Ah, The Great Wall Of China! A beautifully crafted piece of history. Other than knowing it was a long wall that could possibly be seen from space, I’ve never really known that much. Alas! I have found a list of interesting facts that certainly peaked my interest. And, one day, I will see it in person, but until then – I’ll live vicariously through these pictures and facts.

1. Chairman Mao and the Cultural Revolution of the 1970s encouraged home builders to take pieces of the wall to build their homes

2. Estimates are it took anywhere from 1700 to over 2000 years to build the Great Wall

3. Over 1,000,000 people died building it! Oh and… they’re probably paved right into it…

4. From 1933 to 1938 Japan and China were involved in a deadly conflict along the Great Wall – That is rarely known and overshadowed by WWII

5. If you were hungry enough… you could probably eat it O_o sticky rice and slake lime was used during the original build.
