I really want to know when "General Knowledge" began including popular entertainment? I think my "IQ" is safe not knowing the 2nd highest grossing movie at the box office.

General knowledge is exactly that - general. It's knowing a little bit about a lot of topics, as opposed to specialist knowledge which is knowing a lot about one specific topic. Knowing the second-highest grossing movie is general knowledge; knowing who was that movie's third assistant director would be specialised knowledge.
