Stunning Or Gross? Taiwanese Photographer Explores Issues Of Womanhood
511Kviews
Yung Cheng Lin, also known as “3cm”, is an extremely talented Taiwanese photographer. She explores the topics of womanhood – sexuality, birth, menstruation, maturity, the obstacles in front of women and the expectations towards them in today’s society.
In sometimes disturbing and surreal photos, he succeeds in touching us deeply, make us stop and think. All this is done by using everyday objects, simple colors and the magic of light. And unlike many others who try to stand out by simply shocking the audience, Yung Cheng Lin gives us something more than that – the sparkle that evokes sensation of delicacy and rebellion, the sparkle of a true talent.

I just don't understand some photos :(
I thought it was me and the fact I am a guy.. but guess not. But you can always play "spot the fly" :D
Lol.
Didn't understand some of them either.
I figured a few (I think): 1- It's about forcing women to be thin and skinny. 2- Portraying woman as a platform for self desires, a table. 3- Her vagina is the center of attention, it's what matters most to people. 4- Expected to keep a hairless armpit, it's painful and annoying but it's the only expected norm. 5- Through oral sex, a woman is expected to be perfectly fine with "the other parts" as a normal part of the foreplay. 6- Testing if she is skinny enough, not caring about the face. 7- (The nipple sushi) objectification of women disregarding the falling tear. 8- No idea. 9- Women are forced to wear a bra and it's painful. 10- Expected to receive a man's "load" on her body and to view it as "yummy". 11- Period pains. 12- She, as whole person, is simply a vagina. 13- Violence against women. And tears. 14- SO says "I love you (the flower)" still kills her. 15- Trans women are bugged. 16- During period, wears pads. Something that should be strictly hidden and only sh
Got me stumped!
i don't understand too
I don't understand ANY of them. And too gross for me.
you don't want to really
So you do understand others. That's positive. You should notice the precision of the vision, the focused composition, the individuality of the means used to express the ideas. You are witnessing a true creator, someone making images that none of us have seen before. It isn't imitative, it isn't ordinary, it isn't superficial. No need to like all his photos (this is just a selection made by the author, with the author's own eye). If you find one photo that speaks to you, that's enough.
how could you not... I do..
Yep, so do I.

But some dumb ass will pay 100,000s of dollars for the original of these photos!!!
What does it matter to you? Some people understand these and relate to it. If you can't then, just deal with it.
If they did pay that, it would be due to the fact that they liked and appreciated the photograph(s), and that's nothing to do with you...
I guess to some people its artistic but it just puts me off. Its obviously supposed to be edgy...but to me its over the top for no reason other than to be over the top...and get people talking about it.
Art's job is to make people think and maybe open up a dialogue. It did its job.
Art is all about over the top. It's individual...It's unique. What's over the top to you is "spot on" for others.
Stephen... it's not just modern art. What about surrealism? Cubism? All these types of artwork were meant to puzzle people and have them give a personal interpretation of it. It's suppose to push people's buttons and make people wonder "what am I looking at?" ... A lot of the time you will find people either love it or hate it.

NO. You are retarded if you think art is all about over the top. That is exactly why I hate modern art. It is about relaying a message, not shoving a bunch of random shit on a picture or whatever to be "over the top". "hey lets dump 40 tons of sand on the floor at our exhibition space!" "Why?" "because it is cool and radical" And then I step in and for the fucking life of me figure out why the fuck is there sand on the floor. The fucking shit is getting into my shoes and is distracting. The art pieces are POS over the top sacks of shit which require no skill to assemble or paint. Didn't even give enough of a shit to find out what the whole thing was abooot.
You seem mad, bro.
this is brilliant!

