in animal shelters across the United States every year, and about 670K of them are euthanized. While these numbers are heartbreaking, the latter has been steadily declining. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) says that is one of the main reasons why there is an increase in the percentage of animals adopted.
The subreddit r/BeforeNAfterAdoption is the perfect proof of rising dog adoption rates. It has over 274K members, many of which post pictures, revealing the spectacular transformations their adorable dogs have gone through. Scroll down to check these before and after photos out and fire up Bored Panda's equally touching posts about rescue pets here and here. It's incredible to see what love can do.

A Korean Family Rescued This Golden From A Breeding Facility. Went From 15 Lbs To A Healthy 60 Lbs
The first photo of this retriever is heartbreaking. The poor thing was just skin and bones. The breeding facility was cruel beyond belief. I hope that it was shut down, fined, and never had the chance to resurface again. And, the dogs got to go to wonderful homes.
It does not even look like a dog in the first picture.
Load More Replies...Tjhat is what I thought so so bones and no flesh..like the prison camps.
Load More Replies...Holy sh*t. I literally felt some pain in my heart after seeing this. Poor dogs we don't see.
Oh my god!!! That is so sad!!! Poor girl!!! We have 2 chihuahuas and both of them weigh 15 pounds!!! A golden lab should not look like that!!! Poor little girl. 😔 😔😔😔😭😭😭
I feel like I'm going to get sick....who the HELL could do this?!? Pure evil, I can't think of anything else
It's estimated that 78 million dogs are owned in the United States. That means that roughly 44% of all households in the country have pet dogs. The American Pet Products Association said that 34% of them are purchased from breeders and 23% are obtained from a dog shelter or humane society.
My Gorgeous Pupper With Her Puppies Before I Adopted Her And Now 3.5 Years Later
She could be a model. Alert, gorgeous, poised, with beautiful eyes and a physique all other doggos would (if they gave a damn) envy. Be proud to have her in your family!
Problematic and aggressive behaviors, the dog growing larger than expected, or various health problems are reported to be the most common reasons why owners rehome their pets. However, as this post proves, there still are kind-hearted, responsible people who aren't afraid of these challenges their cute dogs give.
Meet Anna! She Was Living On The Streets Of Italy Before My Mom Brought Her To Germany. Now She's Happy And Loves Her Buddy Iluq
I wish she could talk - but I bet she thanks you every day. Gorgeous and healthy!
The Shelter I Volunteer For Has Incredible Before And After’s
It pains me to see any animal fearful, skeletal, and miserable. Thank you for breathing life back into this dog.
It's true! You can see such fear in the eyes of the pup in the first two photos and then see the strength and confidence in the last. That's the way a dog should look.
Load More Replies...I don't think I can see anymore. It literally pains me. So glad they got rescued.
You can see the heartbreak and defeat in their eyes. I will never understand how a person could treat any animal this way, or to walk on by, pretending not to notice this poor soul. Thank you, to who ever it was that stopped to help this beauty get their chance at a forever, loving home.
Amazing How Love Changes Someone
We Found Her Infested With Fleas On The Curb 3 Months Ago. Her Name Is Sky And She Likes The Rain.
From A Severe Case Of Mange And Dumpster Diving In The Streets Of San Antonio To 3 Months Later Loving Life, Growing, And Learning Sign Language! Meet Our Deaf Dog, Rue!
I Broke The Rules And Took Something From An Abandoned Church
No One Wanted To Adopt Him Because Of His Cropped Ears And "Scary" Looking Face. He Had Stopped Eating At The Pound And Was Severely Underweight. Now Bronco Is Healthy, Always Smiling, And Loved By Everyone He Meets
People who crop ears and tails are pieces of s**t, I'm glad this dog got a loving home!
also, people refusing to adopt because of cropped ears are pieces of s**t, just less smelly perhaps
