Eight-year-old YouTuber Spencer Whittenham, from Hatton who is known for his love of retro games on his Spencer Arcade channel, made a stop at the Lighthouse Shop in Hatton, this week, to donate a vintage Nintendo GameCube, in the hope that it will help turn gaming nostalgia into real-world support for the Valley CiDS charity.
The special donation took place at the Station Road charity shop to hand over the lovingly preserved GameCube bundle featuring classic titles, original save files, and everything needed to dive straight in.
Originally bought for over £500, the bundle is expected to attract attention from retro gaming fans from across the UK.
“This console is something I’ve really loved having but I thought it was time to pass it on for others to enjoy,” Spencer said during the visit.
“Giving to charity feels good and I think more kids should do the same because it is nice thing to do and you know you’re helping others at the same time.”
The console, now over two decades old, still works beautifully with just a slightly fussy eject button that needs a gentle touch, as Spencer explained to the team on the day.
Lucie Stevenson Assistant Shop Manager commented: “We were absolutely thrilled when we got the call to say that the GameCube will be coming into our hands. A donation of this nature really does help to boost our funds, and we can’t wait for it to go on sale in a few weeks’ time on our eBay shop Lighthouse Online, where we hope to get the best possible price for this fantastic item.
“Thanks to Spencer and his team, the amount raised from this will go towards providing the support our work provides for children, young people and families in local communities across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.”
