My name is Monica Carvalho, I’m a Swiss-born photographer & digital artist based in Berlin.
I've always been fascinated by art that is challenging for the eyes, so over the years I have developed a passion for creating surreal images that ‘make you look twice’!
My artistic process is to challenge myself to look at the familiar from a new perspective. I combine photos from my travels and everyday life in Photoshop to produce photomontages. My aim is to inspire you and make you look at the world differently!
My artistic motto is simple: to make the ordinary extraordinary! I believe that if you shift your way of looking at ordinary things, they can acquire a new potential: clothes, people, food, architecture, nature, animals - anything has the power to inspire...

Shut Your Moth!
Because a mother's words are like butterflies. Little cocoons that cling, ignored, to the underside of our subconscious until after a mother's voice has faded into memory and her lips lay silent beneath the soil. Then they wriggle loose and surface.These little truths that confront us, quickly forgotten advice suddenly, vitally there. An argument with a spouse and abruptly a butterfly is in attendance, vibrating wings of a far gone Karner blue day and a date gone wrong. A child flutters beneath your hands and promptly a monarch alights upon a figure who holds you close in gentle arms. Eventually they take flight and become less inclined to startle into view from beneath innocent flowers. But still, now and again, they float down from the sky bearing remembrance.

Sorry, but this is nothing extraordinary, just two images stuck together with minimal digital work. The work is good for what it is, but nothing that makes me "look twice".
It's just gimmicky, but I feel like it can get better and more creative.

You're doing yourself no favor if you're insulting people.
thats a little harsh the other person was just trying to make a statement on ur work, i draw and have only just started posting on here and i get criticism for my work and i thank the people for their feed back, your work isnt bad at all so no need to worry just take it into consideration

In reply to HTH Lover: I happily accept constructive feedback on my work, from people who are experienced in the same area (here: Photoshop). This person "Fish" insulted me by saying I only use "minimal" digital work. Do you have any idea how long it takes me to create each of these photomontages? Would you have had found a similarity between a mouse's tail and a trail path? No. It takes a lot of imagination and creativity, and on top of that I only use my own photos, never stock images. In the end, I have 100'000 supportive followers from all over the world. What does that guy have? Just a passion for bringing other people down because he/she is deeply frustrated with him/herself. Happy, secure people have no need to put others down. People like Fish only feel like extinguishing other people's fire because they're unable to light a match and start their own, that's all :)