Load More Replies...There is no excuse for cropping and docking if an owner even does minimal research they will immediately know that it's unnecessary and cruel. Doing s**t so a dog fits a breed standard is repulsive and selfish. The ONLY thing I would understand is if your pup keeps breaking it's tail from wagging too hard or if the ears Are severely damaged and it would be in the dogs best interest. Not to achieve a look
Please everyone ...do not overlook pitties at the shelters. They are very generous with their love and appreciation! Excellent dogs.
When We Met Her In The Shelter My Daughter Immediately Started Whispering In Her Ear “Your Okay, We’ll Take You Home And Keep You Safe, We Love You Already”
And again a child completely understanding the dog's state of mind and take the wheel! Watch and learn adults!
Bless your family, the stats say, more people are adopting, let's pray one day there will be no need for animal shelters !!!
I Adopted 13 Year Old Phyllis One Year Ago Today! She Came In Emaciated, Flea Anemic And With A 5 Lb Tumour On Her Side. No One Thought She Was Going To Make It And Here We Are One Year Later! Happy Adoption Day, My Little Philly Cheesesteak!
You are an angel for adopting her. Senior pets are seldom adopted, and they're often times the Best!
Adoption Day vs. Today. She Has Come A Long Way And Is Spoiled Rotten
Are dogs in this bad shape being adopted out? I thought they usually went to a foster home to gain weight and get healthy. But maybe that's different in each country!
Happy to see a "pitbull-type" on here! It breaks my heart how difficult it is for them to find loving homes compared to other breeds.
Amazing he was still alive, Bless you for giving him love ,and all he needs !!!
New Foster Pup Nic, She’s Come So Far Already!
This poor dog has open wounds! I can only imagine the level of neglect she must have suffered. Some people don't deserve the privilege of having a pet. I'm glad to see that she is doing much better.
Looks like a really bad case of mange, which could've been treated at the early stage if the owner had bothered to take her to the vet
Load More Replies...I can never understand how anyone could let a dog get so far down and miserable. Now she is absolutely beautiful.
This Is Ruthie, Our 16yr Old Chihuahua Mix. December Close To Death In The Shelter Compared To Now. Old Dogs Are Worth Adopting Too!
I'm really happy people are adopting elderly pets! They bring as much happiness to your life as younger pets, and no pet deserves to die of old age at the shelter
She is the best dog! And she’s 17 now ❤️ You can see more Ruthie at www.instagram.com/princessbuttercupdumptruck
Load More Replies...My rescue that I adopted in 2004, had to be put down on January 6th, broke my heart (he would have been 21 years old this year). On January 23, rescued another sweet boy that is 11 years old. He acts like a puppy of 2. Love him dearly. Senior pets are awesome!
Absolutely they are. Senior dogs rock, just like little Ruthie!!! She’s perfect!!!
Those ears! They tell the story of her life. What a tough little cookie.
Bless you, and yes senior cats and dogs need love, especially for the time they have left !!!
Gus Gus Was Saved From The Meat Trade In China. He Just Moved Into His Forever Home And Now Gets To Spend His Vacations In Tahoe
I'm a south African Chinese and live in South Africa. I think its utterly horrific the way SOME Asian cultures in the east treat and kill animals😡 Not only for food but for medicinal purposes. Rhino horns have no medicinal properties whatsoever. It' Keratin stupid Asians, Keratin!!! (Again some Asians not all) Neither does bear bile have medicinal value. Don't get me started on ivory. I know its for aesthetics, jewellery etc. BUT REALLY??? Money is the route of all evil😡😔
Load More Replies...ok but f**k chinese people who really eat dogs and cats f**k u with my whole heart ☺️
I don’t get why people don’t get upset about the cow market in the USA, yet this offends them.
right? the meat trade is cruel, but not because of what animal, because of how they treat the animal. i’m in the us, but won’t eat meat unless i know where it came from and that it was treated humanely during its lifetime.
Load More Replies...This is one of the saddest and most vile pictures I have ever seen. No fur baby deserves to have to endure this kind of life!