sure. and a diamond too.
I don't like the title of the article... It suggests that ppl should find it gross, thatś why there are so many negative comments. I don't see anything gross at all. I love it!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who had an issue with that! Like, these are issues women face, there's nothing gross about it unless you're referring to the fact that women are overly sexualized, which is something these photos suggest.
I'm not a prude and I really enjoy art ~ however, I don't like this.
This artist is referred to as both "he" and "she." Which one is it?
I'm assuming it was a typo... but after viewing the photos, who knows.
I believe they are nonbinary.
who knows?
If you are looking for a reaction your bound to get one with these photo's . I thought they were totally raw and left a bad taste in my mouth
What do you mean?
Not a fan.
It's kind of sexy. And definitely stunning.
intriguing but would be easier to understand with captions/titles about the meanings.
Real art is meant to be interpreted by the viewer. You cannot just tell someone what to think or feel.
Correction: Art is meant to be... I suppose there is no such thing as real or fake art o.O
These pictures are are so powerful, beautiful. A lot of people are complaining that it's gross, or unfeminine, but that's the point! Art is supposed to be disturbing sometimes, it peels back the falseness and shows the raw truth, disturbing the comfortable and comforting the disturbed.
there is a fly on almost every single photo! what does it have to do with womanhood?
it just made me think womanhood is gross, reminding me of a shit, there's always flies around it, which is really disturbing and i find it offensive as a woman (and im actually hard in any way basically cause i dont give too many fucks, yet im surprised this upset me, specially knowing this is "art".. and there aint anything more subjective than art) oh well.
I find it confusing and kind of sickening...
Why is it sickening? Because it's dealing with issues women face in their everyday lives and you don't want to see them?
The fly, what's up with the fly?!! Uh, now I have to google Yung Cheng Lin and try to find out :-(
Self indulgent crap.
Because obviously these issues only apply to the artist and not EVERY SINGLE WOMAN WHO'S EVER LIVED. Yeah, totally self indulgent.
... How wants ro play spot the fly
He certainly likes flies.
The question is, how did this get so many up votes?
I am also not sure I understand what the photographer is saying with the pictures. I am a women of years and cannot relate to the concept.
STUNNISSIME!!!! LOVE THE WAY SHE ABSTRACTS JUST NORMAL MOMENTS ON A WOMEN'S LIFE!!! JUST BRAVO!
Some of these photos were disturbing and degrading, (not by the artist, but by socially imposed beauty standards that he is accentuating) but they all, at the same time, brought truth back in society's standards of the female population. The artist is free to express his art in any form he chooses, but this is not something that I would be interested in viewing at my local galleries. I do think it is bold and makes a statement. He seems to have good ideas throughout his body of work but I don't care for his form of expression.
Beauty standard are woman's standards; stop victimizing, it's sooo childish
Ew.
Different and sort of silly
hate it
Ice bear finds this gross
I will admit the idea is interesting and the concept of each photo entertaining at best, but it lose some, I don't know, grip, or edges, I guess. It probably means to be edgy, but there's not much atmosphere and mood. It doesn't have much senses of "sharpness" I wished to see in these kind of photos. Really, give it some intensity and I would like it better. But, I'm just someone who seen it that way. Then again, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. :)
Could you imagine if you just found cookies in your underwear? That would be awesome!
Lost Me.
No thanks
Not a fan of the various lighting Lin used but I enjoyed the very provocative topics come to mind in many of them. Some themes, like the fly, are over my head, but others seem fairly straight forward, like pinching of skin, or red glitter between the legs.
Weird o_O
Don't like.
WHAAAAT!!!?? I don't get this at all... very at odds about this
Not to my taste!
Thought provoking
what a fucking nut!
I think gross; I see no reason or meaning in the pictures, unless it is some subversion or fetish of the photographer. When is art not art?
It's disgusting. Absolutely unfeminine and unpleasant. I think I'm not going to eat bananas and cookies for some time....
I HATE THESE PHOTOS!!! MISOGYNY ILLUSTRATED
Some of these are hard to look at...some I get..and then some are ??? But that's art for you! Some of it should cause you to wonder!
so what? Scandal ...
It would have a much more profound effect if it was a little less gross and a little more grace.
that's most likely the entire point, people expect women to be graceful and feminine, and this shows the truth about being a woman-
Ummmm
Hmmm?
Gross, definetely!
Well, that was dumb.
These are stupid. I mean really stupid.
Fabulous. An acute eye, compositional mastery and just plain smart.
I don't get it.

this is a lot of very weird art n pics ,i really didn't like any of it ,i guess someone might , i didn't , and the thing with the fly is implying women stick ,i don't know just too weird

I think I kinda get the message, or at least I could come up with an idea for myself.
good art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable
Maybe to some, this is art; to me, it's just trash...
Ok.....why the housefly? I cannot relate the biscuits on the panties. Really deep art impression. Hahaha
it like a demonstrated that all man in the world is bad....
Some photos are very tough to understand what they want to say.
Dope!
Really spooky.. but certainly showcases few most painful reality of womanhood..
These are incredibly beautiful and powerful. Sorry to any of the people that don't seem to have an imagination, art is supposed to make you think, not quick to judge :P
Love it!
Beautifully and masterfully executed. Great compositions. Some oxymoronic subjects. Sometimes a bit disturbing. Clever. Thought provoking. Love the fly!
gross
looks a bit sadistic
So much negative energy in many of these comments. Strong testimony to the beautiful power in this work.
Negative comments are negative comments, not necessarily a "testimony" of anything; that's a common logical fallacies
Weird but interesting; very original, simple yet provocative

It's disgusting. Absolutely unfeminine and unpleasant.
I really dislike the title of this post. There must be better adjectives to describe how one may feel to these. But let's keep it simple for the pandas, I suppose.
Pretty stupid. Gross only applies to the little cracker 'skid marks' in the panties
absolutely not. the issue of 'torn' sexuality might make the juvenile mind happy; for more 'experienced users' this is just a waste of time.
How is someones self expression a waste of time?
easy. what do you reckon of the 'self expression' of beating someone to death?
Dramatic beaver
very interesting..
Weird, bot cool at the samevtime. It's art. The photos favorite artist must be Salvador Dahli.