Timmy Was Hit Over The Head With A Blunt Object By His Racing Trainer. After Surgery To Repair His Broken Skull, Therapy To Help Him Regain Proper Use Of His Legs And Plenty Of Tlc He Was Rehomed And Lived Everyday To The Fullest!
What the hell? I hope that someone took a blunt object to that horrible trainer. Dogs are sentient beings, not just property. I'm happy that the dog made it through the trauma.
Unfortunately this is quite common with Greyhounds. They suffer the most horrible abuse and death.
Load More Replies...This is terrible and breaks my heart. i hate people. We our the only things in nature that are so cruel for noooo reason :(
Cruelty to animals makes me so angry! How any person can do this to a helpless animal is beyond me. When a person does this there has to be other people that witness it. If they see it and don't reach out for help for the animal they are just as bad as the person doing it. I just don't understand why people do this to innocent animals.
I'm sure he wasnt . Animal cruelty is looked at by the law as no more severe than too many traffic tickets.

It is amazing the sense of relief a doggy shows when they realize they are really safe
That baby is a cutie, but being so skinny must have concerned you, Bless you for adopting !!!

This Is Dobby! She Came Into My Life A Few Months Ago After Terrible Neglect From Her Previous Owners. With Some Love And Care (And A Lot Of Food) She Has Turned Into A Whole New Dog! She Is My Everything

My Next-Door Neighbors Abandoned Their Dog And Got A New Puppy. She Was In The Shelter For A Full Month Before I Realized What Happened. This Is Missy In The Shelter, And When She Realized She's Never Going Back
Your neighbours are a******s for trading in a family member for a newer model. Why couldn't they just keep both?
You'll probably adopt your stupid neighbours' new pet sooner than you think...
Too many morons that should never ever, have any pet, living next door I wonder what they will think, when they see the dog you have, wish those people could suffer, Karma !!!
And they're going to abandon that puppy and get a new one. They should be stopped.
This happens all the time a******s like them have a dog and then decide they want another because theirs isn't good enough then they decide two dogs are too much work or that the new puppy doesn't get along with their old one and just get rid of their old dog I think you should suck it the f**k up or find a forever home for your new one instead of dumping the one that has been with you the the whole time so yeah f**k these people with all of my heart

Austin fuckkers. Animal abuse is rampant worldwide, not just in third world countries.
In the first photo, easy to see a sad and painful baby Bless you for adopting !!!
This Is Casey, A Senior Who Was Used For Breeding Then Dumped On The Roadside With A Very Large Tumor & A Blind Eye
Casey is adorable, does not look like a senior, thanks for adopting, and perhaps saved a life, being a senior, I adopted a terrier mix from the city shelter, he was perhaps near two years old, but there were a few things I noticed that made me feel, he had escaped a puppy mill, he was an escape artist, but he finally understood he had a terrific loving home !!!
I just love it when they have one ear up and one down. Makes ME happy to see their expression of happiness and a little mischief.
Took In This Sweet Angel When I Heard She Was About To Be Tossed In The Garbage By A Breeder For Being A Runt. Four Months Later, And Yumi Is The Most Playful, Loving, Healthy Gal
SOME breeders are absolutely wonderful. I agree that you should always adopt, but a close friend of mine breeds show dogs and her animals are more loved and spoiled than any others I know.
Load More Replies...What a lovely baby, love her eyes and her smile, Bless you for adopting !!!
Ruth Was Used For Breeding And Then Dumped. She Had Soft, Tender Paws From Being Locked Up All The Time And Was Found Tied To A Fence In The July Heat. I Was Honestly A Little Afraid At First But She Is So Docile And Sweet. She Was Adopted By People Who Love And Spoil Her. Her Face Says Everything
Not true breeders. Just the puppy mill breeders who are only in it for the money. Pit Bull "mills", I'm scared to say, are probably used for dog fighting. It breaks my heart that this kind of thing still goes on.
Load More Replies...Please don't tell us you are a "good" breeder. Anyone contributing to the birth of more dogs and cats is heartless, when there are so many existing dogs and cats who need homes. You are just using them to make money. Get a designer dog at a shelter - there are many of them there, cast aside by people who went to breeders and then decided that a dog or cat was inconvenient. These are people who never think of going to shelter because all they care about is the dog's looks or papers -otherwise, they would want to save a life at a shelter.
You do realise that not all countries have homeless dogs? I can't just walk in to a shelter to get a dog, because we don't really have any.
Load More Replies...So many folks still believe Pitties are inherently mean. In fact, they are just big ol' lap dogs - snugglers and...Comedians! So happy you got Ruth.
A beautiful baby, thanks for adopting, if I found a puppy mill I won't say what I would be capable of doing to those scums, we need some undercover people to find and close them, to think of so many animals suffering, in the name of money !!!

20 bullets or 20 pellets? My money is on the latter... Not that it makes anything acceptable; but at 20 bullets there would be bigger wounds and several separate dog-parts.

This Dog Came In Severely Matted At My Work. Got Adopted Just Like That! So I Gave Him A Trim Down For His New Adopter!!
When I worked at a groomers, we often did this for strays. We'd give them a trim and a bath, clip their nails and brush their teeth. We'd take them to the vets to check for microchips. We'd give them treats and food and then start running through the customer base of people that indicated that they were "Looking for a new member of the family" after it was obvious there was no owner. In the year I was there..we got 8 puppers adopted out this way.
It took guts to adopt him in that Before photo. Think of all the love and pampering he will get!

Agreed. Big thank yous to all involved in helping these poor creatures.

RTÉ tv in Ireland showed the dark side of greyhound racing in a programme a couple of years ago where they highlighted the horrific things trainers did to their dogs as well as the evil ways they disposed of them if they didn't perform well or they came to the end of their running life which falls far short of their actual life span. Clubbing them or tying up in large sacks and throwing them into deep water to drown were just 2 things they did as well as slitting their throats or shooting them. It was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Afterward Barry's tea, a major sponsor for greyhound racing in Ireland as well as other sponsors pulled out of their agreements with the sport in absolute disgust. These greyhound owners are the lowest of the low. The dogs are nothing but a way to make money. If the don't perform they are not allowed to live. It's a great tragedy.
God bless the people that help to save these poor puppies from the trauma they have endured. Glad to see the are all in happy homes.
